I mined with my Laptop when zcash 1st came out, cpu and then gpu and I had to replace both fans, they started making noise after a while ... was not worth it.

You might have warranty on it and can get it replaced for free... you have to figure that out for yourself!

Laptops run warm as it is and aren't designed for 100% load and that is what mining will attempt to do, you will shorten the life of components and possibly kill your laptop. IF you are really interested in mining I suggest a last gen asic to try things out with and learn, could be sha (bitcoin) or scrypt (litecoin and some alts).

even if you have a gaming laptop and cooler boost 3?

Hello everyone. I am getting a new laptop (a gaming one) that cost's $1100 and would also like to mine some GPU/CPU only coins for fun! I would like to know what the best coins are to mine for both. It'd also be of great help to know an estimate of how much I'll make (per day) for the GPU/CPU coin.

CPU: 4th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-4720HQ processor (2.6GHz normal and up to 3.6GHz Turbo).
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M (2GB of dedicated GDDR5 RAM)

Also, have 12GB of DDR3L RAM if that matters.

maybe, on my bookmark i have some good link to let you understand better...

take a look here...

..and you will understand better who jermwerty, djm34 and BitSunda are giving you the right council!

DO NOT MINE ON A LAPTOP, YOU WILL KILL IT!  100%

Reason?

They are designed for "normal use" not to be GPU stress-tested by mining.   YOU WILL FRY THE GPU.

shit yeahh , mining over laptop will burn everything.
will be better build a rigs.

you should post in alt coins section.  BTC and sha 256 coins need better gear then a gpu.

some altcoins are so so but they are better then btc.  also mining with a laptop is a good way to kill the laptop
