It is so scary to know that your private key can be tampered with. I use a normal computer with internet connection and antivirus and I have backups on 2 or 3 usb drives. I hope my private keys are not hacked.

Security solution mentioned some posts above is linux related. Is there anything for windows?

If you don't want to encounter the hassle of setting up virtual machines (and if you're not familiar with it), it's best to just clean install a new OS on a bootable pen drive (Linux distros preferably) and install just the lan drivers and browser on that OS. Afterwards, you can go ahead and create your paper wallet
I prefer to keep it offline forever, I now use a Knoppix DVD and an USB-stick with anything I need from Bitaddress.org.
If your computer has 8 GB or more, enter this when booting Knoppix:

there are countless options when it comes to Linux distributions to use. i usually suggest Ubuntu since it is the one of most famous and used Linux with the biggest community so it makes using it and finding help about it much easier.

if you want small distros then check out http://puppylinux.org/ it is designed to be small. it is 100 MB! and runs from RAM!

Wow guys, I never took such level of security. I just use my normal computer and create the wallet, that's it. I also have Avast installed, which I think it does a great job with protection. Smiley

WARNING: Velkro's signature above this post SCAMS!
Check his -8 Red Trust. This guy loves to post in boards that don't show his red trust rating to advertise his signature anyway.

You can shutdown all possibilited of internet connection on specifiec machine and then make paper wallet, never to put internet ON again on it.  It will stay safe this way.
This is also not true, if the computer is infected by malware already, it can give you a pre-created compromised private key. To be completely safe, always assume the worst case.

Hello,

It was adviced to use an offline computer to create a paper wallet.

Is it enough to have a clean computer that is deconnected for the time I create the paper wallet or do I need a computer that has never been online?

Thanks

If your computer has 8 GB or more, enter this when booting Knoppix:
Code:
knoppix64 toram
After about 15 minutes you can unplug the DVD and run completely from memory.

To be completely paranoid, type this in a console:
Code:
sudo swapoff -a             # this disables swapping
sudo ifconfig wlan0 down    # this disables Wifi
sudo ifconfig eth0 down     # this disables your primary ethernet

Direct your browser to localhost:631 to configure your printer.

when you disconnect a computer from the internet it doesn't make it clean. it just cuts the communication for as long as it remains disconnected. you may already have all kinds of malware on your computer! and they are not just keyloggers to steal your things, they may be a malware that alters the private key you generate.

to create a safe cold storage you need a "clean" computer and that is something that has never been connected or will be connected to the internet.
if you don't have an spare PC for that, just use a Live linux! download Ubuntu (it is the easiest) and burn the ISO on a DVD and boot up and create your paper wallet with your router off or disconnected.

Afterwards, you can go ahead and create your paper wallet, visit GreenAddress first and start the procedure while your machine is disconnected from the internet. Not too hard and besides, there are many tutorials in the web about this.

For greater security it is better to use a virtual Linux machine designed specifically for such actions
