As users suggested giving a clear data regarding the research will give you the cent percent support from the users from the forum. Just initiating a survey and mentioning nothing about the same will make users think you to be a untrusted user, as you're new to the forum.

Can you explain more about your survey research? To ensure all members that your survey isn't FUD or anything like that.
