CureCoin? Never even heard of it.
Unfortunately, there isn't all that much support for PPC anymore. It might have a shot, though. I like some of its characteristics. Primecoin may provide some substantive mathematical/scientific value, but we don't actually know that it will.

Very informative post and really appreciate your suggestion in which you showed the alternative of bitcoins in case of failure or shortcomings of bitcoins. Too much much of anything falls in short at last.
While it is a nice cause, I dont think they will win over the market because of their quest to help science. A coin, to compete with BTC, needs to have features that are needed, but can not be supplied by BTC. For example, a posible scenario would be the US shutting down all use of BTC, and a similar coin, but with wallet ID varification, taking over. Im not arguin for it, but just saying that if there is any reason BTC fails, a new coin with features that cover that problema will gain the market. So instead, look for the shortcomings of BTC, find current Altcoins that fix them, and maybe invest there.
For making my first post I figured I would talk briefly about the potential competitors to BTC. Yes this topic has and will be beaten to a pulp, but for the sake of my first post we will deal with it. I believe Peercoin, Primecoin, and soon Curecoin will be great competitors. Peercoin POS system and quick confirmations will make this coin not so much a competitor but an alternative small every day purchases that require quick confirmation. Primecoin and Curecoin have a great system to help the sciences in using our processing power to solve problems. I am not sure how viable they will be several years from now, but for the near future this seems like it will be great. That is all for now.
