Hi Guys,
Pretty new to this forum but I like it already.
Since I've notice that there's a lot of knowledge within the members I would like to ask you for an opinion on what online backup solution you'd recommend for me. I would like to have a backup apart from the one I have in my house so in case a break in or a fire there would be a way to retrieve them.

I think I would need 2-4 TB of room since my wife's pics or on there as well. Do I have to say that it needs to be very secure and and to heavy on my wallet Smiley

AJ

I think facebook is not bad you can try it

Or have you heard...Google can help you search for things and you can order stuff from Amazon. Sorry i had to.

I use Blackblaze as my backup solution, in part.

What I actually do is use my server to rsync all my laptops and desktops once a day, encrypt it, and then I have Blackblaze set up on the server to sync that data. In effect I am only paying for one computer instead of 7 as Blackblaze charges per computer and not according to how much data you have.

It's worth it because I have a 100/100 unmetered upload connection and Blackblaze is only 5USD/month. They'll also send me a couple HDDs with my data if I request and pay for it.

I recommend it if you have similar needs and can do something like my setup.

SOS looks ok. Take the test drive and make sure upload and download speeds are FAST. Its going to take a longgggg time uploading 4 TBs.

You will want to encrypt anything sensitive before you upload it. Don't trust the provider.

Not something I would do but good luck to you.

Guys,
I have been looking around for the past couple of days and I think I'll jump up on SOS Online bandwagon.
Before I do any thoughts?

you want free or pay online backup solution?

for free the best i can find is the current new "mega" 50gb, ofc is not what you want but you can always create 100 accounts xD

Paid is OK. 100 accounts of mega is a little bit over the top  Grin

Oh and forgot to mention that FreeNas and openfiler with btsync (the bittorrent cloud like syncing app) are cool tools as well. I ending up just going fedora like option for my nas but freenas and btsync work well together. https://www.getsync.com/

Thanks seem interesting as well Wink

2-4tb of your Wife's pics? Sure  Roll Eyes  Tongue. Just get a 4tb drive and keep it with a friend or family member, but maybe you don't want them seeing your massively impressive porn collection?  Grin 4tb drives cost a little over £100 in the UK and you can get 'em cheaper in the US and I would rather keep them myself than trust a cloud site with them. You could also get a blu-ray burner and burn them to them instead. Think they hold about 25gb per disc.

Haha, that's a good one.
I work at a AD Agency so there’s a lot of my work as well as commercial videos in raw format. My wife's a photographer as well as both our computers need backup regularly. But you're right I could buy another NAS and have it mirrored at some of my folks.

Thanks for the tip please.

Yeah, just go with an external drive. Back up stuff to blu rays as well so you're double protected or buy an additional drive to back up. You'll be glad you did if one ever dies on you.

Post some pics of your wife.  Grin

Haha. You signed up just to post that?

Office 365 Personal give you 1TB per user so if you need Office as well that might work 6.99 per month. https://products.office.com/en-us/compare-microsoft-office-products

I have tons of raw pics and vids of the kids and use google+ and local storage solutions for back up. I couple 4TB seems the most economical way to go.

Quite interesting I'll check it out. Thanks.
