Have you guys seen this tweet?

Is he insane or can we actually see BTC rise to $1M by 2020?
I personally tend to think it's quite unlikely due to known bitcoin limitations and the amount of people already invested but i will be happy to hear the alternative opinions.
Thoughts?

Dude is a sheister, has been his entire life, his antivirus software was crapware, or in better terms it was bloatshitware. No this fool has no credibility to me, if Bitcoin does rise to the numbers he says I would not be surprised because Bitcoin itself has risen to those levels, NOT because of anything John McAfee says. He has a history of hitching his wagon to the latest and greatest. If you got a few minutes, I’ll tell you how I really feel.
And who says that “ I’ll eat my d*** if wrong”

Would anyone still hold bitcoin if it was 1 million dollar each?

Also do you guys think bitcoin doubling every year in price is going to be plausible?  Would most bitcoin owners be happy of this?  Of course those that own a lot of btc must be very happy but if btc went up this much already, aren't it going to disappoint users when it only 3x every year etc?

I think $1M/coin is potentially possible by 2030-ish

Yet it only took BTC 4.5 years to make x100.

The guy is crazy because, for something like that to be realistic, you need a MASSIVELY restricted supply or a MASSIVE amount of money to push it anywhere close to the $1M level. Either one could have disastrous consequences if they quit out and could crash the market completely, but that's assuming that they even get to that place first.

I think $1M/coin is potentially possible by 2030-ish, assuming that the market continues on similar trends. You'd essentially need a decade of Bitcoin going up by $10k/year to hit $100k/coin, you still need 10x that to get to $1M/coin. It is possible that, if companies begin to get heavily involved, that process would be sped up considerably.

He is a crazy dog, but in a special kind a visionary. Except his software company most things in his life failed. I wont take his tweet so seriously.

Well, we can not say he's insane due to happen in the last halving when bitcoin make ridiculous increase from $600- $1500 price range back then if I could remember. There's possible that bitcoin will reach f digit before the end of the year 2020.

This one is a funny tracker:

https://diegorod.github.io/WillMcAfeeEatHisOwnDick/

Currently due to the price jump (and the fact that the final price is calculated in exponential growth) he is still safe.
But I still doubt both the price reaching the target and him eating his own "pride".

well a couple of years ago when they first said bitcoin is heading towards $10,000 nobody believed it. there are actually topics here asking when will bitcoin be worth that much and most people say 2020 or never or something crazy like that.

Oh there where, the 300 000 / BTC prediction is a famous one.

We all hodler hope that it will reach $1m  But come on! we need to be realistic. There is limit to everything.  It may hit $1m in future but not by 2020. It is just impossible..   Shocked

can it be 1 million? yes. it may take some time but it will get there too. we need to start using Satoshi as the unit of measurement for bitcoin not 1 whole bitcoin.

I agree that using the satoshi as the the unit for measurement would give bitcoin a more currency like feeling.
but the question here is, do we still see bitcoin as a currency or as an investment asset "digital gold"

For example, if I would spend 35 satoshis in an online shop, would this make sense if you take the current transaction fees into account ?

If the price doubles every year, it would reach $20,000 by the end of 2018; $40,000 by the end of 2019; and $80,000 by the end of 2020. That to me seems more realistic.  We have to also remember that there are going to be price corrections through this period to keep the price from rising too high.

Meanwhile it's not only doubled but multiplied by 10 this year and there's still one more month to go Wink

That’s unrealistic in my opinion. I’ve said in the past that I think the price of Bitcoin could double each year going forward which sounds really good to me but is very conservative compared to some predictions.

If the price doubles every year, it would reach $20,000 by the end of 2018; $40,000 by the end of 2019; and $80,000 by the end of 2020. That to me seems more realistic.  We have to also remember that there are going to be price corrections through this period to keep the price from rising too high.

Why not both? Grin

I already doubt that USD 500k,- is ever going to happen, since I simply can't for the love of me imagine the global Bitcoin supply becoming worth more than all the gold in the world. Now if hyperinflation hits, that's a whole different beast of course, but as is... nah, I don't think so.

I personally tend to think it's quite unlikely due to known bitcoin limitations and the amount of people already invested but i will be happy to hear the alternative opinions.

It's not impossible, but HIGHLY unlikely. Let's look at some facts:

Bitcoin's supply will be approximately 18 million in 2020.
If Bitcoin's price is $1,000,000 per coin, Bitcoin's market cap would be $18 Trillion.
The global GDP will be around $93.5 Trillion in 2020, according to Statistica.

That means that almost 20% of the global GDP will be put into Bitcoin. You see this happening anytime soon? I don't.
It's likely that a cryptocurrency will be used worldwide, by everyone. Will it be Bitcoin? Probably not.

Bitcoin is popular right now, because if you say "blockchain", everyone immediately says "bitcoin" and not "Could provide some significant advantages for the survival of our species if we were to integrate it in our future technology". Why? Because the vast majority of the human race isn't very intelligent.
People want to make some quick profits. People aren't investing in Bitcoin because they have studied the Bitcoin technology for multiple years and have come to the conclusion that it is a very useful technology. They are investing in Bitcoin because they think it can give them some quick profits, without thinking very well about it.

Most people don't want to hear it, but Bitcoin is in some sort of a bubble now, but it's not really like the bubbles that we've experienced in the past, like the Tulip Mania. This bubble is gonna collapse, but no one knows when. It's probably gonna last a couple more years until it's collapsing. In these years, it could break the 1-milliondollar-milestone.

Bitcoin's current value is not very accurate. It's not that widely used that it's worth $10,000 per Bitcoin. Bitcoin has to undergo some serious renovations to fix issues like Transaction Fees & Durations, or we simply switch to an other cryptocurrency. I think the latter will occur, which will turn Bitcoin into a "Collector's Item", as it's the original. No one knows what that collector's item will be worth, but I'd recommend waiting a couple decades before selling your's, so a lot of Bitcoins have been lost, never to be found again.

Anyways, he's either insane or he is trying to trick people into buying more Bitcoin & Holding them for longer, so he can make more money by trading it.

But who knows... Maybe Bitcoin actually reaches 20% of our global GDP by 2020... It's all possible! That's the magical world of Cryptocurrencies!  Cheesy

UPDATE1: New models suggest that the US dollar might cope with serious inflation. When the US dollar loses 50% of its value, Bitcoin automatically grows 100% in its value compared to USD. Inflation might just do it as well  Smiley

But I don't take it to serious. I would like to see an explanation of his "model" however.

Below a more in depth article that will also wan't to make you HODL your bitcoin.
A long read, but definitely worth it.

I hope so too Cheesy
But it seems quite unlikely for the bitcoin to make x100 in the next two years because there are too many people know about it or already invested and it feels more like the bubble peak than just the beginning.
