I know that Neo is clone of etherium. So than yes, you need just some Neo to send any amount of coins.
Just same you need to do when you are using Etherium.

As far as I know, right now no one is using GAS.  If I understood it right, the new coins using NEO platform will be the ones using GAS.  Whether they require the GAS for each transaction or they pay for the GAS usage is unknown.

Upon some further research this seems correct. It would appear no fees would have to be paid between NEO wallet transactions. (Not talking about withdrawing money from exchanges.)

Interesting. Smiley Do you by any chance know if you can send 1/2 gas coin into a Neo wallet and what the gas cost would be on a $300 NEO transaction?
that is impossible. The current NEO will take some time to consolidate, and will depend very much on the government

Ok. To confirm. There's no fee when sending NEO coins between wallets? Much appreciated. Smiley

I don't know between personal wallets but I know all exchanges charge a fee when transferring.  Careful with it too like on Bittrex, they charge you .1 NEO I believe.  But you also cannot send a fraction so best way is withdraw xx.1 coin.  You will receive the xx and the 0.1 is the fee.

EXAMPLES.
send 5.1, you receive 5 coins
send 5.5, you receive 5 coins
send 5.9, you receive 5 coins
send 6.0, you receive 5 coins
send 6.09, you receive 5 coins
send 6.1, you receive 6 coins

I have just created a NEO wallet (NEO GUI from neo.org) and want to send someone NEO coins.

Do I need to buy NEO coins and a gas coin?

The wallet is brand new and there's no NEO in there (and won't stay there for more than a couple of hours).

So do I need to buy a gas coin to make the NEO transaction work?

I'm very grateful for any help. Smiley
Just buy a neo and that will generate you the more gas for your neo shares. i mean the neo just like a shares that you will get a dividend such as the gas token caused by your shares. That was so simple as far as i know.
Neo already worked without gas token
