The market has been rebounding even before this announcement was made...

This news is just constructive interference as it resonates with the market's temporary upward trend.

I had my finger on the buy button at $411 last night with CoinBase but I feel like the FUD isn't even half way finished yet. I could be wrong but we're not out of the woods yet...

I did buy some but I have the same feeling as you, it could go a lot lower before it rebounces; it could also rebounces to new high but I doubt that it does right away

Let's pile up some money to buy cheap Smiley
One of the biggest exchanges turned out to be an incompetent bunch of losers and we are still here, holding the coins. Cheesy Bring on the FUD!

The arrogance, the immaturity, incomprehensible statement - this is what happens when multi-million dollar financial firms run by kids (not that some adults are much more responsible). Oh, well...

Not a hint on their clients funds - sorry for those of you who lost your money there... Personal wallets, cold storage or not - this was not your fault.
I wouldn't trust that fat bastard to hold my bag of cookies, not to mention serious money. Let's hope people learn from it and never allow Karpeles or his friends to run a scam like that.

I quite like this...  "it resonates with the market's temporary upward trend!"

How idiotic and funny.

LoL

Bitcoin market = some spare exchanges run by some self-appointed captains of the industry d00ds.

This development isn't more than an hour old. The market bottomed 10 hours ago at low $400's and has been following an upward direction since then. This announcement has no substance other than "Hey, the guy with the admin password is still alive!"

I'm reading hopeful posts about Gox rebounding (desperation) and I'm inclined to believe that the hope expressed here is translated into the market in some manner.
For everyone that has bitcoins on gox, I sincerely hope they get back online and are able to withdraw funds. After that, I'd like to see gox gone for good. They have done too much negativity towards bitcoin in general. Time for them to take their ball and go home.

He must be severely punished to serve as an example , or this kind of thing will happen in a infinite loop.

It is a matter of little time that Google first results for the word scam will be all major bitcoin sites, the foundation being the number 1.

After Gox, I would be surprised to see any exchange with a lot of currency stored on it.

In Satoshi I Trust
All of my company's CryptoCurrency Inc's Bitcoins are still in MtGox Sad

It will be interesting to watch the trickle down impact of Gox imploding.  I have a mining company where I sell mining contracts, none of the coins we mined were stored at Gox or any exchange.

-Store your future coins offline
-Encrypt your wallet
-If you want to keep coins online for exchanging, keep them diversified in multiple exchanges.

My Bitcoin advise that I tell everyone:
-Bitcoin (or any cryptocurrency) is very high risk, it's a new market that is going through growing pains.
-Trust no one with your bitcoins
-Keep your ratio of cryptocurrency to fiat under 20% for high risk, 5% for lower risk.

Sorry to everyone that lost BTC with Gox, hopefully the community will keep Mark K. from opening another cryptocurrency business ever again. There's no accountability with Gox, which is tragic.

Correct, but most people will never get it. I guess we need regulation for big btc companys or we will have 10 mtgoxs

Lost your life savings? Lost everything??? visit the Office in japan Mtgox. this is who you should look for Founder/Ceo of MtGox

yeah the guy responsible for mtgox and shutting down the website and permanently shutting down your account.  "Means" you can't get it back unless government steps in and requires Mtgox to Reopen the website to return the money to everyone which i highly doubt the government will do. lol

I agree with pungopete468 on this. BTC prolly into $300's before rebounding to full, IMO.

I'd be more confident with someone buying out Gox than Gox rebooting. Even if Gox rebooted, I'd stay far away.

Looks like it had a positive influence on the other exchange sites. A take-over could be hanging in the air by the look of things for Gox.

In 5 minutes we will have 10 threads on which price their trading engine will be rebooted at and if bitcoinbuilder can be used if the market takes off in the wrong direction...

mark karpeles is following the same script as pirate@40.  no action, just announcments of excuses why they dont simply return funds.

...delay tactics. basically.

every other exchange has already scripted a workaround for malleability. so mtgox has no excuse.

"monitoring the situation" = sitting back and not doing anything, just watching.....

Reuters reports that Mt. Gox “should have an official announcement ready soon-ish,” according to Mark Karpeles, CEO at the exchange.

“We are currently at a turning point for the business. I can’t tell much more for now as this also involves other parties,” he said.

Their statement means nothing.  I guess at this point, they don't care what happens because they closed all trades and withdrawals.  Sure, they're killing Bitcoin the longer they drag this out, but since when have they cared about Bitcoin?

It means they are addressing problems in a reactive way, not proactive.

For a company with "crypto" in its name, you sure didn't value having access to the private key very highly.

Yes, but why couldn't they have put this up last night instead of a blank page. The PR incompetence knows no bounds.

Well it took a while until the thousand monkeys typed up something good enough.
