So far i am hearing that x265 produces a slightly blurry result comparing to x264.
Some people out there think blurry is better and proof of this is get any Picture or Video
conversion tool and look at what algo is default.. it's usually Lancosz <-- blurry BS
First thing i do is look for Bicubic or better.
This is going to give you a more accurate and sharper result.
If i wanted blurring i would add post processing to things.
Then we have the encode times.. like 7 hours vs 70 hours
I think the x265 encoder (best i can tell right now) needs more work.
It's not ready for mainstream adoption when encodes times are that long.
And many people are not happy with the result either.
It appears to be over rated like when x264 came out.
Noob encoders proclaimed it was "magic" then would go on to butcher videos with it..
Such as taking a Simpsons episode and cutting it down to 55mb each show. (i seen on TPB way back)
MKV has great tools too.. Mkvtoolnix and related programs rock !
I am not sure if x265 is properly supported with it though. (and the scene rules change advise using it)
And the other thing i wanted to mention is i dropped using codec packs many years ago..
Last one i kept using was Shark's Codec pack.
What did i use instead ?
Lav FiltersI value streamlined stuff with crap removed.
I had no need for extra splitters etc int he codec packages for example.
I eventually realized all i need for a high quality advanced PC setup was..
The "LAV Codec" package (either BIN or Installer) either x64 or x86.
The i just had to disable "Windows Media Foundation" on Windows 7 x64 using Win7DSFilterTweaker.
Then i needed to install the .NET thumbnails program called "Icaros"
Install LAV then check "ALL" ..there ya go SD to 4K support with extensive hardware acceleration options
I have used DXVA with AMD or Cuda with Nvidia or QuickSync with Intel and they all worked great.
The video codec package includes extra post processing options exclusive to LAV
Such as converting to 30 or 60 FPS.
A recent version even added the option to specify what GPU to use..
I use to use for ages Nvidia for my Videos and my Intel QuickSync 4770k Hasswell integrated GPU for my Desktop.
SO i never looked back.. it's been years and the LAV package is simply brilliant stuff !
I use Windows 7 x64 to run Windows Media Center (forcing x64 WMP + Codecs)
I like setting up my own folder library hierarchy in WMC and made a remote with my gamepad + xpadder.
Draw backs ? No Sub's support (if needed i just use VLC for subtitles + videos)
Use what you like guys but i give two thumbs and a penis up to LAV
I also not recently figured out how to install the Doby Hometheater program with my Realtek Audio codec
Combined with LAV i got some pretty decent sound plus options being run to my house AMP.
Audio normalization is a huge bonus !
And HDMI out to my 32 inch Flat screen TV
Interested ?
Install these..
1 LAV Codecs =

http://www.codecguide.com/windows7_preferred_filter_tweaker.htm3 Thumbnailer =
http://shark007.net/forum/Thread-Archived-posts- Install LAV and select "ALL"
- Run Win7DSFilterTweaker and disable all Windows Media Foundation options (in MS Codec Tweaks)
- Run Icaros and activate it (if there is a video format you don't see thumb's for check if the extension is in Icaros)
- right click a video file and select open with "always" x64 if you want to (or google for registry tweak to force it)
That is it.. You now have global support for EVERYTHING conceivable even 4k content.
And the quality options you get with this can't be compared by other options
That is how i do it ..the right way
PS:The tools i suggested are Free and clean.
