Try to mount your hard drive to another pc then use data recovery app. It might help you to recover your lost files bit I will not guarantee that the recovered files are not corrupted because I use an app before but some of my recovered files are corrupted.

that folder is gone, does really no one know a solution to this?

if the space on the hard drive that once used to be the space for your ETH wallet has been over written by your new files, it is not possible to recover it , otherwise you can try to check data restoration services in your country

Depends on what method you used to install. Did you install from disc? Did you upgrade using the Media Creation tool?
If you did an 'upgrade' there should be a Windows.old folder in C: drive.

If you told it to format the drive and write over the old installation it may not be possible to recover the wallet.

Basically I've had a few ethereum coins on my laptop, I upgraded windows 10 to its newer version. I can't remember if I had windows 8 or 10 before but regardless I upgraded it and I totally forgot to backup my ethereum wallet that I had safed on the previous version. It doesnt let me go back to previous build as its been a few months so it doesnt display that option. Also windows.old folder is gone. Does anybody know how I could get it back?

I think it is totally gone...
that's why I never used wallet on my pc or laptop because of these issues.
the computer will die or got worm.

I dont use win10, but should he not need to reset his HD before installing win10 if he had win8 before?  Is not just updating something is install fresh copy of operation system.

You should store your ETH private keys before you were upgrading. Let me check how they look  know are 3 files.  they are in keystore folder.  and looks something like "UTC--2016-02-14T23-23-00.7987987986767960Z...."

You should get new ETH wallet on new operation system and then just patched this keystore folder into your ETH files and there would be your wallet.

I guess you will know for next time. But in generally you should always have copy of keys saved on some other device. What if your computer out of any reason dies. So will your ETH then.  Have copy of your keystore on an usb or, ..

This is a complete shot in the dark. There is a program called "shadow explorer".
In a nutshell, it shows the files on your computer from previous dates. Had they been deleted or corrupt they can be restored to its previous condition.

I've used it to restore a corrupted .dat from an alt.

As for how far back it goes or whether or not it will contain files from before the upgrade is beyond me.

No guarantees but its worth a go. Hope you get your coins back..

Just writing some code
I don't think upgarding Windows versions will delete any application data or data in your user folder, so the wallet file should still be wherever it was previously.

If you can't find the wallet file or you don't have a backup of it, then your coins are lost.
