I'm a big fan of Ubuntu but the phone left me feeling unimpressed with both features and design from the video I saw. So is the Ubuntu phone not actually being made now?
They are developing the software, and I think they have agreements with a few mobile phone companies. So I think it's being done!

Cool. I need to get a new phone and I don't really want to shell out £500+ for one so one of these might be more my price range. Do any of these have mini-sd slots? I want one so I can put all my music on.
I have no idea on the price range of if the phones will have an mini-sd slot, but these are the companies I think: http://insights.ubuntu.com/news/press-releases/canonical-announces-first-partners-to-ship-ubuntu-phones-around-the-globe/

Otherwise you could install Ubuntu on something that comes pre-installed with Android and has a mini-sd slot!
As long as the phone can be rooted and bootloader unlocked you can, (you can pretty much install anything as long as the drivers are available) sometimes it is not the case especially with Samsung phones nowadays

Not having GPS would be a killer no-go for me.  Why would they not include GPS?

Specs from the Verge:
http://www.theverge.com/products/compare/7681/7422/7440/7683
I have just realized this too. This is also a no-go for me. I travel a lot, to big cities, and sometimes I go to the mountains and such (alone). I often rely on GPS to not get lost. It really makes no sense not to include it, I'm sure that it doesn't cost a lot for them to add it to the phone.

Have you seen Ubuntu Edge? (but I cannot find a way to buy it now ...)

I have read about it, the phone itself is quite ugly. I would rather install ubuntu on my smartphone myself.
Android is perfectly fine, but Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony are ruining the android experience with their heavy skins on top of android.

I will definitely play with ubuntu once it possible to install.

Ugly? Cheesy

If you guys are referring to the OnePlus One for not having GPS, then you're wrong. According to the official website it does have GPS Smiley

Damn I missed that info before Smiley Indeed it hasn't got GPS! Smiley
I must say in the city Google Maps works great with only Internet connected to it but if you want to use it as a navigation and / or outside the city, indeed GPS is something that good SmartPhone must have.
+ GPS makes your phone more secure Tongue

My 70eur gigabyte smartphone has gps also .. i bought it as a car/walk navigation, I use IGO and I am totally satisfied. Lot of music for low money Wink  Roll Eyes

HTC Skin is one of the lightest available outthere right now (it was heavy especialy Sense 3) Samsung and LG are competing to see who's going to have the most of software gimmicks on the devices and filling them with bloatware, Sonys UI is relatively clean, if I have one complaint with Sony software is the slow updates

Btw for those looking for cheap smartphones for their prepaid plans, Wikoo and Archos (french brands) makes some nice devices at the entry level (don't expect a iPhone 5S equivalent but for the price they are pretty good)

High end smartphones are always available at Aliexpress, DinoDirect, Taobao and so on ... This one or fairly equivalent will be available too. Buying directly from Chinese brands and websites is amazing, but sometimes hard. I was unable to buy a software radio at $45 from Chinese person directly and had to pay $75 on ebay. Other devices, the same. Always issues with payment methods

More on topic, thanks for this thread and suggestion.

Blu Products also makes budget friendly smart phones.  I like the styling and design a little better and they have several models to choose from.

I am sure these new and already existing companies that are releasing very fair priced high end smartphones are on a moment going to force Apple and Samsung, HTC, Sony to come down in price quite a bit.

Cheaper smartphones are becomming very popular since their specs are the same/better than the current flagship devices.

Here iPhone 5S 16GB cost €699 that's around $960 !!! and then there is the iPhone 5C 8GB at €549 which is $750 !!

One + One, is a good phone with good value for money, and like the Nexus 5 One plus isn't making money from it, now that's said, I doubt the experience is as refined as on lets say an HTC One, the built quality and feel isn't to begin with.

But anyways if the software is good enough, this phone could be a great alternative for those with a limited budget, the only thing is that you need to be invited to be able to buy one, which anyways mean that supplies are so damn low

At the moment you need to be invited to get your hands on one, but not long after that you will be able to buy it from the stores in your country.

It runs Android v 4.4.2 with custom cyanogenmod 11s

There is a quick look video on youtube where a famous tech reviewer compare the OnePlus one with the Galaxy S5 and Oppo smartphone.

Search for oneplus one in youtube, and you will see the video from Android Authority popping up.

I know and I've already soon those. When I talk about about software refinement, i mean the small things, the transitions, the lagless feel ect, we shall see the full reviews from reviewers that uses the phone for more than a week as a daily driver of the device and then I might be interested in one

I have some gigabite shit for 70 euros ... I do not use it as cellphone, but only as a car/walk navigation, and I am satisfied.

I would never buy smartphone for a cell phone, I realldy dont understand people who do Wink .. I need to call, send sms, have alert on my phone, thats all ..

and yes .. also light Tongue when I m stucked in dark I am worried about ghosts .. so i turn on my light  Roll Eyes

I don't like smartphones either (and I am addicted to internet and online stuff). I have basic old school cellphone without internet functionality.
All I need is make a call from time to time, I don't even send sms. Maybe in the future when I will have spare money I will consider buying smartphone.

OnePlus is the name of that smartphone? If yes never heard of this smartphone but for $350 you could buy something more popular from samsung, HTC, sonny the specs aren't much different really you can identify It just by price like Camera MP and other. If you're not into small details about phone.

This could actually make it possible for even more people to own a smartphone. And if it's good I'd totally consider that to be my next phone (I'd probably install Ubuntu on it though. If there's a stable version available of course)!

You can instal ubuntu on a phone?
They're currently developing it. It's not stable yet though!
http://www.ubuntu.com/phone

When is it being released?
I don't think they've set a date yet, but if you want updates you can add your email address to their mailing list: http://www.ubuntu.com/phone/register
