So I guess it's explained why the address has been used many times in previous years... Maybe this was just news because the website in question had nothing else to write about? Cheesy

HODLing is an art, not just a word...
The address they list has been used since 2013, maybe they've accepted it for a long time but didn't really publicise it? Or maybe they're reusing an address... Either way, good of them for accepting Bitcoin and even better that they have a few Bitcoins already Smiley
Nice find actually looking at https://blockchain.info/address/1BSA5fck9enPnKxPZ413BfHtm8gAKxtdq4?offset=300&filter=0
They are getting lots of small bitcoins back in 2013 also so may be they were using bitcoin to receive donations by that time?

All bitcoin (4BTC+) seems sitting unused in the address, looks like they are planning to reward or pay developers via bitcoin.

not only that but also their team have been giving their prizes in form of bitcoin also and this was for back in 2014 that they had some competition . all of this only proves that cointelegraph is an unreliable source for anything bitcoin related Cheesy

Notepad++ has been accepting Bitcoin donation since years. I think the attractiveness of Bitcoin as a donation option varies and depends on the legal framework of the country where the project owner resides. Some countries might require identification of donors.

Bitcoin is still far from mainstream adoption - even in the IT community. So potential benefit of adding Bitcoin as a donation option is limited. So the motivation of other teams to accept BTC is fairly low, especially considering that some people are indoctrinated by mass media and might hold a negative impression of the currency. Another factor is that too many payment options might actually lead to lower total donation amounts, because people are overwhelmed by having too many choices.

It makes no sense to push people for Bitcoin acceptance if they are not convinced it is beneficial for them. This may quickly lead to frustration if subsequently there are no significant donations in BTC.

the address which you had mentioned is 3 years old and they had already received bits of bitcoin from that time May be they had used that address for other purpose or could have receiving donation from earlier and had publicized now after 3 years, knowing its potential

i am not surprised.
once again cointelegraph fails to publish yet another reliable news. it seems like they just type something in with least amount of time spent on making their articles and the more click baitable the article (not particularly this one) the better.

Cashback 15%
This kind of publishment will definitely boost bitcoin promotion.  There are lots of users of notepad ++ and i am one of them.  This is an indication that with a reputable company trusting bitcoin simply mean us, ordinary people must trust in bitcoin too.

I checked the bitcoin address and there was transaction somewhere in 2013 to 2014.  I wonder if they already used it as donation address way back those years and just reused it again this year.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that popular source code and text editor Notepad++, is accepting Bitcoin donations to support its developers.
Mate.notepad++ is not even one of the best open source apps that is accepting donations in bitcoins. If you look at some popular public repos, most accept bitcoins.Look at any game mod's or bot developers.

Sublime Text in the other hand (which I consider it better then Notepad++) refused to take Bitcoin as donation for some reasons.
If you guys would like to donate to Notepad++ then here is the link : https://notepad-plus-plus.org/donate/donate-action.html
Sublime is great.Do you even know they don't take any donations ? It's not an open source product but a commercial license  could be purchased for continued use.

Over the past few years, active developers have requested the teams and companies behind reputable text and source code editing software to accept donations in Bitcoin.
