All joking aside guys, this has been a feature in Gmail for years now...it just wasn't in the Android version of the app until now.  When we had an LLC that mined bitcoin we were using this to handle payments on a regular basis and this was back in 2013 or 2014.

I was thinking the same thing.  Cheesy Of course your post got buried in the noise. So no new news.

Actually that WAS the news and why i posted a link to the news story.
I think what you meant was that the resulting discussion did not address that.
And really when you think about it.. that is not the big point here to take home.

In theory, this is just your Credit Card integrated with your email app. You fund your Google Wallet using your Credit Card and use it to transfer funds. Not very different from mobile wallet apps out there, just with a big brand name.

I don't agree because google will not develop any crypto based platform and once it is developed, it is going to be good compete for bitcoin, but I won't think they will not mess up with all these decentralized currencies. Maybe in future google will bring a platform to combine all wallets in the single app.

But they didn't.
Instead they went the Paypal style ledger route.. why ?
It's sort of like how a normal banks works and the various difference i think were looked at and they then deiced what was needed or wanted and for whom Google or the customer.
Get what i am driving at ?

It is not sorta.   It IS a normal bank.  It IS fiat.  It is a fiat bank: Google bank.
Paypal does the same.   Are you discovering that most payments you can do with fiat ?

Hence, my long standing question: what are you doing in crypto ?

So what is the niche where crypto has a competitive edge ?  Mmmm ?  That what will not be possible with normal banking.  That what normal banks will not want to do, or where it is too risky to do with normal banking.  Capice ?

I will bet any of you Google's ledger based coin will rapidly be adopted far larger than all altcoins combined.
They basically did a free version of Paypal guys.

I'd love to see them add the "token" to some sort of exchanges too.
most likely but will people hold Google wallet balance for investments? Not a chance.

AHHH now see i lured you all into the root of the matter.

This often repeated comment here sums it up nicely... "they are like penny stocks"

Well ?
Google's stock is on NASDAQ at around $900
So.... it *IS* a coin according to your definitions Wink

What we then have to point out and address i think is NASDAQ etc vs unregulated crypto exchanges.
That right there is an underlying burning issue at the heart of all this coin stuff.

With the notable difference being one is regulated and one is not.
So if you want to do a fair comparison you can say a Ripple token or say Maidsafe is a hell of a lot like Google's coin and their NASDAQ stock.

Hey.. it's all of you who chant that these coins are a business and scream ICO / IPO / ITO and White Paper etc for your BUSINESS.
Ripple inc vs  Alphabet inc ?

See i have been disgusted with the emergence of treating these things like "penny stocks"
Running ICO's and saying they are business's ?
And you have too.. i got threatened via PM before from a coin dev where he said that word for word.
He called his coin cloning "his business"

And then we have crypto-exchanges which are in fact business's designed to make money.

So..
If you can step back and look at all of this stuff from all sides you see a fallacy.
A desire to PRETEND a lot that an ICO is a company stock etc.
If that is true then Google's is just as legit ..if not more so !

Why would any of this matter ?
The public !
It's the general public's interest we are investing with XYZ coin.
If a similar type of service or coin system emerges that rivals Bitcoin and any Altcoins then there is a problem.

Know what i see people is the larger tech world out there seeing what has been happening here for 8 years roughly and Google's news here mentioned is a reflection and reaction.
This should speak volumes to you all !

If Google thought it was going to be beneficial or popular for CURRENCY USERS to mimic a crypto coin they would have !

But they didn't.
Instead they went the Paypal style ledger route.. why ?
It's sort of like how a normal banks works and the various difference i think were looked at and they then deiced what was needed or wanted and for whom Google or the customer.
Get what i am driving at ?

I am saying the difference here between Google's pseudo coin and their stock on NASDAQ vs the typical crypto coin *IS* in fact the message you should be hearing.
In other words it does not bode very well that Google made it's decision and it was to make it's own ledger based banking system like Ripple did.

What i'm Reeeally saying is.. Wink
Look at the crypto coins and those difference highlighted here and think about whether they are actually needed and / or wanted by the public at large.
I long ago thought this all was a great start but after an estimated 8 years we have seen no major changes or increased adoption levels just an emergence of an unregulated ponzi/pyramid scheme coin market system.
Meanwhile the Apple's and Google's etc out there carried on to address a need and desire...
 a working digital.. CURRENCY

PS:
Does the definition of digital currency demand it be traded on Poloniex ? Is that a rule ?
And what was the big goal of Bitcoin people that caused the big rise ? getting on stock exchanges ?
Well guess the fuck what Investards.. Google just beat you suckers to it  Cheesy Google coin = $900 each est.

Ripple inc. = Traded on Crypto Exchanges.
Alphabet inc. = Traded on official Stock Exchanges.

I will bet any of you Google's ledger based coin will rapidly be adopted far larger than all altcoins combined.
They basically did a free version of Paypal guys.

uh, yeah. it's gonna be adopted by people who use dollars, euros, pounds, whatever because it is dollars, euros, pounds, whatever.

wow.

So far I read Googlecoin is free paypal?

---
Spoet you're wrong -ish.  This option will be folded into crypto.

There is no free lunch, Google is planning something to make a profit off Google wallet services.

Google coin is merely an online wallet for paying some services related to Google business or Google partners and it won't be popular as like as altcoins
However it will be useful for us when we are working on google store.

I actually support freedom etc.. YOU SAY YOU DO.

I have no credit card.
I have no Bank account.

YOU DO !

I have no problem with creating an anon currency if it will work.
You seem to think the coins we have NOW will work when they are not.

Knows too much about me ?
For the fucking love of god man.. what part of law don't you get ?
The IRS and REV CAN tax guidelnes ?
The FiNCEN fines ?
The SEC Fraud Alert ?
The FBI arresting Localbitcoins users ?
Coinbase ratting out KickAssTorrents ?
Polo and Cryptsy taking your ID ?
The defunct SilkRoad ?

You see buddy i actually LIVE the bullshit rabble you pricks out there bend over backwards faking.
I left Cryptsy and soon after Polo when they added Picture ID verification etc.
I also black listed Coinbase when they got the KAT Torrents guy arrested with the US govt.
I closed my bank account numerous times because i hated them and refuse to use them.
I never have had a credit card.

For someone who bitches up a storm about "the man" keeping you down etc.
You sure go to town using their services huh ?

It's seriously fucked up when i am the one ACTUALLY doing more to defend FREEDOM in crypto than you shit talkers here.
I am practical, realistic and honest.

I do not sit here shooting my dumb fuck mouth off while hiding my bags behind my back.
I am keeping it real and working for the cause.. by ACTUALLY doing something about it.

Reminds me of the vast majority of idiot dipshit pirates out there stealing files etc.
I always tell them why the hell would you pay Netflix or Spotify etc money when they use that money to arrest us pirates ?
Are you guys retarded or what ?
So no of course i'd never use either service.. i put my money where my mouth is.
And i actually care about the victims too !
Something none of you really have any interest in talking about around here.

You see shit talking blow-hard's i don't use Netflix or Spotify not because i think i will get arrested.
No.. i use it as a sign of fucking respect for all the guys before me who are STILL rotting in a jail cell for Piracy.

..pretend all you want, but you're still not me Investards.  Cool

And Dino..
You once again rattle off the exception angle as though it breaks the rule.
YOU may be paranoid and spout off anti govt rhetoric and kill FIAT rabble.
but...
LIKE I JUST FUCKING SAID................
Earth gove 0 fucks buddy. (about crypto)

You really are a fucking broken record and are impossible to talk to.
You are a mega ultra hardcore little contrarian perpetually pushing your own agenda and warping the shit out of reality to suit you own needs.

They just want to spend their money and think it's safe.
Who are you gonna trust shady Ripple inc. guys or GOOGLE ?

My credit card directly.
Google knows already too much about me.  At least my local bank is kept in line by regulations. Who needs Google Bank ?

If you just want to spend your money and be safe, why not use your normal credit card ?  What idiot is going to use, what, bitcoin, to have to convert it first on an exchange, withdraw it, see that it doesn't get through, then finally pay the merchant, add a big fee and wait 2 days for its confirmations, and the merchant, converting it back to fiat, but having to pay a big fee to get it there ?

Oh, and in what currency is "google coin" denominated ?  Hmm ?
This is nothing else but Google's paypal.

Google has a track record of failed products

So tell me.. what is the options here ?
Google ledger based coin / Google Bank like Dino said.. or ?
Bitcoin.

People look at ALL aspects of crypto and CHOOSE Facebook coin or Microsoft coin or Payapl or even Google coin.

Why ?

How about sending money instantly for little or no fee ?
I used interac etransfer before and it did a better job that Bitcoin ever could.

Besides only USA ? Ohhh i am sure they have expansion plans LOL
And they ALREADY have more users USA only or not..

And think about it hard guys why would they want to make their currency tradeable on Poloniex etc ?
What advantage is that for THEM ?
And if you REALLY want to look at it you can already see Google coin.
it's called "Alphabet Inc Class A" on NASDAQ.
And each Google coin token is worth $868.39 usd ..and rising.

Who was it here who chanted "Penny Stocks" to me 99 zillion times ?
Difference being one is corrupt and lawless with shitcoins made by teens.. and the other is actually legit.

what they don't told you is that this coin is centralized like ripple and do not offer anything new, what giant company do not understand is that they can't simply make their coin and expect good thing from it when they are not using the blockchain technology which is about decentralization, any big company like apple google facebook will never adopt such technology because it go against their centralization rule, they would not have the power to control it

Yup.. a ledger.
And no the pubic does not care in the slightest either.
Believe it or not the world does not give a shit about crypto anarchists and bringing down the govt and destroying FIAT etc.
They just want to spend their money and think it's safe.
Who are you gonna trust shady Ripple inc. guys or GOOGLE ?

And Google's coin to me looks a lot like Ripple.
Except so far* we can't trade the Google tokens on an exchange.
But !
They have already eclipsed the Ripple adoption level by updating Gmail.
BAM instantly you now have users with the wallet.. done !

The thing is why would the Paypal's and Google's etc of the world care about providing trading on Exchanges ?
Why would they care ?
They want to pander to some punks running Poloniex ? LOL i think not  Roll Eyes

That should give you a clue guys.. WHY don't these other services offer their coins on exchanges ?
Well.. many offer company stocks.

And the guy said disruptive ?
I think you meant working with the rules established.
Not sure why you all seem to think you can't WORK WITH LAW.
It's always this either we break all laws or it won't worm mentality.
Apparently it does work.. look at the animated gif Wink

Guess what people ?

I will say it confidently, this is not an altcoin. This just a new part of business that touching monetary system and exploit their billion users. This just will compare with PayPal and don't ever think they will making something like bitcoin. First of all, it's centralized. Then it's just another dollars online and can't be trade like something good here.

In theory, this is just your Credit Card integrated with your email app. You fund your Google Wallet using your Credit Card and use it to transfer funds. Not very different from mobile wallet apps out there, just with a big brand name.

Exactly, I thought they were actually releasing a 'Google Coin' from the subject header but this is just another layer to their Google Wallet.

It won't affect Bitcoin in any way. It will be like PayPal or other transaction alternatives. It's not a currency.

The title is misleading,it's not actually a crypto coin just like we have here,I don't believe that Google will set up a decentralized currency, because they always wants to be in control, what you post is the closest they can get and anyway it only caters to specific country, unlike any coin here.

This wont work out and bitcoin would be still better speaking of those fees and blah blah things that we would always experience on fiat-related transactions. That Google  coin would just act like a e-currency but still needed to be funded by traditional ways. Theres no special on this one, they might got attention but not for us bitcoin users.

I don't think this rivals crypto any more than paypal does (which is greatly in one respect)

The entire point of crypto though is there is eventually NO point of central control.

This is just paypal from google.

Also how are you going to make crazy ROI'Z on this?

Although many hate the gambling aspect of crypto it is actually the driving force and funding for its development.

People don't mind losing a gamble if it is fair or appears fair. They don't like getting openly shafted. This is why stomping down on open scams is very important. They inhibit the furtherment of crypto by frightening crypto enthusiasts and gamblers away.

Eventually crypto will improve to be really decentralised end to end.

I should agree with some of your points. Yes, crypto is the only P2P decentralized network. However, Google is different from Paypal because it doesn't charge any fees for TX's. What will happen in the future, I suppose, Google will provide service for unbanked. It would be enough to have simple android wallet to get $ as you are getting emails. Businesses will accept google worldwide because it hasn't fees. In this way it is revolutionary. They can allow to not charge people as they have a lot of streams of income while crypto doesn't.

I'd like someone to analyse the underlying mechanisms that can allow google to offer this.

How will the unbanked use it to send money?

Google will let businesses use this without fee's?

I don't get how it can work out for them.

It was only a matter of time when it happens. Google, FB, Youtube, Twitter etc. has billions of users and it is easy to throw in-platform currency upon them and send the banks into knockout. They don't need to hunter new customers because they have a lot. They don't need any stupid marketing because everyone knows what is Google. But there are some disadvantages. It is still centralized and they can freeze your account any minute. They will send you bunch of advertisments based on your shopping and search history habits.

Quote
Gmail on Android now lets you send and request money - and doing so is "completely free".
"they can even arrange for money they receive to go directly into their bank account".
.
This part is a game changer. Why bother with blockchain issues if you can move money in seconds for free directly to your bank account!
Just because you have a business giant with millions of users doesn't mean you can do anything.
If Google, fb etc try to interfere and disrupt the monetary system, they will be punished by government.

If you have business with millions of users that means - you already have user base and you don't need to spend your time to attract them like most of crypto must. Decentralization is idea of libertarians and not of ordinary people. Why you people can't understand that ordinary ones don't need decentralized money and do not bother themselves with decentralization. They will use Google wallet as they're using gmail, Fb, Apple etc.
Why anybody, execpt libertarians, needs blockchain if we have better technology of giant corporations? Does Bitcoin debate is not going about scaling and TX's confirmation time? It can scale 4-5 TX's per second. Wow  Grin And Google Pay can scale as many transactions as emails are sent - unlimited.

Regarding the banks and Google - they wil cohabit. It is easy to respond to AML and KYC requirements with Google and other giant organizations. It is government and bank friendly.

Google has introduced a new feature in its Gmail app on Android, allowing users to send and request money, just as easily as sharing a photo or file.

I said LOTS in the last couple years you were all running out of time to make a coin that gets traction and adopted before the big guys like Facebook or Google etc.

So it's here now.  Shocked
Why would users want to piss around with scammy Altcoins or 8 days TX's with BTC ?

And you may say ohhh it's not a "coin"
Bullshit.. you don't define them as a block-chain and nor should you.
There was suppose to be a better way than the block-chain created long ago
but no one ever bothered.. they simply rolled out ICO "innovation" on top of Block0Chain tech.
Oh and "Ledgers" of course.
So.. since you all love to blur the lines of what an Altcoin is then ..enjoy.
..your ledger is just as much as a coin as Google's Wink

I TOLD YA SO  Grin
