At least this guy has some decency and targeted black market users and not normal online wallet or exchange users.

I wonder if police will seize bitcoin he stole and arrange auction for it like they used to do in the past...

I don't agree with this, just because they use the darknet (TOR) means that they are bad people.
OK, you could argue that buying something from a darknetmarket is illegal, but I'm sure that there are also people using it for legitimate uses.

Maybe for buying prescription meds that they cannot afford otherwise, I've read some stories about this, not sure if they were true.
Or even medical cannabis for people who really need it, but can't source it through other means.
I personally don't think that someone suffering from Parkinsons should be blamed for trying to buy something to give him relief from all the symptoms, even if it is illegal.

Dealing over darknet is always riskier as it is very lucrative way for hackers as well as ponzi runners to run away easily after stealing bitcoin without revealing their idendity. I was quite suprised how this guy got arrested as tracking bitcoin transaction is completely impossible if the hacker himself doesn't make foolish moves. And as remembering darknet url address is quite hard so that it may be easier for him to just clone the site login page and the one who put login details doesn't care about the URL address they are viewing and consider them as real.

After a complaint to police, Wallingford, Connecticut resident Michael Rocho was arrested last week on multiple charges related to an online phishing scheme he allegedly launched against Dark Web accounts to steal bitcoin credit, announced the US Department of Justice.

I do not know if the police want to process the cases of bitcoin, while they do not know what it was and I bitcoin their countries forbid the use of bitcoin. I never deceived with bitcoin and I report to the police about bitcoin, and police did not process it because there are no laws regarding virtual money
That's right, the vague of the regulating about it can made the police are not wanna for processing the cases of bitcoin, and i think a lot of people are can't do anything if got a scam or another criminal with bticoin.

The story needs to continue.... after he was released he was pulled into a black SUV and taken to the head quarters of the NSA, where

they offered him a job.  Grin Grin Grin ... I fail to feel sorry for the victims of these phishing scams. What were they buying in the dark web?

Dark web users being such idiots ? Well sometimes those people want so bad to buy what they need that they don't care which links are clicking. Totally the users fault and is strange how come he is innocent until proven guilty in court. Did he maybe mixed his coins ? This story really needs to continue to show us the real ending.

Lesson from this thread for dark and non dark web users: Never click any suspicious link no matter where they come from.

But, i'm more curious about the fact that police found more than 10,000 credentials saved on scammers computer, i wonder if police could find/arrest more user who use marketplace at darknet Roll Eyes

I don't think dark web users are such idiots to use their real emails or credentials so nothing to find for the police in such case.
Oh you'd be surprised of how far humanities stupidity will go.
Because they use dark web things in the first place just goes to shows you that. Roll Eyes

I find it interesting that people that understand bitcoin can also have a unfavourable thinking on the darknet setup.
They both achieve a similar goal and to put ones nose up is to not fully grasp what bitcoin is able to achieve outside the limits.

The lines often blur when you having any vigilante activity and money is involved.

That's what They want you to think. These people are light years ahead of the average pothead. If they want to find you they will and something like this is a handy fillip.

" When arrested, the man had around 10,000 credentials saved on his computer. "  - It seams that there are indeed a ton of idiots there, and them being a part of dark web
doesn't mean they are inteligent either.

Don't know how they can say that there are no "clear evidence of guilt" if they found 10k credencials on his PC, and there is a clear link between his wallet and those accounts, and
his own bank account on the end line..

I think that people in the dark net, knows better the security measures needed there to make their identity safe. There are a lot of websites which shows us how to be safe when using TOR browser. I have personally talk with a few friends in the police and they have said to me , they cannot crush TOR or find any user which has taken the appropriate steps for securing their identity. They were successful a few times with people that really didn't know what they were doing and police just interrogated them.

It takes too much time for me to write the security tips but am leaving a website here for anyone to check.

The 11 do and don't which any TOR user should know (most of TOR users know, but newbies here may find this article very useful)
