A varied portfolio is good. I am hoping that BTC experiences another run, perhaps nearer to the end of 2014 which sees it at around 5k- if money come through via wider adoption, wall street, the W brothers' EFT etc. If this does happen there is sure to be fairly dramatic increases in the price of alts, as per the last price jump ie LTC, NMC, PPC, which gained some fairly crazy percentages. I would be that there are a whole other tier of alts which could now achieve something similar. WDC, DGC, DVC, NXT, are all in positions to achieve some huge percentage gains. Even if BTC doesn't achieve that kind of gain, miners will be cycling through an increasingly larger pool of alts, and whereas BTC may stay stable, those alts will experience large increases.
I am betting on alts with longevity, good development, and even good institutional connections- I thought this about LTC (and NMC to a lesser extent) prior to the large jump from $3ish and that paid off well. It still has upside perhaps to around $100- but from there it becomes anyone's guess- and wider adoption matters more imo.
Your strategy of playing the entire field should pay off, perhaps better than mine, but the field has become so large that it's tougher than ever to keep pace with. The hardest part, as always with stocks etc, is working out when to sell. I am a proponent of taking the long view- day trading, or selling too soon can lead to missing out on certain opportunities, and can place too much emotional investment on things. If you are taking a long-view in years, then I think that you'll come out on top no matter what happens. 100 times? Maybe!

There are many scam-coins on market now and it's hard to know, what coins will grow fast. Many of them will not grow and if you buy them, you could lose money. This month MOON and DOGE only growth 1000%, it's because nobody believed that they will grow. It's best to read forums, facebook pages and to analyze where crowd will go and be there before the crowd.

Only buy coins listed on cryptsy. For best return buy the coins that they added since Dec 15. You can thank me later!!

What's the rationale for this? As far as I can tell, new coins have been 42, Fedora, RonPaul, OpenSource, Moon, and the like since that time.

The rationale is as follows, these coins are new to the exchange and have not experienced the huge increases seen in late november thru mid december. The older coins have a lot of sell orders sitting near their previous highs, so upside will be limited for them.  When the next big upside move occurs these new coins will go up more than older coins, i.e. the virgins will fly high!

I would go with a high risk/high reward coin in your case.

Something with 'lasting power' though. It needs to have a community marketing it right now, it currently needs a high market cap, and it needs to be undervalued.

Considering these points,
I would say the following have great marketing: BTC, LTC, DOGE, QRK, PPC (soon), WDC, and DVC
^All have a high market cap besides DVC
BTC, LTC and Doge are all overvalued right now. BTC needs 3 million NEW dollars a day to maintain at its current price. LTC needs 500k NEW dollars to maintain its current price. Doge needs 1.3 million NEW dollars a day to maintain its current price (worst value in the crypto-game).

I would say based on these criteria: QRK, WDC, and possibly PPC are good investments.

That said, I personally have no money in WDC because I don't really see it as being better than QRK. Also, you may want to consider Zeta and Devcoin if you like the maintenance cost theory.

My current high risk/high reward ventures: QRK and CENT

As you can see nobody wants to discover which coin is the worst to buy or to mine. Smiley Everybody talking about the best coins only.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/worst-coins-to-buy-or-mine-439267

That 1000x sounds too good for me now. Smiley Maybe some of the worst coins can reach 1000x.
