the usual thing will happen i presume, for the first period of life of open bazar only true bitcoin nerd will use it the rest will remain with ebay and amazon

then if open bazar will do well and will not seen only as a new version of silkroad, the masses will start to accept it, which mean more usage of bitcoin

i see it as a good launch pad, for increase the bitcoin value

Pretty much spot on Amph, OpenBazaar is very good for the future of bitcoin. It's a concept we've been crying out for, somewhere that bitcoin can buy pretty much anything. The likeliness & comparisons with ebay are not far from the truth.

I'll probably be a bit of a voyeur when OpenBazaar opens, biding my time until it irons out any teething probkems then I'm diving in Grin

I hope Amazon has one eye on it & in the future integrates bitcoin into its systems, that'd finally mean 'moon time'.

Well, it will bring more demand for people using bitcoin. It wont bring less. Even if it is not that many more it can only increase user usage.

I think it will be a little bit cool. It will be a little bit "out there". I can see people wanting to give it a try and if it competes on price then adoption will move to a new level as we approach filling up the 1mb block limit. When that happens, people will look to the devs for a solution and then pop goes the latest bubble when the news strikes that Mike Hearn has been arrested for the murder of Vladimir as police interrupt Mike trying to defecate on Vladimir's already lifeless body. Mike is then dragged to a police car through a flurry of journalists and heard to be saying, "he wouldn't bloody do anything. He just made me so mad".

Well.... something crazy has to happen. This is history.

One thing to think about is having a good solid marketing plan. You can easily tell "unhappy eBay users" that this service exists, but how do you convince them that buying and selling things using purely Bitcoin is a good idea?

You guys should be more optimist Shocked why you keep speaking about Darknet & Silk road and those stuff . Open Bazaar Founder said we will be fine means we will be fine , we should trust him on this . OpenBazaar founder: We aren't the next Silk Road

Number of OpenBazaar users will definitly won't be same as Amazon or Ebay but it would be a lot , they will increase by the time (when Bitcoin users increase , OpenBazaar increase too)

I think it will take a good 1 to 3 years to see considerable amount of people migrating from inferior platforms such as ebay to stuff such as OpenBazaar. It will need fine-tuning first and as you said it will mostly consist on BTC visionaries using it at first.

Good thing they're finally going live with a final version. We should try and switch to there from eBay as much as possible... At least while they don't accept Bitcoin. Which seems like they won't ever accept it Wink

every bitcoin user will be somewhat happy when something like OpenBazaar starts working. because even one place to spend bitcoin is a great thing for bitcoin popularity.
but i guess OpenBazaar needs to start the operation first and works for at least a couple of months to become popular and be able to compete with its counterparts like Ebay. also the time will solve the problem of people thinking it is like silk road.

I am not sure there are that many 'unhappy' ebay users to grow into user base of Openbazaar. To be honest I think we need only ebay acceptance of BTC transactions.
As I am afraid OpenBazaar will be seen as 'lite' version of black market by many people.

OB1, a company of OpenBazaar core developers, has announced that the online p2p marketplace and distributed network of buyers and sellers that allows users to sell products directly for bitcoin will be launched this November.

"With the US$1 million investment led by Andreessen Horowitz and Union Square Ventures, the Open Bazaar development team has focused developing the core platform and planning out the project’s roadmap. Additionally, all core developers have left their previous jobs to dedicate themselves to the project full time."

How come that it's "investement" while they won't get their money back ? isn't OpenBazaar totally free and there is no fees ? (only normal BTC transaction fees)

Do we have any happy Ebay users around the forums or you are all unhappy ? Shocked
