That is how war works, specially when we talk about conflicts in the middle east. The United States wants to continue to be the most important ally of the State of Israel and Israel needs those weapons supplied by the USA, but at the same time the USA needs to keep their image of a country which alledgedly cares of the human rights of the Palestinian people kept hostage within the Gaza strip for years, it is a contradiction but they are willing to try to make it work for the sake of their alliance and not completely give up their image of police of the world and always having the highest moral ground when comes to geopolitics.
The United Nations will continue to ignore such contradiction/oximoron as long as they can, they also want Palestinian to be well-fed while at the same time they do not say anything when the high number of "collateral damage" is awkwardly higher than expected...
