You can get away with a lower up front cost with the server PSUs though, especially if you factor in the cost of shipping. And with the breakout boards, you have some flexibility in not having to have extra unused wires around if you're already maxed out the wattage of the PSU.

My question to those who have APW3++. Are they more or less noisy than the Server PSUs? I'm designing a room with 220v (vs the 110 I have now) and would like to know if the 220v would be worth it (so I can utilize the APW3++) or if I should just have 110v run. If they are just as noisy, then I will stick with the Server PSUs unless you can tell me why that's not preferable?

Bitmain APW series *are* in a sense server PSU's. Designed/built specifically for continuous max 12v-only output in high ambient temps. So far the couple dozen I have have been every bit as good/reliable as the HP and IBM server PSU's I used to get. Difference is no separate breakouts/cables needed so easier to deploy. ...

I have a few S7s and S9s (soon to be D3) powered by Server PSUs now but I've ordered APW3++ from Bitmain yesterday.
My question to those who have APW3++. Are they more or less noisy than the Server PSUs? I'm designing a room with 220v (vs the 110 I have now) and would like to know if the 220v would be worth it (so I can utilize the APW3++) or if I should just have 110v run. If they are just as noisy, then I will stick with the Server PSUs unless you can tell me why that's not preferable?

240 all the way, do it and don't look back!!! Speaking from experience. Every bit of efficiency you can eek out of your setup is money in.your pocket. It Also sets you up for expansion should you choose to do so. As far as noise goes, I think most server PSU are very similar to APW3++ in terms of noise. However it's kind of a moot point since any S9 or D3 will be much louder than any PSU you will choose.
BTW you definitely need more than a 1200 watt psu to power a S9 or D3 1500-1600 watt minimum. Splitting power supplies isn't the greatest idea ever. Increases complexity, risk of things going wrong. Just get a good single PSU and call it a day.
In my experience, the HP server PSUs are pretty quiet, certainly way quieter than a S9.
If you need to install new wiring, stick to 240V since you can get twice the power for the same wire, plus PSUs tend to be a little more efficient at 240V.
