I was just going to say about how the first PC I owned cost £500 - it had a 100MHz processor, 4MB RAM and a 300MB hard drive...

No space for the current block chain.

Look closely at this pair of socks, son.  Yep, time was you could buy stuff like this....

I didn't buy much of anything with my bitcoins, because every day I woke up and looked at the charts my bitcoins were worth more than the day before!  It was great! For the economy as a whole lower demand lead to lower production lead to lower wages lead to widespread depression.  Wage earners that wouldn't accept wage reductions (in nominal terms) were laid off by the millions.  Employers didn't have a choice because, of course, they could not pay the equivalent of ten thousand dollars an hour.  But I had my bitcoins!  Still do too.  Someday I will spend some bitcoins if I can find something to buy with them.

—Dear grandson, look closely at this pair of socks.
—What's up with them, grandpa?
—They cost me one point four bitcoins.
—YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!! THAT'S MY YEARLY SALARY!!
—Don't believe me? This was black friday 2012. Look, the invoice.
—Sure! You just made it up! Can't you see it's not signed? And what's this "bitpay" thing?

It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye
When I first heard about bitcoins, it cost a WHOLE bitcoin for a candybar Smiley

I don't suppose anybody wants to buy a candybar from me for a bitcoin now?

Someday we are going to tell our grandkids we lost a bitcoin from being careless, and it will blow their minds.

Back in MY day, we didn't have all those fancy 0's in front of prices like you do today. We didn't have nothin' like mili, or micro. We just called it Bitcoin, and weeeeee liked it!

My first floppy disk drive cost my parents around 80000 spanish pesetas, which is 480€, US$680 at current rate.

is it fair to count the impuesto?

No one discounted impuestos/taxes in this thread. Why should I?

i suppose.

that 100% protectionist hit always struck me as being entirely outside the box though.  not that i didn't love spain beyond my ability to express - a wonderful place...

They would bitch about how much wages decreased, and how little currency they could get from selling products or services.  Old people will always find something to bitch about Smiley

Not only pc's, my first cell phone could send sms and I could call someone, had storage space for 10 sms's and 20 numbers and costed as much as the Android phone I have now, which has a 1GHZ dual core processor, 512MB dual channel memory, 8GB internal memory and expandable with a microsd, 3D camera which shoots 720p 3d movies or 1080p 2d movies, I can plug it on my tv with a hdmi cable, have a shitload of apps I can download, check my mails, 3d screen, etc ...ow and I can still call and text someone. Price is still the same so I get a lot more for the same price, even if I would take deflation in the equation, I still get more phone for the same money these days. Wink

Same with cars, tv's, printers,...
Lot's of things get cheaper or at least you get more for the same amount, so with or without bitcoin, we probably won't reminiscing how cheap everything was when we are old, at least not with electronics or things that are packed with electronics.

How exactly will Grand Parents bitch about the hardships of their youth with a deflationary currency. "The more I spend the cheaper things get"
Well you don't need to be that old to remember when RAM was something like $50 per MB!
You kids...
