I totally agree.  But I can see both sides.

On your behalf it makes a lot of sense - what's the hurry?  And you're positively correct about the fact that probably 90% of new posts by us newbies are answered elsewhere.

At the same time, I find it a little frustrating to deal with.  The reason that I got on here was to post on the site that I use to bet sports with.  I can't post in any of the help forums for the site because of the newbie restrictions.  I've won a bet that hasn't been paid to me for 12 hours now, which I assume to be a little long.  Because of these rules I have to wait until I can post enough to get my money back which I think is unfair.

Nevertheless; thank you for your input!  Now let's get membership!

Cheers,
bperls

There is an amazing thread named "NEWBIE README" pinned to the top of this forum. Go ahead and read it. We will still be here.

I hate these threads as well but they are not going away because being newbies they don't realize millions of other people have already said the same thing. I didn't bother to post outside of Newbies until I reached about 80 and couldn't see the point as I could ask everything here and I was learning loads about Bitcoins anyway. The only forum where you can speak to everyone is on Newbies so there's another advantage.

I can't believe all the posts I have seen about how much the newbie rules suck. What is everyone's big hurry? While you are waiting, why to you use the search function to see if your question has already been answered? Read some of the other threads. Update your profile. Configure your profile.

I don't like the newbie rules much but they did get me to do one thing. Contribute. Instead of lurking, asking my one question, and then lurking more I have been trying to add to the conversations on here.

Posting a new thread stating your name, location and favorite video game will help my post count but doesn't add anything to the forum. Why not join the conversation?

I don't give a shit about your favorite video game. All I care about is the $10,000 worth of Bitcoin I just lost because TorMail got shut down by the Feds, and BTC-e won't let me withdraw without clicking a link sent to my unchangeable TorMail address. I'm joining this forum as a last-ditch effort to get a hold of BTC-e.

You sir have an anger problem.

And I don't give a shit about the $10,000 worth of BTC you left in an exchange using a webmail account as your only means of identification.

And your stupid post gets you one closer to spamming every board on this forum.
