EDIT:
Is it possible to just split this patrol page for Bitcoin board and for everything 'Other'?

See my post here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.45916146

It's not quite what you're asking, but you can see all recent posts from the Bitcoin board only.

There are no strategies, just open it and report everything that is wrong.
...
If the posts could have a kind of marker that can show that the post was already reported or not (irrespectively of the report if it was good or not), it would speed up this whole process
Also, if you are reading thru a topic and you see something that worth reporting, you could also check if someone has already reported it or not...
This way, the reporters would not work parallel, so reporting could become more effective

If there's an interest, I can do that. I'm not sure about copyright though.

Also, it's just raw data. Very easy to search through, but harder to read and you'll need to build your own tools.

However, I switched to downloading recent now, which includes posts from higher ranks too. I now remove the excess data, and the resulting files take only 10 MB per day (compressed).

Would you consider hosting that data somewhere for people to download? As you say, making it more easily searchable than just 10 posts a page would really speed up finding and reporting spammers.

Someone says it is recent posts by newbies, does that mean it will tell you when a newbie posts a comment on your thead?

It's a list of the posts made by Newbies and Brand New members.  That's it, nothing fancy.  But it's a great way of finding shitposts, if that's your thing.

I barely look at it, it's terrible quality to read. I used to download it every 5 minutes, which made it very easy to search for certain keywords and create long lists of abusers.
However, I switched to downloading recent now, which includes posts from higher ranks too. I now remove the excess data, and the resulting files take only 10 MB per day (compressed). For now, I'm collecting data. I still have to improve searching for keywords.

A suggestion would be to explain what the patrol link actually does as it is not easy to guess what this is: "Show patrol link:
Shows a link to the patrol page under "watchlist""

Someone says it is recent posts by newbies, does that mean it will tell you when a newbie posts a comment on your thead?

The patrol option is great.
I suggest to be auto enabled when you reach a Member rank. That will make more people reporting for sure.
I have it enabled since the first time I heard about it, that will be when I was Jr.
There are no strategies, just open it and report everything that is wrong.
I wish it had an option to filter the local boards but...

Just ignore the bounty crap (except when it's outside of the Bounties board) and report anything that stands out - "good project" nonsense, wall-quoting shitposts, wrong language, etc. There is a convenient "report to moderator" link right there in the list so it's actually quite quick. Open that link in a new tab, report, close the tab, next.

How many of you fine folks have enabled the "Patrol" link in your profile?
How do you use it?
What do you look for?
I imagine some of you (LoyceV?) have some script you use to scan the posts for plagiarism and spam.

In the last couple of days I've spent a little time going through the newbie posts and have reported a couple.  But it's slow going that way, and my eyes start burning after so many quoted bounty replies.

Any suggestions for making it more useful would be appreciated.
