I'll give these two suggestions a go and get back to you tonight, it'll be another 11-12 hours before I get home. I just got depressed writing that last sentence lol.

Disk read only?
Try:
First, set a root password. sudo passwd
Then find your drive: df -Th (note down the /dev/??? of your drive)
Then remount it: sudo mount -o remount,rw /dev/??? (replace the Huh with your drive)
Hope this helped!

I did not configure that properly. I've also moved off of deepbit and to eligius. It sucks that the payouts occur when you reach .67, but I've seen enough threads to know why deepbit is a waste of time.

I have a billion things to do this weekend, I probably won't get to try this until monday night. So, I should add to pool.conf "-u http://:[email protected]:8337" Where is my bitcoin wallet?

Pretty sure I should be able to handle that.

I add to the pool doc  "http://[email protected]:[email protected]:8332" literally pasted from deepbit. I replace login with my email address, and my deepbit password. The same info for the website, and for gui miner.

You might be missing your miner rig tail name in your pools.conf login info ie: "http://[email protected]_MINERTAILNAME:[email protected]:8332" ?

I'm not sure about disk read only errors, although I've seen them appear sometimes while restarting the mining processes after pool or bamt.conf modification mentioning something in the lines that bamt.conf or pools.conf cannot be copied to the live portion of the BAMT filesystem.
Jump over to BAMT thread and ask away, I'm sure someone who knows more than I do will give you exact answer to that question.

Your next BAMT install can take 2 steps to get it working. Modify bamt.conf and pools.conf and restart mining. It works exactly that way for me.

I'm going to google those. I appreciate the tip.

If this takes as much time as you say, are there any ELI5 type directions I can take to link a single deepbit worker via BAMT?

EDIT: Did google those. "games (including DOOM)" I LOL'd.

I'm...a nerd.

I WANT to be able to do this. I want to understand why I can't. I also kind of want to get absorbed in something techie. A small mining operation would give me an excuse to spend the hours and energy delving into something I find fascinating, for no other reason than "beacuse I can".

I appreciate your suggestion to stick with what works for me, because I'm used to it.

Bitcoin mining for me is a hobby, and a way to broaden my IT horizons. I'm doing this to have a reason to get even more into IT, specifically the hardware tweaking and networking side of things you don't get to see as a Windows tech support guy.

I'm here to learn and would get a sense of satisfaction from getting a headless BAMT rig online that few would understand.

I like to think I have computer skills. I'm pretty confident in my abilities to solve a problem on a PC, I do it for a living. I have no linux experience other than putting ubuntu on laptops for kicks. I'm a desktop support tech at a large enterprise IT operation. Significant windows experience, basic networking skills, zero programming skills.

I'm losing sleep over the fact that I can't get BAMT working. I can use GUI Miner on win 7 just fine.

I have a Radeon HD6850 and a HD4850, I've got the HD6850 overclocked to 850MHz and hashing at about 220MH/s. The 4850 can get up to 70 MH/s, but gets too hot. (100+). It's 3 years old and passively cooled...going to stick it in my friend's desktop so he can play SWTOR at a reasonable framerate.

BAMT looks to boot just fine from my USB. I edit the config, changing disabled from 1 to 0.

I add to the pool doc  "http://[email protected]:[email protected]:8332" literally pasted from deepbit. I replace login with my email address, and my deepbit password. The same info for the website, and for gui miner.

I wish I wrote down or screenshot the error I get when I try to start mining. Something about Disk being read only. I'll replicate when I get home and post back. Any idea why my BAMT experience is not simply "Edit 2 configs and press GO" as some people insist it should be?
