Back in the 10,000 BTC pizza days the faucets would give 1 or more bitcoins at least... good times
This was when the purpose of faucets was to help get people interested in bitcoin. Today the motive behind running a faucet is purely profit.
Exactly. Now people giving their friends bitcoins have essentially replace the Andresen style faucets. It's not about the amount of money...it's about giving people a reason to care and to go through the process of learning about Bitcoin, establishing a wallet, getting a means of purchasing & selling ฿, etc.

That said, what motivated me to do all that was far less than what I have to give away to get friends interested.

lol
If you were an early adopter and saved this BTC you're my new idol  Cheesy Cheesy

Now, you can only earn from 10 satos to 100 maybe  Grin ridiculous...
It may help to understand the system of BTC (receving coins) for newbies, but nothing else...

Are you serious? One whole bitcoin faucet? Considering you could mine 50 btc every 10 minutes using a cpu, 1 btc is not that much. I wish I knew about bitcoin earlier, it is not too late now I suppose.

Any stories where someone got a lot of BTC early in the game just from faucets?

It was 5 BTC when I first used it. I moved the funds to a mybitcoin.com wallet. They were lost forever.

There was Gavins Faucet back in the day
Before I was around but it made me a bit jealous
http://www.likelyanswer.com/328211/The-Story-Of-Gavin-Andresen-Bitcoin-Faucet-And-Clearcoin-Meet-The-Trader
Hmm noted that most were down
So just says Gavin created one that gave a full BTC back then
Around 2013 it was 0.00005 on average early in that year 0.0001

Gavin's faucet gave ฿5 away at a time. If was for educational purposes and you could put them back when you were done.

Unfortunately I wasn't around at that time but I can recall reading somewhere that Gavin himself had a faucet giving away whole BTC's.

Maybe someone can confirm this?

So was anyone around at the start here, I just have been doing this for the last 7-8 months or so, has been great fun for me!

My question is how did faucets used to work?  I know know you roughly get between 30-50 satoshis per half hour at most sites...etc.

I would like to know if at one point .01BTC were given out for faucets, or were they always like that?

Any stories where someone got a lot of BTC early in the game just from faucets?
