Even considering Bitcoin and cryptocurrency become more popular in last 3 years, i have doubt they'll make comeback even if  unless they don't improve UI/UX of their software. I remember merchant have to keep their computer/server online all the time (to make their goods searchable by user) and user need to install software which is a bit resource demanding where search took some time.

Agreed, also part of the reason of low activity in Openbazaar might be because much of the holders did not buy bitcoin to spend, they bought it to hold as an investment. There might be some of them who might try it to buy something occassionaly, however, they might also not use it as their first choice of currency for shopping much of the time.

I did not know about this market before, but when I searched a little on the net, I was surprised that Wikipedia describes it as DarkMarket.
This is unfortunate because they still think that everything Bitcoin and cryptocurrency is all about is the DarkMarket.

OpenBazaar is an open source project developing a protocol for e-commerce transactions in a fully decentralized marketplace.[2] It uses cryptocurrencies as medium of exchange and was inspired by a hackathon project called DarkMarket.

You misunderstood  Cheesy

Wikipedia was only stating the name of the project OpenBazaar was based on -- the project was named/called "DarkMarket". The word wasn't used as a form of description.

I recommend reading this bit in the history page:

Quote
Amir Taaki and a group of programmers from Bitcoin startup Airbitz created a decentralized marketplace prototype, called "DarkMarket", in April 2014 at a Bitcoin Hackathon in Toronto. DarkMarket was developed as a proof of concept in response to the seizure of the darknet market Silk Road in October 2013. Taaki compared DarkMarket's improvements on Silk Road to BitTorrent's improvements on Napster.

After the hackathon, the original creators abandoned the prototype and it was later adopted and rebranded to OpenBazaar by a new team of developers. On April 4, 2016, OpenBazaar released their first version, which allowed users to buy and sell goods for Bitcoin.

Not sure how many of you were using OpenBazaar before it shut down a couple of years ago due to the lack of funding, but it looks like they are making a comeback[1][2].
This may sound weird, but I have mixed feelings about it... It's nice to see that they're trying to revive OB, but I really feel sorry for all of the developers who worked on "Mobezha [fork of OB (I prefer not to vouch)]" to keep its spirit alive.

Yeah, keeping the machine running was a big negative for the non tech people out there. Hopefully this time they either set something up that can allow others to host / mirror your store.
Or a plugin for something like Umbrel / MynodeBTC where you just click a button and it does the rest.

And having some other coins would be nice too.

Along with a UI that was not from the early 2000s

So, they do have a lot to do, but at least they are doing something.

i didn't know they shut down back in 2020. the adoption rate might work this time around. i have no idea how it work since the time i have installed openbazaar and tried searching no one was nearby.

they were just adopting BTC though. if they need more users to come join the market, i think they should also add more altcoins. there are users going to come when that's enabled.

I mean... I wish them every luck with 3.0 project, but I don't have high hopes for that becoming widely popular marketplace all of the sudden, than again I was wrong before about many things.
I think it will take some time after they lunch 3.0 project to gain popularity again, considering it was one of the famous decentralized online marketplace that use crypto. I'm excited to see what modifications their new site will bring, but for now it says openbazaar 3.0 - coming soon on a black screen.

Again?! Wasn't there similar attempt already with OpenBazaar 2.0?
-snip-

Yes, they needed 100K $ and some anonymous donor[1] gave them money but it wasn't enough, they still needed donations for 2021.

And if you go to https://openbazaar.org/ you get a black screen with the text openbazaar 3.0 - coming soon
So it looks like it's coming back.

I sold a few things on it back in the day, bought 1 or 2 things too just to play. It just never got that much traction for some reason.
With crypto becoming more mainstream it will probably do better this time, or at least we can hope.
