it will run 2x faster, so even if it cost $400 it's worth it, actually it should be better because dual chip consume less than a single one, while maintaining the same hash
I do not know where you get this information? Vega architecture is the new architecture and is not a double chip of the RX480. Vega powerful graphics card will not be as cheap.

Why are you assuming the RX 490 (if it appears) will be a Vega card?
The rumors of when the RX 490 is likely to appear are ALL WRONG for a Vega card (2+ months too soon).

*MY* bet is that the Vega cards won't be RX 4xx at all for naming anyway - might be RX 5xx, might be something else.

As I already SAID, the Vega is more an update to the FURY architecture anyway, not to the Polaris - the use of HBM is definitive.

The TECHNOLOGY however - 14nm - IS the same as Polaris, as the chart you posted clearly shows.

Vega uses the same technology as the current Polaris - except for the use of HBM memory instead of GDDR.

It's more the "next generation of Fury" than "the next generation of Polaris".
 Think "Fury/FuryX/Nano" vs "R9 390/390x".

The RX 490 (if it actually appears) still looks more likely to be a "dual Polaris" card than anything else.

Architecture is not the same. These are the latest information on the architecture:

" Let’s start off with a simple summary of Vega’s key features. This should help paint a picture of how much of a drastic step forward the new architecture is compared to Polaris.

Vega Architecture

– 4x Power Efficiency
– 2x Peak Throughput/Performance Per Clock
– High Bandwidth Cache
– 2x Bandwidth per pin
– 8x Capacity Per stack ( 2nd Generation High Bandwidth Memory )
– 512TB Virtual Address Space
– Next Generation Compute Engine
– Next Generation Pixel Engine
– Next Compute Unit Architecture
– Rapid Packed Math
– Draw Stream Binning Rasterizer
– Primitive Shaders " .

Question now will be, "Are they going to be good mining cards?" Smiley

We saw how a new memory architecture made the card hard to exploit with GTX 1080, true that AMD minerbase is alot bigger, but wait & see Smiley

That is a good question.

How long do we have to wait?

I hope I'll come close to ROI on my RX 480's  Roll Eyes

I think it will not as it is too expensive.

Vega is new arch (well modified more than Fury or Polaris) Its Single chip (there will be several versions - like Fury and Fury X, Nano? - but I'm not 100% sure)
Its likley 8Gb HBM2 but it is announced to work as cash for all memory in the system (it may have onboard SSD?) and we need to see how it will work for mining in terms of latency and other practical aspects of memory (might be similar to furys HBM and GDDR5X) - so it might be good or not so good for mining..
In terms of the TDP - its likely to be 250W card (top card but there might be lower TDP version).
It should be expensive and comparable in perf with Titan XP (but that is yet to be seen) The big question is when it is released and quantities (expected to be really poor if it launches feb-march - less than 10000 units world wide) Should OC poorly due to HBM2

in one post i found starting price for the lowest grade one may be 240 USA so it will kind of be reasonable to some extent i plan to buy a few cards over time, I'm guessing  480 8gb card will drop a lot if so or the lower priced 480 8gb cards will like they did when NV tried to corner the market as i call it and forced AMD to lower prices in OCT and some of the RX 480 4gb dropped to 470 4gb prices . .

You sure that dual chip would consume less than a single one ? i remember the 7990 are big power hogs.

I think some of them will be single chip cards .

but you would think that but look what he say or its a new Chip size which the 7990 are not they were 32 nm if im not mistaken even 28 nm if thy were  won't match up to 14 nm which the new chips are designed  around  .

Ah yes if it's a brand new chip, with smaller "nm" that could indeed be less in power consumption, but i really doubt it'll could be the same as a RX480 for double the power without really "changing" the architecture. Maybe 130-140% of the current 480, dunno we'll see Wink
