Sounds like you were using MultiBit "Classic"... and not MultiBit "HD"... The downloads for MultiBit "Classic" are still available on the MultiBit website here: https://www.multibit.org/release-info/classic/v0.5.19.html

Try installing that and opening your wallet. If you can indeed re-open your wallet using MBC... I'd suggest that you follow this video to migrate to Electrum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaijbTcxsv8

NOTE: If you happen to have MultiBit HD (with the "wallet words"), then you want this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-KcY6KUVnY

Yes, I used to use the 'old' version, and upgraded to the 'new' version, I then had less control of the wallet / coins, just export the nmonic and use, another wallet where you can import, like, Electrum...

I'm sorry what does that mean?

I have saved the "key-backup" "rolling-backup" "wallet-backup" folders.

How should I proceed?

In which way can you not open your original Multibit wallet? Multibit is a PITA, I have moved to Electrum now, but anyway, let me know and I will try to help you.
