This is a nice topic for presenting problem about wallet recovery. This  topic is not only suitable for newbie but also for all of us.


I would like to add one more point on this subject. And that is "presenting the problem in which board." If the problem is in a Bitcoin wallet, one can seek help in Beginners & Help board. And if it is MEW or other wallet then one can present his/her problem in Service Discussion (Altcoins) board.

Reason for adding my point

Having difficulty logging into my ETH wallet through MEW.

I hope that most newbies are surfing on this section so that they will be aware of what to do. There were encounters that I've read and it didn't just happened to an individual but quite few number of them. So, the guy innocently gave his private key inline of asking help with his wallet concern.

Little did he know that it's just an imposter trying to be the support of that wallet. The scammer asks for important details and making it look like legit, asking what exactly happened and for the recovery phrases which the guy didn't know is already a red flag. Making him belief that the scammer will actually fix his concern. Probably everybody heard of this kind of incident.

OP, sharing wallet address can't expose one private keys or recovery seed, there is no problem here at all, others can only know how much an address holds but not how to access them

Usually there is only oje private key for each wallet address. There is none additional if you forgot your pk to sav to unlock your wallet.

I just remember before when I am using mew, and you have choices to choose from, private key, mnemonic phrase, and many choices to unlock your wallet address. But since MEW upgraded their platform, they dont encourage anymore using private key but a mnemonic phrase instead. They say its more vulnerable to hacking and breached. So if you lost your Pk or forgot where you save it. Then say goodbye to your wallet address cause there is no way to recover that. Blockchain is designed to be like that for a reason. So they always have warning to save your key when you create or have a back up.

Google & old threads are your friend. Some of those issues are commons and have been asked multiple times on that board. Other than that, a simple Google search would usually lead you to some key pages that could answer some of your questions.

Can I ask some of the most common issues or problems a newbie might face when they lost access in their bitcoin wallet?

I am visiting Developmental and Technical Discussion frequently nowadays and it seems that the most common problems are as follows;

• Losing the wallet.dat file
• Derivation path
• Losing at least one character in a "private key"

Is there a list of readings where anyone can read about finding some solutions of these issues?

I can't blame some of them, specially the ones who are tense because of what happened or desperate for a solution.

But it's good that you've added the "not required" list.

I am full time on a forum, read, answer, playing games and try something new, because I am staying at home nothing to do. so every day sometime finding newbie asking problem about the wallet, address and of the kind. then senior answered with the unresolved problems because data incomplete served.

So what is needed to present your problem?.

1. Address

This is a very important thing to know your address is good, still has balance inside. senior will be checking your address using explorer: blockchain.com, blockchair.com, blockchyper.com, etc then continue to analyse your problem.

2. Wallet

you should present detail what wallet has been downloaded,
- name of wallet
- version
- where from downloaded
- what kind of wallet
etc

3. Gadget/operating system

a newbie should tell and post what kind of gadget and operating system they used. example: Samsung s10 android version 10, Asus notebook w23 windows 10 64 bit home version, Toshiba pc windows 7 32 bit ultimate or Laptop dell 4x series Linux ubuntu 64 bit... bla, bla,bla..

4. 5w + 1h

Explain the problem accurately with What, Where, When ,Who ,Why and How.


So what is not required to present your problem?.

1. The private key, Mnemonic phrase, and password.

It's bullshit or possibly scamming if someone asking your private key. No, don't do that!. The problem will be solved without giving your sensitive data.

However if you want more privacy, don't want to be known by others, don't tell your address, maybe presenting type (legacy, segwit, native) only.
