It's a good filter for people who want to instantly get on the forums and start posting.  Have you spent any time looking in the newbie section?  If they were allowed to post anywhere right off the start there would be so much clutter.

The big part of the restriction is the 4 hours online time, that's what helps the most IMO.

So please just retain the 4 hours requirement, not the post requirement. You may not read Chinese but I can tell you the sub-forum is really awful, full of trolling and begging newbies. They just stop once 10 posts are made.

We probably do really only need the time limit, the posting requirement does lead to spam.

The Chinese forum becomes really bad now. Newbies revitalized all 2011 posts just to make 10 posts. Please stop it, or I have to ignore the whole Chinese forum..

Yeah, I concur this.  Undecided I'm deleting and sometimes banning those posts though, especially if they're reported to me.

You can only post in the Newbie and Local sub-forums till you have 5 posts and at least 4 hours on the forum.  The other two restrictions are you need 1 post to be able to send a PM and 10 posts to put a link in your sig.

Since this restriction does not apply to Chinese sub-forum, there are so many stupid and meaningless newbie messages there, just to circumvent this restriction.

At the end of the day, how this restriction useful if people could just make 10 stupid posts in 10 minutes? It just increases the server's burden for absolutely nothing.
