unless you plan on using the cpu to mine, even the cheapest of cpus will suffice. The  hash rate of a cpu is fairly insignificant in comparison to a decent gpu. As to the motherboard I can't say explicitly if it will make much of a difference my instinct says it will make almost no difference to the hash rate

Also, how much difference does the CPU and MB make for a single GPU system? I noticed the CPU usage on my system is barely visible.

I'm using 2x MSI twin frozr 7950's, they seem to be doing the job pretty well and they are far quieter than the single fan solutions on the reference cards. I wouldn't bother paying the premium for pre over clocked cards

I've heard that the MSI 7950 are preferred due to the fans and the capacitors. Is it safer to get one that's not already OC'd?

Thanks a lot every one. No idea what the problem was, but it did eventually start and has been running since, producing the ASS-kicking account balance of 0.28231383000000004 LTC. The 5770 has been running between around 250-300 293 KH/s. I think I'm going to shop around for a faster GPU. Any suggestions?

Yes, it supports stratum, I've been using GUIMiner-Scrypt for LTC mining, it is just a frontend for miners. If CGMiner supports Stratum (which it does), so does GUIMiner-Scrypt.

I prefer just using CGMiner from command-line, but GUIMiner-Scrypt is great for testing out different flags, options, settings, etc.

Does GUIMiner support Stratum? I believe it is just a frontend to different actual miners. You might need to setup a proxy as per: http://www.wemineltc.com/gettingstarted

That's the correct URL for WeMineLTC.

Both work. Was probably just a timing thing or the servers were down for a second.

The protocol area of the URL looks malformed.  I would try http:// or https://
Then see if your getting accepted shares not just hash rate. Sweet.

Looks alright, can't tell much with the username/pass blotted out, but I'm guessing that's the issue. The username/password should be for the worker, not the account. Most pools default to your username.1 with a password of x, which would be in my case " -u TheSpiral.1 -p x ". Shouldn't be any account details in the command, just a worker.

I want to try mining LTC. Started by reading http://cryptojunky.com/blog/2013/03/12/absolute-beginners-guide-to-litecoin-mining/. Installed GUIminer, joined wemineltc.com, added the worker and used the correct username and password, but can't connect.

Joined this forum to ask, but can't post in the pool forum due to Noob restriction.
