So I noticed that the sum of all my "accounts" do add up to the sum of what I should have, according to blockchain, but the local "breakdown" is just plain wierd -- I have a huge negative balance on the "" account and big positives on the others. This is very confusing.

I tried to import my next private key (for another address I own and manage) and ended up with similar results. The new local account had a positive value but now the "" account is even more in the negative. If I sum up all the local accounts, they do add up to what the two addresses should have, but again, the way this is being shown to me by bitcoind is very confusing.

Does anyone understand what is going on here???

So I was having some trouble with my wallet and in fact wanted to purge some "empty" local accounts.

I backed up my private keys for the accounts I wanted to keep, shut down bitcoind, deleted wallet.dat, reran bitcoind, and starting importing back my private keys, doing a rescan with each.

So the first address had 0.005 btc in it (blockchain.info confirms that).

Before importing any new addresses, listaccounts shows that I have one account... "" : 0.0

That's fine. I have nothing yet, so that makes sense.

After importing the first address?

I now have:

"" : -0.10066600
"foo": 0.10566600

What does this mean? Why does it not just show it as:

"": 0.0
"foo": 0.005

?
