@_Gnasher_ Sure there is some interesting news about alternative cryptocurrencies anyways there's still a possibility to build a mining rig and that's the best way.

Thanks, guys. So when you say to start with GPUs, do you mean build something like:

Is it difficult for someone who knows VERY little about hardware to build and start mining alt-currencies?

I recommend to buy Scrypt-Asic  Smiley

When will they be available? and IMO they'll be still very expensive.. (I read 0.9$/Khash)

I just started mining recently and this is what I did.

If you want to mine the scrypt coins like LTC, FRK, FTC and most of the other "altcoins" then you compare the price of the hardware with the hashrate it produces. I personally ended up with 270x because they get alot of bang for the buck right now.

Here is a hardware comparison guide.

Then you have to determine what sort of mother board you want, ram and hd arnt really important in mining. Basicly the gpu's are the most important thing. And a power supply that can run them all.

Hi,

First post here... Tried to post in the hardware section, but don't think I'm allowed yet!

I'm looking to build/buy a rig to mine alt-currencies before they are put on exchange/still new (i.e. low price/difficulty). The problem is that I know NOTHING about building computers, etc...

I've read: http://www.cryptobadger.com/2013/04/build-a-litecoin-mining-rig-hardware/

Would this be the best thing to follow? And then just look up detailed instructions on how to build/run it? Basically, I want to get play a part in all of the new coins (not Bitcoin), but not sure the best way...
