BTC could become the de facto currency, because it stood the test of time. {Since 2009} and also because it's got the highest retail adoption.

But Alt currencies, would be the "Pound" / "Dirham" / "Peso" / "Euro" like in fiat today.

Many countries might even develop or adopt their own crypto currency, in my opinion.

It's just another vehicle for people to do transactions. {We evolved into the digital era now, and we need a currency, to evolve with us} Fiat currency will also still exist, in 3rd world countries, with poor infrastructure, you will still have fiat currency. {Even today, people trade with good and live stock, and we had fiat currency for many years}

So all that talk of one currency, in my opinion, is just a pipe dream. Roll Eyes

due to bitcoin, is it possible that there is only one currency in the future? please show your comments. thanks

I guess having only one currency is a very unflexible setting causing problems with inflation etc. Look i.e. at the euro integration in Europe. Having the same currency in 25 countries leads to problems since the exchange and interest rates need to adapt to economic developments in each country. Furthermore a similar tax system would be needed.

Highly unlikely imho.  I suspect that sooner or later most fiat will lose it's value fairly quickly in most countries in coming years.  Hard assets and crypto's seem to be where it's at.  As far as there only being one?  Seriously doubt that as well.  I suspect we will have half a dozen or so relatively stable coins focused on specific feature-set's, services, markets, etc.

What do you guys make of the conspiracy theory that Bitcoin was actually developed by Big Government in order to get us all used to using a digital currency that could eventually have every single transaction we make tracked and subsequently taxed?

Personally I am torn, half of me things that is crazy but the other half knows that the elite of the world could certainly be capable of pulling something like this off!

You have to assume that a goverment can actually do IT. Between healthcare.gov and the "loss" of IRS e-mails I am not sure they could even run a turnkey exchange.

You can see that it is already possible , becasue of BTC lingua franca role ( please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingua_franca)
Right now it is the bridge between the others Alt coins so you can already say that it is a currency that connects all others Smiley

No country will be willing to give up their authority to regulate their own currency willingly.

Montenegro and Kosovo both unilaterally adopted the Euro in 2002; neither are EU members at present. For that matter, the Eurozone countries have given up their authority to regulate their own currency - though I suppose it's possible to argue that the decisions weren't necessarily made willingly.

Currency substitution is fairly common, particularly with the US dollar. There are less cases of full currency substitution (full legal tender, no domestic bank notes), but they do exist - mostly in Central and South America and the Pacific. The Caribbean Netherlands adopted USD in 2010 or 2011 IIRC, and Panama has used USD since the early 20th century (though I believe they use their own coins).

in an ideal world yes, but not here. there is too much history between countrys to allow such a project of 1 currency.
bitcoin makes it theoreticaly possible, but human nature makes it impossible.

another example of how stupid humans realy are.

There have always been "alternative" currencies, and always will be. Even if you only count frequent flyer miles or World of Warcraft money, there will always be things people trade with other than the dominant currency.
