CHANCE OF STORMS TOMORROW: NOAA forecasters say there is a 45% chance of G1-class geomagnetic storms on July 26th when shock waves on the outskirts of a CME might deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.
So this bit of info tells us we have a 50/50 chance of G class activity.
Which means a bit of a light show if anything. (in the Southern Pole region)
Nothing to be worried about.
What is interesting though is WHY we got this alert.
Further reading says this..
SOUTHERN LIGHTS: A minor stream of solar wind is buffeting Earth's magnetic field. On
July 25th, it caused a beautiful display of southern lights over New Zealand.
How did such a minor stream of solar wind produce such beautiful lights? It had help. Magnetic fields in the interplanetary space tilted south and linked up with Earth's magnetic field. This opened a
crack in our planet's magnetosphere. Solar wind poured in to fuel the display.
Which the "Crack" link at Nasa.gov says..
"We've discovered that our magnetic shield is drafty, like a house with a window stuck open during a storm," says Harald Frey of the University of California, Berkeley, lead author of a paper on this research published Dec. 4 in Nature. "The house deflects most of the storm, but the couch is ruined. Similarly, our magnetic shield takes the brunt of space storms, but some energy slips through its cracks, sometimes enough to cause problems with satellites, radio communication, and power systems."
So.. What the hell was i just saying people ?
I said NASA / gov + satellites, radio communication, and power systems.
There ya go.. PROOF !
All you would have to do is LOOK to find it..
rather than posting here tinfoil hat pictures. And that specific reference to "risk" was in regards to a crack that we have..
We don't even NEED a crack to have a serious risk either !
The reality is we have little protection on the poles.
When we get pounded by a large CME it slams into the side of our planet then ripples around and penetrates our North / South poles where there is virtually no field protection.
Here is a picture from Wikipedia showing the field in action from Earths "dynamo"
So i am saying on a regular basis we get energy pouring into the poles..
Which is why we ALWAYS have Auroras etc on the Poles all the time.
This is normal all year round..
Problem is when we get hit with a strong enough Coronal Mass Ejection (CME)
Our Magnetic field defenses get over whelmed and those poles get flooded hard.
And in the past that has meant intense effects on us all.
Such as something we have not seen in our modern times for a while..
The Northern Lights on the Equator !
If you see that you KNOW damn well something bad is happening !
It's been over a 100 years since we documented this happening..
But when we did the effects were not good !
There was reports of Telegraphs catching fire.
And because of the flooding we had people reporting Telegraphs were working over the ocean.
Imagine needing to run a cable from the UK to the USA to connect to devices.
Now imagine the atmosphere was so flooded we did not need the cable anymore !
THAT ..is what actually happened !
You may think hey.. so what ?
Who cares if telegraphs were set on fire 100+ years ago.. and more recently power was knocked out from Quebec to New York ?
Well look around !
We have evolved far past the using of Telegraphs to an infrastructure heavily reliant on Electricity.
Just on our planet surface let alone out Satellites and Space Station etc.
So hell bloody yeah we ALL should be watching out for this sort of thing.
The site i linked to Spaceweather.com should be watched as much as your local TV weather !
