Fail to plan, and you plan to fail.

Hello,
As you can see, there are only 5 SATA ports on the PSU. If I have 6 GPUs, where should I connect the last one ?
Thank you for your help.

1) Do not plug in Molex power on the motherboard
2) Use Molex plugs directly to the risers, do not use the Molex to Sata convertors. Pcie powered risers are better but more expensive, and often psus wont have enough connectors to run the risers and the cards
3) Connect two risers per cable, not more
4) That 1600w pus is overkill unless you're running 6 x Vega cards, but thats something to keep in mind for future builds

Have a computer store do it. If it is wrong and sags later on it can short out or melt a wire. It is less of a wire config and the last step is more like construction and the chassis is going to make some choices for you. Let someone else do it and give them a $20 bill.

Starting at the riser end.
- White molex connector into the black molex connection on the riser board.
- Sata connector on the other end of the molex connector into a SATA cable that comes with your PSU (the first SATA connection).
- Then the 6-PIN connection into the SATA port on your PSU.

A lot of people hate on the Sata connection risers, and while yes, they are the worst type of riser, it doesn't mean you can't use them if you've already bought them.

I used to power 2 SATA connection risers with 1 cable from the PSU. However, some of the SATA to Molex cables did get quite warm.

Therefore, I powers 1 riser with 1 SATA cable and that has been fine. Been this way for 18 months. No melting or fires etc.

Most of those melting pictures are where people overload the wire limits.

So they can be used safely if you don't overload them BUT other types of risers are better, and what I will always buy in the future.

damn, I should change mine out... I've been using 1 to power 3 risers, 2 cables total for 6 risers, guess i'll run another cable tomorrow..

those molex risers have a pretty bad history, most recommended is 6pin riser(v006c). Also make sure to use maximum of 2 risers for every cable.
Happy mining

I'm confused, I'm using 3 risers to 1 SATA power cable using the 6pin adapter.. I should only be using 2 per cable?

With those 6pin adapters, a couple of the pins tend to fall out of the back side of the 6 pin, its super annoying

Its a really nice psu and what a bargain for that price!  Cool

If you are having trouble getting 6 cards to work you can check out this guide: http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/support/faq_content.php?S_ID=768

So u got a 1600 watt evga supernova, nice and dandy.

with this psu and 6 card setup motherboard i would spend a few more dollars to get 6 pin risers.

something like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Headset-In-Ear-Earphone-with-Mic-Voice-Control-for-SAMSUNG-GALAXY-S3-S4-2-NOTE-N7100/1012376457.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.10.xz2sCb&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_2_10152_10065_10151_10068_10344_10342_10343_10340_10341_10307_10301_10137_10303_10060_10155_10154_10056_10055_10054_5470020_10059_100031_10099_5460020_10338_10339_10103_10102_440_10052_10053_10142_10107_10050_10051_5380020_10171_10326_10084_10083_5370020_10080_10082_10081_10110_10111_10112_10113_10114_143_10312_10313_10314_10078_10079_10073,searchweb201603_1,ppcSwitch_4&btsid=a1969007-d84b-4417-adfa-6aa599fe29b1&algo_expid=1e7fdfe6-86d6-4137-bbc0-a8d8e81f0cc0-1&algo_pvid=1e7fdfe6-86d6-4137-bbc0-a8d8e81f0cc0

your psu  have already 5 , 6pin pcie cables  so then you would have 5 risers + gpu to a single vga cable.

also a + would be that u wouldnt need those cheap adapters that in worst case scenarios melt.
but if you are not gonna buy any 6 pin risers then you should just put one sata cable per riser and that goes for the molex aswell.

Just bought 6pin risers.

I only took this evga 1600w Platinium PSU because there was a great instore offer : 280 €. Nice for this quality PSU Smiley

Thank all of you for your help !!

Best advice I can give you is to change risers and buy some powered by pci-e connectors. Otherwise results coule be similar to the post above mine.
Many discussion were made about this topic: do spend a bit of time to understand very well how this works, in order not to face problems like melted cables or even fire.

The PSU may only have 5 sata ports but the cable you connect to that port will have 3 sata connections.  So you can connect more than one riser per sata connection.  Only connect two cards per sata port.

Hello,

I'm setting up my very first rig.

After following several tutorials online, I know how to assemble all the pieces, except risers.

That's how my riser looks like :

Initially I thought it was enough to connect the usb cable from the riser to the pci-e slot and the VGA connector (from PSU) to the GPU.

But I have read that it is also necessary to connect this molex cable.

But where should I connect the black part "sata"?

On my EVGA power supply, I see that there are 5 SATA connectors. I think I have to connect to it.

It comes with a lot of cables :

I'am using a Biostar TB-250 motherboard.

As you can see, there are only 5 SATA ports on the PSU. If I have 6 GPUs, where should I connect the last one ?

I am using Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ 8GB GPUs (will be delivered tomorrow)

Thank you for your help.
