Preitty sure ASICs are already tops for "cyptocurrency". That is the one that matters! Give scrypt altcoins a few months and it will be the same there too.

Is it possible that as we get closer to Maxwell we'll see massive price drops for AMD cards as miners sell them to buy Nvidia cards?

I'm really, really surprised that it took them this long enough to figure out why AMD video cards were sold completely out of stock all over the place all the time while NVIDIA cards stayed on the shelves.

apparently Maxwell has some mining potential, and NVIDIA are not big on promoting it... this great syndicated article makes a good case for it
