Can I ask how to you start/restart the program?
Depends on which version you downloaded.

If you downloaded the Windows Installer version, you will have installed it like any other program. Default locations is to Program Files. You can find the executable in there, or it should have created desktop or start menu short cuts for you.

If you downloaded the Standalone Executable, then you will find the .exe file wherever you downloaded it to, most likely your browser's default download folder. Given that you can't find it in your program list, this is the most likely scenario.

Although it has to be said that I'm not sure how to reopen the electrum wallet if I close it down.

There is no icon on my desktop to double click. Or if I look through the programs list (such as it is) I can't see anything named electrum.

Can I ask how to you start/restart the program?

When I search for the transaction I get the following:

https://btc-explorer.com/address/bc1qcvyflvy2tzkpjvjgh0sfg5p82hdep6kej6hhhw

I suspect that the problem with be with Electrum wallet itself. Some reason why the light is red and it is not connecting.
~snip~

Have you tried to check the network server if it set to automatic or not. You can find the network server by going to Tools>Network>Server then look for "Select Server Automatically" if its disabled you can try to enable it then reopen the Electrum wallet again but if it's enabled then disable it and choose server manually you can choose any server under "server peers" make sure to right-click the server and choose "use as server" Then check it again.

When I look at the netword server I can see that the "select server automaticaly" box is already checked.

If I uncheck the box and pick a random default server. Right click "use as server". Then click the close button. Nothing much seems to happen. Should I close the electrum client and re-open to start again?

Did you install VirtualBox? Or any similar software? There are some users have experienced problems due to this application (Network adapters.)

;snip;
Try all of these solutions and if it doesn't work you can try the following:

 - Windows key+X >> Device Manager >> Network adapters >> Disalbe all adapters except those you use to connect to the Internet.

This user[1] has the same problem so reading this post may give you more details ----> 3.3.8 not connecting since days?.

Even if Electron is 'not connected' you still have your address,

Be sure to have latest version of Electron wallet (currently 3.3.8 ),

If you are still not connected then maybe your firewall or antivirus is blocking Electron.

Electron (Electron Cash) is forked wallet for Bitcoin Cash, you should not mix it with Electrum BTC. Sending BTC to Electron Cash is a process that can be reversed relatively easily, but for some newbie it's just unnecessary work which should definitely be avoided.

Click on the red orb on the bottom right, click on "Server", and try various different servers. If no server is working, then it's an issue with you.

It is important to emphasize that in case of manual server selection option “select server automatically” need to be unchecked, and that servers from list need to be selected by right click on them and using option "use as server". After that step it is important to wait some time, depending on internet speed - Electrum need to download blockchain header file which is some 40+ MB in size.

Given the transaction link you have posted, your funds are safe, even if you can't see them yet.

Here are some steps you should follow:
Ensure you have the most up to date client (3.3.8) from Electrum.org. Older versions do not connect due to security risks.
Click on the red orb on the bottom right, click on "Server", and try various different servers. If no server is working, then it's an issue with you.
Click on "Proxy" and make sure you are not set to use a proxy.
If that doesn't work, then you have something blocking Electrum's connection. Make sure it is whitelisted in your antivirus and firewall. You say this is a new computer running Windows 10. Windows Defender gives lots of false positives for Electrum, and so may have blocked or sandboxed it. Try whitelisting it or temporarily disabling your antivirus/firewall to see if it will then connect.
If still not, there are some reports of various ISPs blocking Electrum servers. This block can be bypassed by using Tor or a VPN.

No worries.
Important thing is that you have private key or seed, and you can import then in some other wallet.

You can also work around this issue by using Electrum mobile version (with your imported private keys)
NEVER SHARE your private key or seed with anyone, and keep backup in safe place.

You still have a balance on this address so it should show on your Electrum wallet.

Let see if it will work just update here if it fixes your issue.

You can check your BTC address on some explorer:
https://btc-explorer.com/
https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/

Be aware that it needs time to receive Bitcoin depending on network condition.
If mempool id full you will have to wait more to receive BTC.

Even if Electron is 'not connected' you still have your address,
and I hope you wrote and made backup of private key - very important.

That is all you need.

Be sure to have latest version of Electron wallet (currently 3.3.8 ),
and if green light is in lower right angle it means connected.

Yes I wrote down the seed key and password on to paper. I've just bought a new PC with Windows 10 so this setup is still fairly new. This is the first time seeing this and so far not impressed.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

When I look at the electrum client in the bottom left of the screen it says "not connected". So does this have something to do with the problem. If the wallet is not connected then maybe it can't receive any payments.

I'd appreciate any help that people may be able to offer with this problem.
Yes. Obviously if your wallet is offline, it can't receive new data/transaction information.

Either it has something to do with the wifi you're on, or your software/PC. Check if your wifi blocks any connections, if so, you should either use a VPN or a different internet source.

If you think it's your PC, take a look at your firewall/AV. If that's not it either, it's probably an issue with your wallet software, in which case it could be many things.

Take a look at a couple other threads and see if it might solve your issue:

Hi everybody

I just downloaded the Electrum wallet. Went through the simple wallet setup process.

I could then see the BTC receive address. So I then went to another site and bought some Btc using this address (jumping in with both feet). Now the vendor says that the Btc have been sent (as per my instruction)
but they don't show up in this newly created wallet.

When I look at the electrum client in the bottom left of the screen it says "not connected". So does this have something to do with the problem. If the wallet is not connected then maybe it can't receive any payments.

I'd appreciate any help that people may be able to offer with this problem.

Best Regards
