i can relate to miners only knowing nicehash.. i am one of them a few months back i built an 8 card mining rig..

its been using nicehash.. now for the sad part.. being new to it i didnt have any means of storage set up to i opted to use the nicehash wallet.. at least for a while..

my intention was to mine and hold.. at first i am not holding much but after a couple of mounts i have about 2K in my wallet and things start to heat up and i order a ledger blue hardware wallet.. its still waiting for me to set it up.. ouch..

anyways my nicehash wallet got to around 3.5K quite quickly during my third month of mining then nicehash gets hacked..

my 3.5 K (one third of one bitcoin) which now would be over 5K is now gone... ouch..

i am now using minergate to mine etherium.. i  mine two rigs.. the dedicated one and my desktop machine.. 10 x 1070 cards in all..

what was a good experience and looking better by the day has rapidly turned a little sour.. he he

purely in retrospect this but mining was a mistake.. i should have put the 4K i spent on the mining rig into buying one whole bitcoin.. stored it securely and it would be at 17K or whatever bitcoin now is.. we live we learn.. he he

trog

I'm in a group of miners that are mining with nicehash and just reading their thoughts about the incident.

And you know what happened? Most of them are selling their rigs already, it seems that most of them are using nicehash only and doesn't know to do mine pooling.

I assume that they are conveniently mining by directly getting their payouts with converted bitcoin instead of alt coin.

"Official press release regarding the NiceHash security breach
Unfortunately, there has been a security breach involving NiceHash website. We are currently investigating the nature of the incident and, as a result, we are stopping all operations for the next 24 hours."

Does anyone here do GPU mining? How much did you lose? My friend lost a lot, he was supposed to cash out tomorrow. That's really unlucky of him.

This is really not good even it doesn't affect the Bitcoin price to drop, and I wonder why this happened while the Bitcoin value is skyrocketing, This makes me think that they might not really got hacked and maybe it is just like what other people said that it is an inside job or exit scam. Nowadays it is really hard to trust any cryptocurrency third party platform and exchanges even they have good reputation and already operating for a long time. Nicehash is the most used mining software here in my country for mining altcoins and I also have acquaintances who use it, most of them lost everything. What a NiceHack!  Grin

This loss would have been much less severe if NiceHash wasn't so greedy as to keep the minimum withdrawal so high (BTC0.01). Seriously, $100+ minimum withdrawal?

I didn't saw their post before and thought that no one knew about what happened on nicehash here. I apologize if this annoys you.

There are already 2 topics opened in this section and more including others. Can't you just continue the conversation there instead create another topic? There is no need to flood the forum with the same topic over and over again. It's very annoying, to say the least.

We can trust no one in crypto, we dont know that huge amount of money is going tho whose pocket

Perhaps it goes to its own dev team pretending to not knowing who's the hacker. Sorry for the loss of everybody affected, hope you recover your loss soon
