Second, it is not tough to earn merits.
It is when you can't write for shit.  If I tried to make posts in the French local board (of which I studied in high school but know very little), there's no way in hell I'd earn any merits, because I have a pretty limited French-language vocabulary and grasp of the grammar of that language.  I have no doubt that my posts would come off as very simple, and the native French-speakers would know this and might even resent me even trying to do so--especially if it was obvious that getting paid for it.

I belong to a non-bitcoin related forum that draws people from all over the world--it's all about fountain pens.  It's in English, but there are people who post there because they're passionate about the subject matter.  I would never criticize someone there, because I know what their motivation is.  Here it's a different story, especially when the local boards exist.

The standards are different on bitcointalk, and I think that's because so many members are getting paid for their posts.  On the fountain pen site, there are TONS of "great looking pen!" posts and those are completely accepted.  Here, members are cranking out posts just like that because they're being incentivized to do so, and probably not because they're so passionate about bitcoin.  Ultimately that creates a ton of noise and drowns out the signal.

All of this is probably obvious, but I'm hoping some newbies read the above.  The problem had gotten so bad by about 2015 that Danny Hamilton created an ignore list that included every member who was wearing advertising in their signature.  That's an extreme solution, but it's obvious why he created that.

I believe that there is a big reason why the moderator of this forum had made this new rule about the merit system and the demotion of the jr,member back to newbie. Based on Theymos explaination that there were already many spams coming in and so as the many shit posting in the forum which had mainly discourage some of the good newbies that really deserve to be part of this crypto community. Moreover, people should understand and follow the rules in the forum and continue to do good and informative post that could also benefit the readers. Merits will come along the way and I believe it will come soon and stay positive.

First, a friendly advice anybody contacting you to be able to sale merits - Dont fall for such scams. The current dearth in merit will cause an internal merit marketplace (pseudo) to emerge to scam newbies. Moreover since newbies will be in general more gullible than others. Also report such people here in Meta so some action can be taken.

Second, it is not tough to earn merits. If the newbies would actually stop posting in Meta whining about merit in every thread and post meaningful content in the other sections of the forum they may get some merits. After all we now have more merit sources as well. Wink

Seeing and knowing the changes in rankings in this forum, I was a little sad and concerned after the reward regulation and now reducing the rank of junior members to newbie.
but it all has a purpose that has a strong reason to reduce posting without weight and start entering a good and professional future besides making this forum have more members with broad character..

I'm just thinking of all the poor multi account bounty farmers that now have dozens of useless accounts and the uncertainty that surrounds this move... will Theymos do it again and raise the merit requirement even higher ?

I'll tell you an easier, much easier way to get merits. Report people who are trading merits and you'll be showered with merits worth your own weight!! Try it, you won't be disappointed!

If you see someone selling their Smerit, you'd better to report it and by that action you can easily earn merit. Yes, its hard to earn merit now but we must stick to the rules and don't take any steps for that so you will not be punished later on. If you are serious here in this forum, you will do your best to learn more and you will not focus much on earning merit. It will come to you anyway, just keep on working.

I think it is much easier to get a Merit by honest posting than for buying it and possibly get scammed. After all, a Merit buy is not allowed and if someone remarks it, your account will be tagged red. I doubt many people will risk this, or better let's say I hope this.

Is it so difficulty to get even one single Merit right now? I think not. For sure, you have to post something useful, help people or something else and your post has to be seen and awarded by a person which has sMerits, but finally it is only one Merit.

Why pay for something you can earn easily?  Wink

I think this best way for player who really need their account for real

This did not require it's own thread you could have posted this in the official announcement thread. Lock the topic.

This kind of posting behaviour is why you will not receive merit. The "problems" you highlited, already exist there's no stopping that. The good from this will far outweigh the bad.

Do you feel sad? I see nothing to be sad. When you give to the community, you will receive rewards on your own. that is the law of life
