Why not do it with a decent coin, that wasn't released as a joke?

Because Dogecoin has the potential to appeal to the non-tech masses. I'll use Aristotle's framework on how to be successful in persuasion.

Dogecoin possesses the emotional appeal that every other Crypto lacks.  All other Cryptos have the logical use (Logos) and the proof that they are secure to use (Ethos). What they all lack is the Pathos (emotions of the audience). Dogecoin has the ability to be persuasive to a broader audience where every other coin has failed. It possesses all 3 elements necessary to be successful in persuading someone to use it. The "funny" (or as you said joke) part of Dogecoin is just another factor to lend to it's appeal.

Let's look at it from another perspective ---- Real Wrestling versus WWF Wrestling (now WWE Wrestling - fake on TV). Which one of these draws a larger audience? WWE Wrestling of course.  We all know (well most of us) that it's fictitious, so why then does WWE Wrestling draw millions of viewers from around the world, as opposed to real wrestling that's just plain boring? Because WWE (fake wrestling) with all it's drama has the emotional appeal that the audience demands.

Every other Crypto is like real wrestling - gets the job done but is basic and boring. Dogecoin also gets the job done, but brings a flare to the technology that a broader audience can embrace through it's emotional appeal.

With Dogecoin, there is a story to tell. Excluding Bitcoin (the father of all Crypto) what coin has a story to tell the audience that is emotionally appealing (make you laugh, cry, etc.) I love Litecoin and have mined it since April, but what story can it tell an audience about itself other than the technological aspects of its use?

For Crypto to succeed, we need to broaden our efforts to attract a larger audience. Dogecoin is just the first coin to use an emotional appeal to attract a larger audience.

There will be many other coins to follow that will begin to utilize all 3 of the elements necessary to motivate non-tech people to embrace them. But for now, there is only one Crypto than can do that -- Dogecoin.

I believe that Dogecoin can bring greater awareness of Crypto currency to a large audience and as such should be promoted on New Year's Eve, wherever you may find yourself.

If I see your Dogecoin address, I will send you Dogecoins.

2014 - Year of the Doge.

I do see your point... nicely put...

Maybe i am being too quick to brush it off, i'd still like to see a more serious coin find a way to engage the masses though.

I need help in making this idea viral on Reddit or on any other forum. I'm not a Reddit person, but will try to get into it these next few days.

Here's the idea. Let's get Reddit users and anyone else who will be in Times Square for New Year's Eve or at any other large publicly viewed (TV) venue for New Year's Eve to hold up sign's with the Dogecoin logo and their Dogecoin address asking to have Doges sent to them.

I know that if I saw someone's address on TV while watching the festivities in Times Square, I'd send them Doges.

Think about this folks, this would be a HUGE (and free) advertisement for Dogecoin throughout the world.

Wow wow much much dogey originality (am I doing this right?)

Go join in if you havent already.

Thank MysticDoge. I haven't heard of Thunderclap, I will look it up now.

But any help (re-posting, blog, etc.) that you could provide regardless of where you live would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to attempt to reach out to the founders of Dogecoin to ask for their help. If we could get a reputable charity to accept Dogecoin and post their Dogecoin address on their website then folks could make Dogecoin and that specific Dogecoin address viral on New Year's Eve. The donations would come in and highlight the benefits of Crypto and how it can be a force for GREAT things through communal actions.

Such great marketing spindoctor at work here Wink

How about this:

"Doge, the new populair cryptocurrency that started as a joke, now is helping out the poor and unlucky of this planet, worldwide. This digital currency, based on a meme about a confession dog, went viral in no time. The community behind doge is the next generation of young adults. It is the generation that will grow old with cryptocurrencies. It's the generation that dares to dream again. To help out eachother and willing to take up on the real challenges on our planet, trying to make it a better place for all.

While no one saw any potential after the first hype, doge is now here to stay. Raising a total of 2,4 million us dollars in doge for the [charity of your choice] on new years eve. Now the question is what [charity] is going to do with all the doge they received. The value of doge went up last week with another staggering 470%, making it the fasted growing cryptocurrency in this (short) digital money history. The 2,4 million could be worth billions. Who will say. I rest my case with: doge to the moon. WoW."

That was a pleasure to read. I agree, it did something that other coins had not yet done and it did it at an amazing rate.

I would love to see doge around the world. Would be good to post up the pictures on a thread somewhere Smiley
