IMO the 6970 will become the next best $/MH card available

I would have to say the 6950! You can unlock the cores in ALL of them, whether the 2GB or the 1GB. The unlocked 1GB 6950 is $100 cheaper than a 6970, and performs about the same.

Well I just wanted to see what you guys think about the next fastest mining card...but apparently not.

You can never know what ATI is planing...
It could be better MH/s
Who knows.

The 6990 should be the 5970's replacement.

Simply because it makes sense under all power configurations and there is less support hardware needed per GPU.

Also far fewer issues with power, noise and heat should arise.

Do the people agree?

Is it really so hard to make a spreadsheet and plug the hash speed and price numbers into it?  Why can no one ever seem to figure out how to do these simple calculations?

The 6xxx uses significantly more electricity than the 5xxx cards. About 30%... =[

looking at this i would say that 69xx faster than 58xx faster than 68xx Smiley

When the next gen (7xxx) cards come out, the 6xxx cards will be cheaper. The 6xxx are faster than the 5xxx cards by a bit. For instance, the 6970 has less shaders, but more efficient architecture. They are faster, clock for clock than 5800 cards.

Do you think there will be an even better card for mining?
No the marked will go backwards and we'll all be mining on cpu's again...

Do you think AMD will see listen to the bitcoiners and build GPU's with tons of stream processors?
Do you really think AMD is willing to invest millions in designing something for a niche marked? Even if they did the price would probably not be attractive by anyone but very large miners, why? just look at FirePro/Quadro and you got your answer...

I think you are sarcastic for your first answer right? XD
But really. You don't know if they will make something with a lot of stream processors. Look at the 6990. It's the fastest graphics card in the world...but not for our purposes. They can make faster and faster graphics cards, but if they don't have stream processors, we would all be screwed, and stuck with the discontinued 5xxx series.

Everyone knows that you want to get the most mh/s per buck. Right now that's the 5850/30 (right?) And because of that, the 5xxx series has been in high demand.  With the release of the 6990 a few months ago, a new series is going to come out soon.

Do you think there will be an even better card for mining? Do you think AMD will see listen to the bitcoiners and build GPU's with tons of stream processors? Or do you think AMD might do the same thing as Nvidia and get rid of all of the stream processors for something else? How fast do you expect the "next best mining card" to be? Barely faster, insanely faster? Will the 5xxx series die out due to no more demand?
