Jesus, are people still buying/selling merits anywhere, not just on bitcointalk but on other platforms?  Seems like it's been a long time since I've heard about crap like this.  I'm actually curious as to what a single merit is going for on the black market, assuming such a market still exists.

Fuck that member.  Even if he had an alt account with merits to give away, my guess is that it was a scam attempt or some other shenanigans.
They're buying/selling merits because you and other merit sources have been chill about giving merits to people on this with your post reviews with merit rewards Grin, kidding aside though, it should be no surprise that it's still a lucrative thing to do because there's people that see the forum as a potential place for you to earn bitcoins just by being active on the forum and discussions and for that reason, there's people that want to take a shortcut and not spend anytime improving the quality of their posts and that demand is actually being fulfilled by some shady people in the forum that has the ability to provide that demand, it's a never ending battle that will only be ended if people starts getting principles. It doesn't even matter if this is a scam or not, it's a lose-lose situation to whoever buys from this dude because people will find out.

I think he wanted to cheat with this wallet Screenshot. And later OP deleted this wallet image and I recovered it.

If he shows proof of funds this thread will be deleted since it was made to spread awareness of scams. Otherwise he is just bsing and is trying to scam members out of merit in an attempt to rank up. User is also Newbie member which is a red flag and it has been about an hour, still has refused to post actual proof of funds.
The person has already removed the content of the Op so obviously Op is not offering the same thing which has been offered from the beginning. So, it might be considered as merit abuse and/or scam activity.

Yes, I'm an asshole
I have gone through this topic shared above but seems to be edited and when I tried to read from people's comment it seems to be merits buying, to me which looks very bad and isn't allowed to buy merits rather you can be more creative and constructive to receive them when you make some good comments. Then your title isn't corresponding to what you just posted here maybe try to change it as the first user already suggested.

The title has been changed since my suggestion, and describe the situation nicely; "Merit Buyer created a "raffle" thread".

The whole idea lies in him trying to show interest in organizing a raffle draw but has no proof of funds to back it up, then the other side of the story is someone try to accuse him of phishing for merits, to me, I see this as two opposite things, I don't even think you can earn merits like that for organizing a raffle draw except people have tested you and see how true you sound in what you offers, secondly, the forum is not liable to stand for you for any offer you do or receive, you're on your own, including your participation in any signature campaigns, ensure you make research before starting anything here, scam is not moderated here, it's not a force to engage on a raffle, it's by choice.

The whole idea was him trying to earn merit by having a raffle contest. The entry for that raffle is by meriting his post. This is just a merit buying with extra step... or... less step. The other side of the story is someone calling this attempt out. No one phish anyone.

Without commenting on the situation with the raffle (as I have not looked in to it), there certainly is a trade for merits and accounts out there, I can think of one website where the forum was being mentioned and prices were set according to account rankings.

Imagine being told you will receive a Hero or Legendary ranked account or 'x' amount of merits on the condition you send the money first but then suffer the indignity of getting scammed. If that were the case, where would the victim go? I have seen threads in the past where account buyers posted to say they were scammed but that defeats the object of anonymity if they are exposing themselves.

Too bad you're creating a thread against him to early, we might see there was a high ranked account want to participate it. Tongue

Since the @OP account is still a newbie and some people think it was a part of learning, tagging him might be not worthy.

I was just simply trying to prevent a possible scam attempt and didn't think of much else when he failed to provide valid evidence for proof of funds.

Since he has taken it down and is still a new member, tagging is not worthy but should be noted if he continues to do shady acts like this in the future.

you don't deliver your own side of the deal, the account will get a red tag if not for merit buying for scamming
And why you didn't give red tag on his account?

FYI: it's the unedited post

But how on earth does the OP think people will be stupid enough to fall for that trick? You will end up tricking people, and if they fall for that and you don't deliver your own side of the deal, the account will get a red tag if not for merit buying for scamming, which will render the account useless, so what's the point anyway?
Everyone does their best to earn merits and OP also tried his best which was to trick other people and not to do something which would help others. I think OP wasn't aware of the trust system of the forum and that's why he decided to make that post to trick those users who really don't know that their such actions could cause problems for their own accounts.

It seems like that OP is no longer offering that thing, and I believe he understood that something like that is not justifiable here and could possibly be harmful for his own account. He could get a red tag for that but I think it's a newbie type of attempt so it's better to avoid it. I'm sure he got his lesson and he won't do anything like that in future.

I saw this thread and ignored it, as I was thinking it would possibly get deleted. The Op has divided the thread into two sections, which are the off-topic and the . bitcoin discussion the one on bitcoin discussion already deleted.

It's only those who are greedy and don't know about the system who will make the mistake of sending some merit to the OP, because whatever punishment the OP gets should also be accorded to anyone who sends merit to him or her, as they are committing the same crime.

Move this to reputation board and change the title [so people can better understand the situation] as an attempt of merit buying. Regardless of whether he'll proceed with the "rewards" or not [and if he won't, it'll be a much worse case], merit buying is not allowed.

Edit: Right...?
Edit 2: Right

Thanks. Thread moved and title updated
