So this would allow somebody to scan your code with their new android app perhaps and pay you some BTC at that address?

Yep, that's correct. The QR code's data follows the Bitcoin URI scheme, which is what the Android app reads. The coded data is exactly the same as the ascii data next to it, for example:

This is a good idea and good way to start conversations about Bitcoin.  You should set up a basic website to sell them.

Update 2: These cards are currently no longer available due to my own time restrictions. Please feel free to contact me in any case if you're interested or have any questions. Thanks.

Update 1: These cards follow the Bitcoin URI Scheme so they should be 100% compatible with the new Bitcoin Android App and will allow you to accept payments!

Hi,

In the interest of both easily accepting bitcoin payments and also promoting the idea of bitcoin in general (to folks who don't know what it is yet), I designed and printed some simple address cards for myself. They have a large, high-error-correction QR code which contains a standard bitcoin address URI. They also have the address in plaintext in case a QR code reader isn't available (the font is machine-readable OCR-A). So far, the cards I've made have gotten a good amount of interest from people I've showed them to, sparked conversations and so forth, so I thought other people might want these with their own addresses/info on them!

If you'd like some of your own--customized with your own information of course--I'd love to make you some: 0.25 BTC for 8

These are not cards with a loaded value of bitcoins; they don't store nor incorporate private keys at all, so they don't pose any sort of wallet security risk. Think of them as promotional tools, bitcoin business cards, or just a convenient way of sharing your address with others and/or receiving payments in the real world. Most phones have cameras, and the vast majority of them can scan QR codes (iPhones can do this easily and for free).

Anyway, some details:
  • Cards are standard credit-card size, 3.37" x 2.125"
  • Printed professionally on 80lb ultra-white card stock
  • Design is vector format and laser-printed, so all lines are perfectly crisp & clean
  • The cards are laminated for durability, as well as some basic tamper-proof security
  • Sweet looking rounded corners. Snazzy!
  • Free shipping anywhere in the US! (located elsewhere? let's talk)
  • High error tolerance: the QR code can still be scanned even with a dime sitting on top of it!
  • Your own custom text on the reverse side! Anything you want, or leave it blank.

And of course, pictures!
