Learning is the activation energy of newbie to comprehend the rudiments of the community, and other primary function's that will elevate them, because from my perspective, i understand that newbies that wants to grab the concept of the system have to make a proper research and proper observation in this community, and without that, they can't achieve he or her objectives here without adhere to the basic function of the community via leaning, so from what i observed so far some newbies don't really know while this platform is been created but they are willing to join because of information obtained from their siblings via bitcointalk community.

And I think also those -Newbies- that want to learn everything all at once, maybe to grow themselves fast enough to join a campaign are also spammers, also those that don't want to learn any further start to spam or repeat, themselves, your Goals coming here was very similar to mine, it was just bitcoin I was excited about Bitcoin when I heard about it first and when I came here I knew this was it, -this was home- I think Newbies are meant to have reasons that drove them or excited them to come here, it was learning bitcoin for me, I can be alt-coin for someone else, it can be wallet.
Spamming is a low mind sport, I think -Newbies- should find a reason/purpose if they don't have and be bonded to learning.

The main problem is most newbies are introduced to the forum wrongly which has been leading to spam. We know about Bounty and most newbie joining intent is earning from here. Doesn't matter for them either they are spamming or contributing to the forum. Sadly they aren't interested in reading forum posts, just their post history describe everything. Not only newbies, but we all who aren't much experienced should also make replies after doing little research especially about sensitive issues. So we can avoid spam and would share real data with the community. I have been saying always read more than your write.

I don't think that learning about Bitcoin, and posting spam is directly linked. Someone might be one of the most knowledgeable people inside Bitcoin, but they can still post replies which have little substance. I think this is demonstrated fairly routine here. What causes spam isn't necessarily a lack of knowledge, its the lack of effort i.e if you don't put the time investment, and thought that is required to make a good post, then its likely to be spam.

Plus, I think advertising that knowledge == good quality, is completely inaccurate, and is actually quite hostile to new users. New users who aren't particularly knowledgeable about Bitcoin are more than capable of asking questions, and posting good quality posts. This is also actually demonstrated here on this forum, somewhat regular. Also, I think a lot of users get it mixed up, repetitive questions do happen, and sometimes a user just needs to wrap their head around a concept in their own words, which despite being a question which is regularly asked here, doesn't mean its spam. I'd like to see us being a little less hostile to new users asking questions, even if they are easy to find. I mean, they are new users, and aren't always up to date on using forum software. They might be using the search function, but not good enough to find what they are looking for, and that's okay if it isn't clearly a lack of effort.

No need for drastic change in my opinion and nope, I don't think they're losing the battle.
It is just that not all people use the "Report to moderator" button.
It is enough to eliminate spam only if many utilize it.

I have noticed the newbies that do not want to learn are the ones spamming, plagiarizing and copying/pasting, while they should not do something like that even without reading the forum rules, it will be good for newbies to take it easy, do not rush but be patient, you will get it and move up just like ranked members.
It is sad actually. You can see plenty of newbie accounts just continuing to make alt accounts to abuse bounties.
This forum is being seen as an earning platform by some as I mentioned in some threads from Meta.
Though I know theymos would never do the newbie jail from what I read, I just hope that some other people would change their views in this forum.

Yeah. The bounty program is a nice addition to the forum, and even theymos said that he didn't mind that forum members can earn small amounts of crypto, but it is a shame when some members abuse it.

In my opinion, this forum needs drastic changes in order to reduce spam. Although the merit system was introduced and the moderators were performing their duties to the fullest, but I have the feeling they are losing the battle.

I will be very glad if someone can help me and educate me more about this forum.. I’m not here because I only want the money but I want to learn how it’s works and also share my knowledge with others who are willing to listen just like I did..

I even stumble upon some newbies not reading stickies and asking how to earn Bitcoin.

Eloncoin.org - Mars, here we come!
Most of the newcomers come here and start posting spam like them. They don't notice that there is a place called search button on the site for them. By searching here they get a lot of things. The big thing is that there are 33 rules that nobody wants to read. In my opinion, the forum is an information center. The more you read here, the more you will learn. The more you learn, the more it will help you to move forward.
Well, learning here is the key for you to have a high chance that someday you will earn once you will become establish member. If you are a newcomer at thinking profit in the first place, there is nothing that will happen to you. But if you are here just want to learn knowledge about blockchain, this has an advantage for you in the future and that time you will able to participate campaign that paying bitcoin but don't expect too much and you can rely on this, it is better to have your own job that this. Because forum ios a place where you can learn and then later earn small amount once you are established, member.

Newbies may not know that learning will help them not to spam, copy and paste nor plagiarize.
Of course, adequate knowledge on any subject or discussion will enable a person to communicate effortlessly, with no need to plagiarize or steal what others have said previously about that subject, this is applicable not just on the forum, but even in other practical events in real life, for example, with sufficient knowledge, a student would be able to write exams without any external help or plagiarism, thus when a user learns all there is to about Bitcoin and how it operates, communicating on Bitcointalk becomes effortless, and by extension it no longer becomes possible for that user to spam or plagiarise.

Having said that, reading/studying what others have said isn't bad cause that's how people build their knowledge, but just as is done when one is writing a project, you carry out research and you bring in what others have said on that particular topic as you write, but without forgetting to acknowledge them in your "works cited", users should also never forget to add links to the source of their knowledge when their posts isn't originally theirs, and also when parts of their posts was gotten from a different source.

If your sole purpose why you're here is just because of earning not the learning, the possible outcome is spam, copy/pasting and it could be cheating.  Just enjoy reading and make the forum your habit of reading, you will not regret it.
Yes, that is the main point, this forum primary reason of existence is about bitcoin, also altcoins and some other boards exist where people can also post of what they know about such boards. We should not spam but be part of the forum members that will be contributing experiences and how to make use of bitcoin in safe ways.

They are lazy members, to be honest, IMO.  Because they only want to gain profit, not the potential learning that you can get free here in the forum.  Interacting those technical stuff discussions will always have benefits for them.

As a newbie here, they should read the rules or those sticky threads on each section, so that you will know which dos and don't.  There's a heavy punishment of the copy/pasting which there's no second chance if you don't know such rules.

If your sole purpose why you're here is just because of earning not the learning, the possible outcome is spam, copy/pasting and it could be cheating.  Just enjoy reading and make the forum your habit of reading, you will not regret it.

Newbies may not know that learning will help them not to spam, copy and paste nor plagiarize. When I was a newbie, I loved to know about bitcoin and want to know more about it, I noticed everything I studied about bitcoin did not only helped me on this forum, it really helped me in a way I am safely keeping my bitcoin and making transactions with the lowest fee that can get transaction confirmed not long, there are many people that do not know about segwit and also how to be making use of mempool observers to track transaction fee, also about the weekends when fee can be minimal. All these are helping me to make good posts on this forum.

I have some friends that I told about this forum, that they can be able to know how beneficial bitcoin can be, that this forum will help them know about bitcoin very well that they can even with time earn some amount of bitcoin if they are contributing good posts. What do comes from them always funny to me, they do say 'can I use search engine to check what they can reply and paste it on this forum', I do tell them no, but they can use google to check for what they can reply but yet they have to also be learning about bitcoin but they can not paste another site materials here or they should include ntue link, that with that they will see this forum just like social media and enjoy what is going on here as I am seeing it now. I also tell them that what is mostly important is by following the threads on this forum that they will gain from it.

I don't believe that they don't know the rules, these people know it, maybe they are dummy accounts, which the purpose is just to make airdrops, make money from it if you look at their post they might be here a very long time, but instead of posting properly their post are just report for airdrops or free coins that are given to them in exchange for the service they have done.

Ignorance from stuffs within the forum will surely make you spam or plagiarize since you do not have much information so you will simply put things that are not related to the post or you will simply imitate what other people are posting. It would be best if you will keep on learning and exploring the forum so that you can contribute new stuffs that can also be useful for other newbies. If you will be too lazy to comprehend and analyze stuffs being posted here, you will have a hard time ranking up since you won't be given a merit since you need to post relevant stuffs to gain one.

I first heard about this forum 7 years ago and in the beginning I mostly learned from older members.
Of course, I also used some opportunities to acquire bitcoin, but then bitcoin was not as valuable as it is today, so I didn't take it seriously, it was more like a hobby in my free time.
It seems to me that in the beginning of this forum we had a lot more sincere crypto enthusiasts and today most new members are just thinking about how to earn some btc and spam forum.
This is an obvious consequence of the growing popularity of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies and there is probably no way to stop something like this.
I would suggest Newbie members to listen to good advice from the OP and make some effort to learn the rules of the forum and some crypto basics.

I can only imagine what it must have been like seven years ago on this forum. I bet you could read almost all of the new posts in one day back then.  Wink

Unfortunately, the current situation is much different - it is hard to find useful information amid the large volume of posts. How much do you miss the good old days?

As above replies mentioned, the majority  of people come here for the extra cash, and do not plan to make this a longer endevour than it should. Earning money is good, and there is no reason why the forum should not have it, but it should be balanced out with quality posting and a desire to aquire new knowlage. And I can also understand that it's hard to moderate such a big ecosystem so I am not pointing the blame there, I eould rater see more self moderation from posters.

Farewell, Leo
I think the key is to use this forum as a forum and not as a way to make money. When I firstly got into bitcointalk I had no idea about signature campaigns, I just liked keep learning more about Bitcoin. I didn't plagiarize, because besides that I never do that, I had no purpose to. I was asking questions, trying to understand Bitcoin and before I knew it, I was a full member. Then I learnt about the marketplace's subforum and the thing seemed interesting.

I believe that due to merits, the ranked up members are usually the ones that talk a lot about Bitcoin or contribute to the development section.

As I used to say; the problem is partly from the way the forum is being sold to people. Some people are convinced to join the forum by spammers and they tell them the forum is for earning not learning, and you can create multiple accounts and join several bounties to cheat the system because ranking up is difficult. They come in with that mindset and already has a biased view of the forum.

I believe the creating the forum welcome message would give newbies a succinct idea of what the forum is about which would get them thinking. Everyone has the quality to contribute positively in this forum, but are limited by their mentality.
