I was so upset when I finally saw this thread and they were already sold out.

At least I was able to get 8 of the 5850's Smiley

You guys are sick  Wink Shocked
Oh noes!  A 5870 factory exploded in my house!!
If those are going to be running in your house and not a datacenter, that place will be a sauna Grin I hope you have the wiring all up to spec! Cool
It's 9.4 degrees Fahrenheit here (-12.55C) right now.  It's actually much warmer than it usually is this time of year.  I already have 13,200 watts running in the house and it's being cooled by 2 window box fans at their lowest settings.  How outrageous is that?  I have to turn one of the fans up a notch during the day though.  Needless to say, I'll hit a power limit before a thermal one.  I've built sub-panels myself to feed the rigs.  Each are back-fed with 20A breakers for each 2 plug outlet.  The first panel has been running for 4 months and hasn't burned down, so power should be good to go.   Grin

After this though, I'll be using up two full 50A breakers (at 240V) for the sub-panels.  ...much further than this and I wont be able to turn the dryer and oven on at the same time.   Lips sealed  I'll have to look at adding another service.    Wink

I have 3 extra sitting in my DC i'll let go if anyone is interested. They are great for running 5x5870 with extenders. My 5x5870 rig is doing 2175Mh/s.

There's nothing wrong with the 101 BIOS as long as the chip is stable.  If it's running a 101 BIOS and is completely stable under load, you've got a very good chip.  If you need the 107 BIOS, I can send it your way.  I'm sure it's on TechPowerUp somewhere too.

$250 sounds like a little much...?

I can either start mining with it right away and keep it or sell for $250 unused which will allow me to buy another one.

But, if I sell I will have to wait for shipping and will miss out on the profits I could have generated in that time.

And, it would be at least a good week before I would receive a new one that I bought online (if I can even find one at the same price, free shipping is nice).

He doesn't have to buy it if he doesn't want to.   Shipping to Brazil via USPS priority mail was about $44 when I checked.  Then, factor in the cost of gas for driving to and from the post office, and the actual amount of time doing it (which is valuable to me in its own right), and I only stand to make about $20-55 off the thing, depending on how you look at it.

Offer is on the table, and it is within the price range that he proposed.

After that last run of refurbished cards, we're lucky to get them at $180-200 ourselves   Undecided

Mmm... Okay...

If you guys pay ~180-200 bucks for each 5870, can you sell it to me for ~210-250 and send it to me as a gift?!

Can somebody make business with me?! Ples..Ples...Pleeease... ^^

Thanks!
Thiago

Thiago.  I may be able to do one for $250 USD in BTC shipped from the USA, if you're interested.

I bought it from the link in the OP (bensoutlet) and it was shipped from onesaleaday.    I only took it out of the box to examine it and have not used it at all.  If you are interested, I can post a picture with my name written on a piece of paper next to the card.

I have two positive feedback reviews in the honest-traders section for selling gemstones to buyers in California and Canada.

Hope this helps someone.  If you need the newer BIOS version for a card, just send me a PM.
What version do you have? I have 107 from techpowerup, but I have no way of knowing whether that is the latest or how their numbering system works. I sent a ticket to AMD, but have heard nothing back (as expected, sadly).
107 is what came with most of my cards.  101 was what was on the unstable card.  The fixed card has been mining stable now for about 12 hours (like a boss).

Ah ha. I also noticed one of my cards being about 5-10 degrees hotter than the others, so I whipped out a BIOS editor and took a look. Not only did that one card have a different checksum then the other 3 that I looked at, it also had previously had its BIOS replaced with a modded one, according to the tool I was using.
Speaking of this...  I had to update a BIOS today too.  One of the cards that I received ended up not being stable.  It would boot, but as soon as the miner started, the machine would hang.  I hooked up video and ran an OpenGL screensaver.  There were artifacts.

It turns out that AMD changed the stock voltage on the 5870s after bios revision 003 (I think it's 003).  It went from 1.1625 to 1.175.  On this card, they de-soldered/re-soldered the GPU (I could see the light haze from the flux and the chip had been written on).  This chip probably didn't "bin" as well as the original chip that was on it.  Since they left the lower voltage BIOS on there, it was unstable.  Flashed the BIOS to 1.175 and everything is fine now.

Hope this helps someone.  If you need the newer BIOS version for a card, just send me a PM.

Yeah...  up to 32 x 6970s, 20 x 5870s, 6 x 5970s.  Started expanding into the garage (which is where the other 40 will go).

Insanity.  If someone would have told me I'd be doing this 6 months ago, I would have said they were crazy.

I envy you... Here in Brazil, each 5870 costs U$350,00. The most simple model!

I must send mails to Japan (mojostech - 5870) to try to get one as gift for U$250,00 and wait a month before start mining... And it is too risk because my country is a huge shit, at customs authorities and at all.

There is only two things that I like in Brazil, regular people (friends / family / womens) and the nature...

Please, if someone in U.S. could buy/send one 5870 to me, I pay U$180.00~U$200.00, if you can send it to me as a gift.

I could buy at least one 5870 every 15 days.

I can pay with Bitcoins! Of course!  Wink

Cheers,
Thiago

Actually, because I ordered so many, they called me to confirm each order (and made me fill out a credit card authorization form).  While I was on the phone to confirm the order of the initial 32 cards, they said that they had just a little over 120 left.  The next day, the price on their website went to 171 and a few hours later they were out of stock.  They went quickly...  I planned on ordering some more.  Sad

The metallic sticker with the date on it is the date it was refurbished.  Out of 16 cards, I had one that was improperly refurbished.  When I first saw the card temp (at idle), it was a bit higher than the other card (even though it was in the 2nd slot and could breathe better).  I didn't notice that the fan speed was much higher than the other card though.

As soon as I started a miner, I watched the temp rise *much* more quickly than the other card in the machine.  I thought the fan was dead or something.  After listening to the fan quickly ramp up and the temperature keep climbing past 75c (even though the fan had crept up to 70%), I shut it down.  I disassembled the card and quickly saw why this was happening:

They're refurbished cards (I have 16 of them).  They were posted on 1saleaday and they didn't sell them all.  Afterward, they were posted on BensOutlet (same owner?) but the cards shipped from 1saleaday regardless.

Yeah.  See how the diamond shaped "cutout" in the top heatsink has perfectly straight edges and is aligned properly?  The bottom cutout looks like someone grabbed a razor and just eyeballed it.  It's hard to tell in the image, but it's even slightly rotated.  The top heatsink was also from one of refurbished 5870s (from the same batch), but it was actually assembled correctly.

I took some sandpaper to the heatsink, removed the coating, sanded again with finer paper, and reassembled both cards with diamond thermal paste.  These cards went into my daily use machine (which mines when I'm not using it).  With the fans left on auto, they both sit around only 31 and 32 percent fan speed while mining (at 79 degrees C).  Considering that they're Bitcoin mining, they're very quiet.

Thumbs up for cheap cards though   Grin

Yep they were, and I was thinking the same - probably not manufactured this recently, so perhaps it means refurb. Anyways, I have 4 of them running now, giving me 1700 Mhash/s (very slight OC to 950). Waiting for PCIe extenders and other bits to get the other 3 running.

I was thinking refurb too, but then again I think they keep a small lot of parts on hand to handle warranty claims.  Maybe these were just the remaining reserves?
I suppose that would make sense too.

Are the stickers small round silver stickers with black print on them?  If so, I saw a guy selling a 5850 locally that had a similar sticker.  I didn't know they were making 58XXs as recently as two months ago.  I wonder if they were just getting rid of remaining stock or if they're actually refurbs.

I got mine today, all 7 of them. Came in OEM boxes (no accessories), in shipping bags marked with 1saleaday.com  Grin
All appear to be brand new, as advertised. Only issue with 2 of them were bent brackets, but that was easily fixed with pliers.
They don't *look* like refurbs, because there is no dust at all and no smudging and so forth, but I am not sure if there is any other way to tell.
There are stickers on them marked with what appears to be a manufacturing date or something - they are marked Nov. 2011, so perhaps that means refurb? Dunno.

Anyways, good product at a steal of a price.

want has but shipping fail...

ill be going to bkk soon to find out the prices
I had a look last week at Pantip and mostly what I saw was 6770/6850 and similar cards for rather high prices. Anything faster is way, way over priced. In the past I've always imported cards myself from NewEgg or eBay sometimes. The shipping hurts but not as much as lack of competitiveness in the market here. Though, this may be a great place to sell off used cards as locals don't seem to mind paying like new prices for used stuff Smiley

Anyway, it's quite hard to find 58xx cards here.

Who/what is "Ben's Outlet"??

Anyone have experience with them?

Friend of mine here at work sent me the link since he knows I'm into ATI cards.  He said that he's bought products off BensOutlet.com before without problems, unless you count taking longer than expected to arrive as a real problem.

You wouldn't wait for the 7 series? they are just around the corner and supposedly cut power consumption by a wide margin. That is... if you are paying for electric.

From the initial findings, the answer is no.  58XX is still king:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/radeon-hd-7970-benchmark-tahiti-gcn,review-32344-14.html

HD7970: 414 Mh/s @ 254 W
HD5870: 375 Mh/s @ 190 W

Straight out of the box w/o overclocking.

and they didn't even do the 5970, which would blow both of them away for power/Mh

sweet.  picked up 5 for another 2G rig!
You wouldn't wait for the 7 series? they are just around the corner and supposedly cut power consumption by a wide margin. That is... if you are paying for electric.

I am paying for electric, but any shiny new ati card like that will be well over 500 buck, for maybe 450Mhash?

I can get 3 5870's for that price and get 1200Mhsh
