We're finally getting close to the first release. Took a bit longer than expected as we had to build some plugins from scratch to avoid any trade-offs.

Happy to announce a working demo of the Beta is now live on our website.

Check it out at onionbazaar.org

Is this project related to DeepOnion project?

They use also Tor, would the team of this project create a partnership with them?

We have no affiliations with any cryptocurrency, but plan to integrate whatever coin or payment provider is suitable. OnionBazaar Store v0.1 has Bitcoin and Paypal support, next on the list is Monero and Ethereum/ERC20. You can also install additional payment gateways from the Wordpress Plugin Directory.

Yes as it has already been answered, our motive is primarily developing useful software and less about profits. Would be good if we can cover expenses and bug bounties through donations, although we have low overhead and intend to keep things going no matter what. We might add revenue streams later on, but only for nonessential stuff like installation service or premium support. All software will always be free and the setup guide is easy to follow even for non-technical people.

Ah yes, I really am a n00b. Woocommerce I've definitely seen a lot of. I still really think that if we could do a Bitcoin marketplace that actually looked nice and not like a different version of Craigslist, it would attract a lot more people. I'm all for function over aesthetics but I kind of wince every time I have to show someone what a marketplace or even a P2P platform looks like. Just throws them off.

Ping us when beta's ready.

Call me a n00b but I've actually never experienced a Wordpress commerce site

Pretty sure you did, Woocommerce is the most common e-commerce software actually.

I've been asking around actually for someone to do something like a mashup between a pure Wordpress blog post style shopping page but with possible embed widgets to do very simply addons like even parallax (like shorthand).

Since I can't see the demo right now, is this your vision or have I gotten it all wrong?

Yes since OnionBazaar is built on Wordpress, you can extend it with the thousands of available addons, and there are plenty of tutorials on how to develop your own.

Bitcoin marketplaces have yet to attain the aesthetics that would really help people come onboard, IMO.

I am just curious.
If the platform is 100% free, how do you guys then earn from the project?

I must say that I'm a bit skeptical though. They're trying to achieve exactly what OpenBazaar is offering.

You're right we have very similar goals as OpenBazaar, but take a different approach design-wise. OnionBazaar Stores are built on Woocommerce, we explain why in our FAQ: https://onionbazaar.org/?p=faq&t=wordpress

We don't really see OB as competition, as multiple protocols and implementations increase decentralization and resiliency of sovereign trade in general. Bitcoin at its current stage is far from being zero-sum, 99% of todays commerce uses permissioned payment providers and is mostly trading on centralized marketplaces. We believe increased crypto adoption and interoperability between different systems is the way to go and beneficial for everybody.

You use TOR, right?

Is it possible to finance daily works (staff or employees) from the donation?

Just like every open source project, volunteers (the community) will take over the development. He won't need to pay anyone.

It cannot be accessed, buddy?  Huh

That's because it's not running yet. It says it will be launched soon: https://demo.onionbazaar.org/

I must say that I'm a bit skeptical though. They're trying to achieve exactly what OpenBazaar is offering. I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a fork of the original platform with some small tweaks.

Dunno. Ask them.

My answer was just merely suggesting that they probably don't focus on economic gains for this project.

They accept a donation.
Is it possible to finance daily works (staff or employees) from the donation?

It is possible that the developers themselves fund the project (which means they've multiple jobs).
You may be correct. But I don't think they will do it for lasting. They just waste money (funds) if they plan it continuously. I suspect this is just applied at the beginning, then it will change after running for months.

OnionBazaar is 100% free, as in every meaning of the word. Free to use, free to modify, free to redistribute. There are no fees or paid subscriptions, all code is open-source and available for anyone to use

How do you make it survive with other competitors around because i know there has to be some maintenance and improvements on the platform which requires money to keep it in competition with others.
