Omor op, you do well to carry this kind of good information come local board, this na one of the best translations wey I don see so far. Omor that very thoughtful of 1miau to create this kind of thread, omor I been no know important old wallets and seed phrase fit be until I meet this post. Normally we know say if Dem send you coin for wallet wey you no get seed phrase to, that one mean say your coin don go be that, there is no way you can retrieve it back. Thank God say I never throw away any of my old wallet mnemonic seed before this update come oo.

Maybe some plenty reasons fit de sef for why you go need keep your old addresses wey dey valid but we no go talk am here for now. If you know say you get some wey dey free make you share am for here.  Smiley
Another one to consider is from the fact that in the bitcoin network, there are different types of wallet of address, if the sender wallet only allows your previous wallet address he/she may have no other option than to send to the older address

Reasons go fit de wey go say make you no keep your old keys, for example now if you no throw away your old key or destroy am and person wey dey do bad thing E enter their hand, for example now Dem go dey use your account for signing from your address, but if you consider that kind matter say e no too dey Important compared to why you suppose keep your old keys address.
The chances of this happening is still quite slim if especially when it is not stored online and there will still be a consideration of keeping it safe since you are not totally discarding it in fact while this risk stands the benefits are still more but with time more older keys may be discarded to avoid missing them up

Thank you for bringing this to our notice for our cabal here. Something happened to me recently and e dey related to this your thread wey you translate. E get one of my wallet wey dey compromise sometimes back and I decide to do away with it and create a new wallet but normally I no be the type wey dey throwaway things easily. So even as I no dey use the wallet again, I still get the private keys. One project like that since last year run the rewards for the community and na that wallet I submitted but na just recently dem pay that rewards.

As I see the announcement for their telegram group, Omo I wan craze because the amount go cover some areas of expenses for me. I immediately remember and begin dey check where I dey keep my stuffs and luckily, I jam the keys and I import the wallet to access the funds received. So, imagine I don throwaway the keys just because I no dey use the wallet again. Na so I go just lose that coins like play.

Dis na better advice na im you carry can so, wey de very relevant for people wey get old wallet addresses wey dem don share give many people, you fit give person wey hold your old address, carry di new one give am, and di person fit want to send coins to you, come make mistake go send coins enter di old one. If dat kind thing go happen, and you don troway di password and seed phrase, na im be say di coins don lost forever be dat, so your talk make sense. Although if na very few people hold your address, e go de easy to call and inform dem to discard di old address, in dat case you fit to dispose di seed phrase if you like, because e no too de easy to still de hide wetin you no need again.

My guy, no reason am like that ooo e no go cost you anything to keep those keys even if you no use them again. Read my comment above and see how things dey sup sometimes. Again, you no fit remember all the people wey you share your wallet with in order to remind them of the changes. If na airdrop, you no go get the chance to change address.

Recently, one of my customers want to send me money. Although no be crypto but the case dey similar sha. Mind you, I already share my both accounts with them (Opay and first bank) and unfortunately I con lost access to my sim attached to my Opay account and inform all my customers to stop using Opay for any payment henceforth until further notice but unfortunately this particular customer send money to my Opay account after he try to send it to first bank but network no good. Imagine the scenario and relate it to this thread. If na crypto wallet and I still have the keys, there's no need to be panic. I go just advise us to keep everything safe as Op suggested in this thread.

Na good thing and Dem dey always talk am say to dey keep old key and no dey throw away am na something wey dey advisable to dey consider.
Na good update you just yan here @ Chilwell, about the importance of always  keeping the private key and Seed phrase of our old Bitcoin wallet safe and secure, even when not in use over a long while, rather than throw it away and regretting when been pressed by any of the above mentioned scenario out-listed by O.P. Hence, I urge all newbies to be cautious as they strive to make security of their fund their top priority. While another security tip that shouldn't be taking for granted goes to exchange user, whereby before asking anybody to send you a coin, always endeavor to cross-check your wallet address to be sure it's the same as the one you used the previous, as most times exchange do change its wallet addresses, just like Remitano did sometime around May/June this year 2023

Surely, you still get some old cryptocurrency keys / seeds wey you don already use am and E be like say you no need am anymore, so you con dey consider to throw way them. if na so, Abeg wait!

Some reason why you fit later regret say you throw away your old addresses, private keys, seed words, or similar tins wey u no fit undo:

  • f you don ever give your address to another person make e use am take send you transactions of cryptocurrency for your address, E fit make am say these people fit dey assume say you still get access to your address and dey fit dey send you some coins AGAIN (for any reason). because of some misunderstanding, Dem go con send cryptocurrencies to old address and you no go fit access am again because you no get the key again.
  • if you don send some cryptocurrency go that kind old address you don do your yourself accident, you no go fit get access to am again, because say you no fit get your private keys again.
  • Even if you don enter your address for any site/platform for regular payout address, any cryptocurrencies wey dem send to that address go lost.
  • E fit even dey possible self say an airdrop wey Dem fit do for all address wey dey hold certain amount of coins at time x. if you no get access to your wallet again, you no go fit get access and you no go fit sell that type of airdrop coins.
  • if Dem use your address to take create signature's, for example now for your Bitcointalk account, you go also lose all your possible items to take verify say na you get am wey you go create new signature from your address. All the signature wey dey don generate from that your address go de useless. In general you no fit prove am say na you get the address.
  • Make you no forget: even if you consider say your (remaining) crypto currencies wey dey your address say dey get low value, I go still keep my address in case say your coins go com rise in value. Applies to Bitcoin as well as Shitcoins.

Maybe some plenty reasons fit de sef for why you go need keep your old addresses wey dey valid but we no go talk am here for now. If you know say you get some wey dey free make you share am for here.  Smiley
