So said that a personality like o_e_l_e_o is no longer here with us his threads are so inspiring and motivating, his thread has helped a lot of people in becoming what they are in this forum and even outside the forum and his generosity is much more than I can speak of, this may look like an apostrophe but I want to thank you for all you have impact in us and I look forward to find more of your interesting and informative articles.

We can not question your maker for this sudden incident but may all the good deeds, knowledge, wisdom etc you have impact in us and even people outside this forum speaks over mercy for you wherever you go and we hope to impact, be generous and even do more like you use to
do for the upcoming ones because that's what everyone who have benefited from article owes you.

That is a very kind gesture. It's been almost half a year without Leo, and the forum has felt emptier since his departure. It was truly a privilege to have conversations with him. His explanations were direct, comprehensible to a wide audience, and always constructive.

He must have influenced everyone who discussed privacy with him. He frequently advised newcomers on protecting themselves from mass surveillance (KYC, chain analysis) and enhancing their Bitcoin privacy (through mixing, coin control, running a node), and even beyond that.

I am indebted to him for the countless times he helped me by answering my questions. I wouldn't have grown so quickly in my knowledge of Bitcoin if it weren't for Bitcointalk. This is a "thank you" not just to him, but to all of you. Smiley

May he rest in peace.

It's certain to me that Leo was a low-profile man in real life. His interests spanned science (if I recall correctly, he was a doctor), math, computer science, economics, and politics--essentially, he was a very curious person. Judging by his forum posts, it's clear he was deeply concerned about how the world works and courageous enough to strive for improvement.

I don't know his age, but if I had to guess, he must have been past his thirties. This is based on the time it takes to become a doctor in the US (assuming he started Uni at around 20), plus the (perhaps a lot) additional time required to accumulate, grasp, and confidently share all that knowledge. If he was around 40, it was far too young to pass away.

To me, Leo's lesson is that we cannot truly appreciate innovations like Bitcoin without proper education. We are all Bitcoin. There is no dedicated department responsible for educating and promoting good practices to newcomers. Therefore, it is our personal responsibility to challenge misinformation, educate others, and spread the right thing to do. We are, each one of us individually, responsible for the prosperity of Bitcoin.

I have always been in your profile reading your previous posts since I joined this forum and right from the day I saw "o_e_I_e_o forever in our memories" in your profile I have always wanted to ask questions but I didn't have the courage because I thought I would get in trouble or something, right from your profile I want in search of the username and I saw his last post "fairwell" and it broke my heart for two reasons.

1; I'm human and I tend to feel pain when a fellow human is in pain

2;  he had an impact on this forum and I could see that through his threads, conversations, meaningful answers and the way other users responded on that thread.

It's a pity I/we (newbies) didn't get to meet him here on Bitcointalk but I'm very sure his legacy in this forum lives on and forever in our memories.  Thank you op for this thread, I finally got the chance to talk about o_e_I_e_o and now I feel relieved.

I can't hold back my tears reading this quote.  It is a simple word but has a lot of emotions attached to it

I accidentally saw your open topic from August 4th, and I simply have no words for how hypocritical and shameless people can be in the face of any human grief. After answering here, you rushed to open a separate topic a day later. You know, if you want to express condolences, they must be sincere. Sometimes it is better to remain silent, but it is precisely because of people like you that I would close the topic. Shocked

o_e_l_e_o left Bitcointalk in January 2024 after revealing that he had health problems. He will forever remain one of the most technically knowledgeable individuals to have ever posted on the forum.
o_e_l_e_o was a very technically knowledgeable member of this forum.  I was motivated by him in many ways. He is the highest merit earned user according to Bpip data

His top 10 favorite users were pooya87, LoyceV, BlackHatCoiner, hosseinimr93, DaveF, Pmalek, ABCbits, nc50lc, NeuroticFish, n0nce who he gave the most merit for high quality posts.

And among these 10 users Foxpup, ABCbits, BlackHatCoiner, pooya87, LoyceV, vaporminer, suchmoon, Welsh, Pmalek, NeuroticFish he gets the most merit for his high quality posts and activities.

o_e_l_e_o was a person in my favorite user list. I am sorry for his physical illness. And wish him a speedy recovery.  Technically knowledgeable users like him are much needed in this forum

I have learnt a lot from many of you, and I hope many of you have learnt something from me. Although we will never meet, I would have loved to share a beer with many of you, and I hope you'll remember me fondly.

Very sad to read this.  o_e_l_e_o helped me with a technical issue when I first joined.  I recognized his technical expertise right away, and noticed he was kind, honest, and very helpful to newcomers.  I also appreciated his dedication to keeping bitcoin private and secure.  Thank you for putting together this list of great posts.

May he rest in peace.

But in the case of o_e_l_e_o, he was well knowledgeable about bitcoin and the way he taught even the newbies with common words understandable by all amused me. He had the ability to switch mode to match whoever came his way. Such a great asset that greeted the forum for a long time.
Spot on, there are quite a lot of users that are knowledgeable on the technical aspects of bitcoin, but it is somewhat difficult to learn from the posts of many of them; except you have almost similar knowledge as them or prolly a higher one. Leo was different, you could read his post and if a similar question or discussion arises in the future, you would post correctly about it and make sense in the discussion, just based on what you read from Leo, and so many users will agree with this.
His post are often times seems like he is writing to an average joe, detailed with clear insight to the solution or problem and this is the reason many will always be more interested to read his reply on every post, he is still the best.

There's a big difference between Mr. Robert is a good geographer and Mr. Robert is a good geography teacher. Someone can be an expert in something but wouldn't know how to explain the idea to others, especially the lay man. Leo was really and asset to the forum and we all miss his presence even this day. I hope he's still okay and spending some good days with his family. Thank you for creating this thread to bring those top 100 merited posts of Leo, and I believe we all can learn something valuable from those posts.

I believe we all should wish and pray for good health and happiness of Leo as he contributed very valuable and informative posts throughout his presence on this forum. We lost an asset from this forum but that's how life works.

I believe o_e_l_e_o is still with us in the form of those posts and I wish he may get better soon, and hopefully live rest of his life happily with his family by enjoying each second of it. Leo always valued privacy as that was most important for him. Long live Leo and be happy!

I was hesitating, but felt it is ok to share a small excerpt of our PM back and forth. It was very insightful.
I am glad you didn't. o_e_l_e_o was a very private person. He probably wouldn't mind if you shared some private conversation if it's nothing revealing, but still, it's something that the other person should be asked about first. If they agree, then it's fine to share such information. At least, that's how I would handle a situation like that.

It was my last merit point. I am not too active. But I wanted to share what a fine soul o_e_l_e_o is. No distinction ever. Every question being answered. My goal was to point that out. I miss the talk. But yes, I understand you and that is why I let you guys know how I meant it.

One question though: are you a full time coding professional?
You are not the first person to assume that, and I'm sure you won't be the last. I'm always flattered, as I consider my coding skills to be amateurish at best. But no, I work as a physician. Best wishes, Leo

I was hesitating, but felt it is ok to share a small excerpt of our PM back and forth. It was very insightful.

In my eyes he is the biggest loss I have experienced in the forum so far. I sometimes am in an only read mode and there is like a handful of forum members that I like or even love to follow and read their posts. o_e_l_e_o was incredible. Sometimes I hope he still is incredible and is still around somewhere.

I am still literally shocked how he was able to convey the important things and separate them from the overload that most people would not be able to handle. He broke things down and he was willing to get people on board and not leave anybody behind ever in terms of education (and probably in terms of anything). I asked him some questions and he made sure to get to know what my level is and adapt to my level with his answers. It's terrible he is not around anymore.

Good job Pmalek!

He was an amazing modest person... Sad

And he was ever claiming he was right, but research proved he was right all of the time. I never understood where he gathered his knowledge from so quickly.

If it were possible to have a library where we can keep all his posts, it will be appreciated because his works were masterpieces and it showed he wasn't just aware of a subject, but deeply knowledgeable. I find it deeply humbling that a guy like him, with his wealth of knowledge still found out time to relate and teach those who weren't of his status. He didn't see it out of place to impart his wisdom to as many as sought him.
I may not have known him on a personal level, but I can say I was opportuned to have learnt from his numerous explanations on technically related subjects.

Its really thoughtful of you @Pmalek to have brought out these posts, even though it's to show his merited works, I still believe members can still learn a thing or two from this.

Rest on, Leo..you will be remembered!!

When I joined the forum newly, I read the name o_e_l_e_o as a mistake and as someone who should not be taken seriously. But in opening his profile to see his post count and merit count, I understood he was a genius.
o_e_l_e_o guided me as a newbie on the following;
Him, BlackHatCoiner, Little mouse and others were very helpful. The help you render to a newbie will be the most memorable help to them in the forum. The reason we should treat newbies with care.

Then, the day I read his farewell post, I started seeing the forum with some doubts that I might wake one day  and discover that everyone I know has disappeared.
There's a post in this board where Vapourminer is planning to disappear. So sad!

Thanks Pmalek for reminding us that o_e_l_e_o has gone but his legacies live.

o_e_l_e_o played a role that it would take quite a number of years before we would have someone who can replace the role he played in this community, and sometimes there are people that the role played is difficult to be replaced. It quite interesting that o_e_l_e_o being ranked in the number one position as one with the most merited post and earned merit, was indeed as a result of his good contributions to this great community which I'm among the people who admired his style of post and the knowledge he impacted here before his departure from this space.

@Pmalek you've actually done a very good job by bringing this 100 most merited posts of his and which will be serving a lot of people who will be in need of this kind of post that he dropped, now and in the future.

I met Leo and he was very good breaking down things for the layman to understanding and I don't know if we have another Leo in the community. And those who are saying they have learned from Leo should also imitate the footsteps of their mentor. And it should not be a just verbal saying. And another thing I like Leo is that was among the generous merit givers.
We need another technical knowledge like Leo though we have one such hosseinimr93 who is also knowledgeable enough to tackle some technical questions and contribute good to knowledge. Though we have more there in the wallet board. Leo we missed you. God protect you in whatever place you and heal your sickness.

I must say, this is a nice way to keep the works and memory of such a user fresh and alive. Some of his thread is very much a necessary read for most till this day.

I just went through the first on the list.
While the first was emphasizing on the popular but yet, ignored phrase “not your keys, not your coins” all though it ain’t stated in this way but rather, putting custodian wallets in front, a lot of users as evident in the out burst we find them in when events such as crashing of CEX and these CEX having to froze user account, tells you why, that should be a read.

Would be reading some more of his valued posts as listed there but until then, don’t know what his health status is after he made public his battles with health challenges but, hope he’s carrying good and family too.

It’s cool to have a piece of him here and we are blessed by the knowledge he left us. Just typing knowing how he left feels heart breaking and I’ll leave a space for the words I can’t say. ______________________________________________

Thank you for this invaluable topic Pmalek, Leo's knowledge about bitcoin was on another level and he is greatly missed on the forum, particularly considering the circumstances in which it ended. The consolation on Leo's exit is that the forum is a repertoire of bitcoin knowledge, so present and future users would still learn from Leo, even though he'd never post here again.

I'm not really convinced with the board which this post is located or maybe I'm wrong.
o_e_l_e_o was very active and, in my opinion, the best in the technical sections of our forum. Although, if you reference Ninjastic space to check which boards he mostly wrote in, you would see Bitcoin Discussion, Beginners & Help, and Meta at the top, followed by several technical boards. Since many of the posts in the list are also in the mentioned technical forums and this is generally a section with little spam, I wanted my thread to be here.
I was definitely right about the location of the post, it's more of a reputation focused thread than technical even tho a good number of Leo's post were technically oriented.

Good to see it here.

I have taken my time to read through Leo's most merited post and it was absolutely out of experience he wrote them all. I guess I have to do a whole lot of reading because I couldn't comprehend some things because I have no clue of what they are taking about.

His merits, reputation, popularity and respect is all worth it. wherever he is right now he deserves more accolades and roses 🌹

I also appreciate your efforts Pmalek for bring them out for learning purposes.

Thank you, Pmalek, for your contributions to the forum. I'm saddened by how our respected member left, and I pray for his well-being. If he's with us, may he be blessed with good health. If not, may he find peace in the after life

Despite my short time here, I've been astounded by this forum's wealth of knowledge and wisdom. It's a joy to be part of this community, and I only wish I had discovered it sooner. Sadly, such a dedicated person has left the forum. Forums are much better when dedicated people are in the forum. However, no one lives forever, and neither will I nor you; we will have to say goodbye forever, and it is hard to accept that there is nothing we can do.

Since he was very dedicated and honorable, there was no one else in the forum like him, so his last three departures have been an exciting day for this forum.

Leo might have left the forum but his contribution will live on. Glad we have access to his posts/responses and for people like me that are still starting the technical aspect of Bitcoin, it will be a rare privilege to have such resources available for free. Another good thing is that he has made a lot of people here who will be able to help those coming behind, so I believe there will be continuity in the forum and people willing to give back the same measure of knowledge they got from him. Although, learning from the source gives a different vibes, but it is unfortunate he has to leave. He will always be missed!

Although I didn't get a chance to learn from him (o_e_l_e_o). I joined this forum a few days after his chapter ended, it's very sad for me that I didn't have the chance to take advice from a wise man like him.

I have been reading some of his (o_e_l_e_o) posts for the past 2 hours trying to learn from some of his phrases. Even if he is not present among us, we can gain knowledge by studying his writings. By studying his writings, we can keep him alive in our hearts forever.

@Pmalek boss, thank you very much. To introduce a legend like him (o_e_l_e_o) to us. Those who came to this forum after he (o_e_l_e_o) passed away, may recognize @o_e_l_e_o sir from your presentation.

It was so painful to me seeing that he is no more around this forum, losing a knowledgeable and reputable member like o_e_l_e_o same as Lighter_warrior, these two soul was a something else to the forum and I believed forum will ever miss them. Back o_e_l_e_o I can also remember then going through his post on his profile gives me a lot of lift although I wasn't that technical enough to understand some of the things but it got to open my eyes through his writings including the kind of wallet i can keep holding my coin,- in all, also learned about security and privacy, words alone can't expressed the full embodiment of his knowledge towards him.

Leo once sent me a DM, saying some nice things about me. I will obviously not share the DM, but, I mean... this is one of the greatest gifts I have ever got in this forum.
We exchanged very few DMs on Bitcointalk. I saw his Farewell thread very late and by the time I contacted him for a final goodbye, he was already gone.

Also I wonder, are these truly the Top 100 based on Merits?
The list is based on DdmrDdmr's Bitcointalk Merit Dashboard. You can see a user's most merited posts from the Most Merited Posts/Threads tab. I omitted posts that were off-topic in the sense that they were not about Bitcoin or the forum. Leo had several high-merit posts in Politics & Society and Off-topic. Some were about the COVID vaccines. There is one thread he created on 1 April which was about forming a new gang based on IQ levels. I didn't include those and some others because I only wanted to fill the list with Bitcoin and forum-related posts.

I thought of it a sign of respect you didn't add his farewell post as it's too famous to be omitted.
As I said to PrivacyG, I intentionally left out certain types of posts. The Farewell thread actually has 2 posts that are in his top 100 most merited, but I didn't think it should be part of my collection.

After a few cross check which validates you spent lots of hours on this post, I was able to single out a post of O_e_l_e_o that deserves to be on this list:

New new ultimate guide to ranking up as fast as possible (MODERATOR IN 7 WEEKS)

A post he made on April fool day, basically a sarcastic way to rank up in the forum
I didn't include that either precisely for its sarcastic nature. There is nothing wrong with it, though.

Leo was incredibly an asset to the forum, the impact of his problem solving skills helped many to ascertain solutions to their problems. He was a smart brain here in this forum, he was more of problem solver than anything you can imagine in this forum. His earned merits is enough reason to justify that Leo was indeed a quality poster and a problem solving. One thing that triggered me most is the fact that he had a vast technical knowledge about things and his contributions were valid. I saw him as a superhuman.

I miss you Leo, irrespective of the time you've gone, no one has been able to fill the sport you left because of the remarkable contribution and the personality that you are. You'll continue to remain in our hearts.🕯️rest on legend

@o_e_l_e_o was truly a great man, he was very knowledgeable and active member, no one could find any mistake in any of his posts, he was like a guardian to us in this forum. Everyone could learn a lot from his post. o_e_l_e_o has made a place in the hearts of many people of this forum through his knowledge, wisdom. His contribution will be remembered forever by us. And he will always In memoriam in our hearts.

@o_e_l_e_o was the highest merit member in this forum. He has written a total of 16,673 posts and his merit number is 18,640.

@Pmalek sir, You've made a list of 100 of his most merited posts, I know it's not an easy task, it took a lot of hard work, but you've done it, thank you very much.

I am presenting o_e_l_e_o's first, second, and third time merit earning posts:

1st time merit earn post: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.29533365 Merited From: alyssa85, total merit no: 1

2nd time merit earn post: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.29867838 Merited From: Vod, mk4. total merit no: 3 (Vod, 2) (mk4, 1)

o_e_l_e_o was a very knowledgeable member on the forum and I benefited from his posts all the time. The guy was just a too good technical guy. It was as if he knew everything related to technical discussions and not just knowing them he had an experienced knowledge about it.

Infact my very first set of Merits came from o_e_l_e_o and a couple of active technical board members as he and a couple of forum members guided me on setting  up a standard air gapped device as well as the differences and dangers of  closed source and open source softwares. o_e_l_e_o I think having over 18,000 earned merit is enough to show his contributions to the forum as earning such huge amounts of Merits without actually merriting it will draw the attention of forum members negatively.

On top all of that o_e_l_e_o was quite a nice guy so painful to this space he had leave after fighting health issues for sometime. I think I wrote a Poem for him after he left Also, a +1 to you Pmalek for putting these together it will answer a couple of questions for forum members.

I believe this thread is self moderated because of kruw  Cool because when last I checked he has been , should I say o_e_l_e_o 's die hard hater Undecided
o_e_l_e_o was an expertise and a connoisseur of bitcoin technical and software related discussions, and from the way he provides answers and  solution's to technical questions you can literally conclude it gave him joy with each moment he does that.

o_e_l_e_o,  as I know was mostly giving merits to posts that dealt on technical discussion about bitcoin than anywhere else,  for it was after his departure from the forum I started contemplating, maybe it was that  he saw what the future held in front for him, because I realized that,  what he was doing was a way of encouraging and attracting more forum members to grow desire and interest in technical aspect of bitcoin discussions more than the common non-technical areas because it's obvious that the forum has a lot of members involved on the other side than in the technical.

Great thread man. Leo was a great guy, very knowledgeable and was great to communicate with too. I many times used the advanced search option and included him as the "by user" for what I was looking for, to see when he has talked about that subject and it was very helpful more often than not.

It's quite unfortunate that I didn't get the chance to have a personal experience with him on individual basis, as my account was barely few months old by January 2024 and I was still finding my way around the forum. But from the testimonies I have read about him from old members of the forum, has proven to me that he was such a good Man. A good fellow and a lover of peace who has contributed greatly to the growth of this forum. I have taken little time to go through some of his post history and of a truth he was a knowledgeable Man. There is no doubt his absence is already been felt in this forum. Strength and courage to his family and friends to keep bearing his loss, as it is clear that nobody can fill the void he has left.
Keep resting in peace o_e_l_e_o!!

Even though I am not a poster of the technical board I have known leo to be a good and active poster of the technical board.
Based on his records, I don't think he could be forgotten anytime soon because there are a lot of good post of his that has thought a lot of people things that they don't know. But let's hope that we have someone like him sooner.

You may be right about o_e_l_e_o making more of his contribution in the forum in the technical discussion board but however, your post talks more of his personality during the time he spent with us here before he left us and created a topic about he departure so I also feel that the appropriate board should be the reputation board since you are referring to his achievements in the forum.

Within the short time I got to know o_e_l_e_o,  at first i used to mistook him for the position of Theymos and I do admire his technicality in the technical board but I was just unfortunate not to have more knowledge about technical discussions in the forum. His announcement of his departure on 17th January 2024 shocked almost every one in the forum and it looks like a vacuum was created in the person of o_e_l_e_o

I am indebted to him for the countless times he helped me by answering my questions. I wouldn't have grown so quickly in my knowledge of Bitcoin if it weren't for Bitcointalk. This is a "thank you" not just to him, but to all of you. Smiley

Leo once sent me a DM, saying some nice things about me. I will obviously not share the DM, but, I mean... this is one of the greatest gifts I have ever got in this forum.
I`m quite jealous for those who knew Leo and where somewhat close to him, in as much as I always admire him and also from the fact I usually put his comment on every topic as priority since I guessed he was the most technically knowledgeable  and his post are easier to understand than others.
He is a source of inspiration to many here especially those who are often in the technical board where I ought to be quite active but sadly hasn`t been since I`m busy outside BTT this time and need to improve my knowledge.

o_e_l_e_o farewell made me realized more that is not just to earn merit but who actually send you such merit matters, after his farewell message I was really sad he was leaving especially from the fact that I didn`t think I have ever got merited from him, since he was really among the most generous merit senders not receiving from him especially from the technical board was disappointing since there is no chance to earn from which ought to be a way of consolation for me but I thank God at least I got from him in my last year participation from the pizza contest but at least I can hold on to this as a consolation for one who inspire me a lot. Funny how he made see the essence of learning more of cryptography & mathematics.

I thought this was going to be a Top 100 sorted from most Merited to least, if that is the case then I do not think it is properly sorted.  I found many of the last few have a total of 14 Merits while there are other Posts ranked higher on your list with over 14.

On the other hand, I think it will be hard to sort these considering there are people who will only now see some of these 100 Posts and decide to send their Merits toward them.

Also I wonder, are these truly the Top 100 based on Merits?  Considering the HUGE Merit count, I would think there are other Posts with even more than what you found so far.

-----

It's been almost half a year without Leo, and the forum has felt emptier since his departure.
It is for sure, I think all of us who knew him are missing him and all the discussions we had with him.  If there is one person I rarely contradicted if ever, it was him and I learned so much from his great ability of sharing his knowledge in a way so easy to understand and hard to contradict.

We fortunately do have waves of new people coming in with a great passion for Privacy, but what is truly and evidently missing is his knowledge which ranged broadly.

Love responsibility.
Say, I alone
will save the world.
If it is lost, it will be my fault.

We certainly have writers of articles everywhere, but those who are true teachers and passers of the right information are few. Even though I hadn't joined this forum before o_e_l_e_o wrote his goodbye post, his work and legacy on this forum are clearly visible to me. I took my time checking some of his listed threads, and I saw quality. I hope to still dedicate some of my free time to going through his threads to learn things that might be of benefit. Moreover, I also like referring to good articles, and I hope I will always reference o_e_l_e_o's articles not just because he was a good writer, but also a good teacher.

Pmalek, I think you've done a great job here. o_e_l_e_o will always be part of us.

o_e_l_e_o left Bitcointalk in January 2024 after revealing that he had health problems. He will forever remain one of the most technically knowledgeable individuals to have ever posted on the forum.

o_e_l_e_o has written over 16.000 posts and collected over 18.000 merits. It's difficult to single out only a few of his posts due to the general quality, logic, and technical know-how he displayed all the time. I decided to try. And for that, I used merits as the factor to create a list of 100 of his most merited posts. You can see them in the tables below. I haven't included some posts that were off-topic and/or were posted in Politics & Society.

This is only a small part of the contributions o_e_l_e_o made to Bitcointalk.

Let me know if you notice any mistakes.
