Hopefully there are more new appealing features coming with it.

It has the simplicity the common person is used to, with innovative features added. Just the idea of transferring value like Bitcoin and Gemz as easy as sending a message without having to deal with long addresses is on it's own pretty cool, but it's much more then that. The whole attention based economy makes it even better where the user is put in centre of the ecosystem.

An example:

Spam is a major issue with any communications platform (consider email and spam) since senders of bulk amounts of unsolicited messages are able to do so without incurring a cost, causing users to hide their address in order to protect themselves. Having to pay with GEMZ for unsolicited messages solves this problem at the core while opening very fun and interesting possibilities.

we are building a social network based on attention economy. If someone wants your attention they need to pay you directly. (With LinkedIn you pay the company to send unsolicited messages to users. In Tinder you can’t send unsolicited messages to girls you like even if you wanted to. In Instagram you can’t get the celebrities attention because their hashtag is being “spammed”. In Gems you will be able to do all these things if you pay the right price in GEMZ. The cost to send such an unsolicited message is dependent on the relative popularity of the recipient using a bidding system commonly employed by Google.

If this is just for instant messaging which is a copy of whatapp I think it's nothing new and the young generation doesn't care about decentralization.Facebook has done fabulous job in social networking. Hopefully there are more new appealing features coming with it.

I agree on there part saying Bitcoin so far has failed to appeal and capture attention of the female target group where you can expect big spenders from there. Imagine if there were stores that cater solely for this purpose for them to spend for shopping items like cosmetic, clothes, accessories paid only in bitcoin. Also it's a good direction embarking on integration into social networks which will definitely bring about positive changes.

They have no problem with credit cards, and they like to shop. Making it easy for them is the only piece of the puzzle that is missing.

I don't think the current sms networking needs any update. it's already very much instant, but good for Bitcoin.

the only problem i find with these things is that they are like bing rewards. bing rewards is seriously one of the dumbest things ever and so many ppl cheat it that i am very sure they lose tons of money on it. people make 100 + accounts and use bots to make an easy 500 bucks a month redeeming amazon gift card codes. you can make about 5 bucks per account per month. they also have other deals sometimes like instead of spending 475 points on a 5 dollar amazon gift card, right now you can spend 100 points and get a 15 dollar gift card to shari's berries, which are kinda like a big deal in a lot of places for being good quality chocolates and stuff.

Messaging can be implemented, like already done by Bitmessage.

But, instant messaging is difficult because of the 10min+ confirmation delay. But, if they can be associated with Tx and read from Mempool, then it's fine.

Guys this is a must watch recent podcast with Daniel of Gems and Dario of Koinify. The explanation on 'attention economy' build around the app is really fascinating and innovative which opens the gateway to do many things. Everyone should listen to it.

I would like to point out that it is the very first app build on top of Bitcoin powered by CP allowing Bitcoin to be used in the app. They are fixed, Counterparty assets, so there is no pre-mine, there's no pre-mine in CP. The app is primarily based around attention economy which has pretty cool features, it is very easy to use and very similar to Whatsapp which everyone is familiar with. Both Bitcoin and Gemz have the same addresses and their own wallet. You send Bitcoin the receiver gets Bitcoin, you send Gemz and the receiver get Gemz. It's a token directly competing with social networks.

It is primarily aimed to the younger generation, teens and especially females which are ruling the social networking traffic but are missed in the Bitcoin ecosystem. Gem means a precious stone, in this case the Gems brand is imo more attractive to this target group. From my experience most of them still don't know what Bitcoin is or don't really bother to use it. Gems It's like a bait to attract this target group to Bitcoin. Apart from that it's hard to get it's business model done with just Bitcoin.

Ultimately Bitcoin is making decentralised banking, Openbazaar is making decentralised online market place, Storj is making cloud storage decentralised, Gems is making social messaging decentralised. It will succeed with community support and especially marketing, not just inside the crypto community but outside of it aswell.
