forget any exchange for storing more then 500$! and web wallet !!!

use elctrum or some desktop/mobile version, I switched to electrum desktop wallet and I am happy, just have a new clean system install it, write 13 secret words on few papers and store them, don`t install anything on PC/mobile that can be a threat! use it just for wallet, or buy some hardware one, you will be 99.99999999999999% safe

Use exchange only for a quick trade and know while you BTC/$$ is there it is in risk!!!! never forget that

hey you, yeah you, fuck you!!!
I'm late i know but i have literally been with coinbase just a few weeks and it's only just come to my attention that they have leaked members real names/email addresses. I came across a partial list on another forum i just joined. The list is too long for me to look at to check if my info is in that list. Anyone have an opinion as to what i should do? Change wallet provider, just change email or both? (I dont have much in my wallet, what what i have got its took a couple weeks to gather using faucets) Cheers for any input!
I guess it's not too worried for cases leaking of address / name to a particular hand, you know that if you register on a site and that's site collapses then they can sell the data on the black market.

if this is happen to coinbase, i think coinbase will not give their respond because they will act like this is not happen and this is just an issue to their member to make them panic. but it will different if coinbase give their respond and make a conference or make a post on their website and they already fix this. i am sure that the member will not panic hm maybe a little of panic.

It is most likely real, but old leaked info from Coinbase. I've seen this attempt of selling old leaked info many times  before.
Usually seller advertise it as newly hacked data or new batch of leaked info - which is almost always false.

This is normal risk when you are using centralized service, your every piece of data can be obtained by hackers at some point.

I think I saw today someone selling some of the leaked emails from coinbase.

This is not fear to sell people's information and still coinbase hasn't made any response about this yet.

If you have found the list or any source that we can check if my email or my friends email has been leaked.

Can you provide the link where you see this person selling emails leaked by Coinbase ?
It will be really shameful from Coinbase if they did so, and damage their trust

I saw it here in this link https://www.dc801.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/coinbase-email-leak.txt

There are 2043 email with the name of each of them but comparing with millions of users that are registered this number is very small.

Here is the link that I was talking about $5 https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.15982185

Indeed you are correct it was from 2014 but that was only posted yesterday, and when i seen the post the person commenting it was from 2014 hadn't posted at the time i seen it. Sorry for the confusion guys. Still though it's really bad. Old news to some but new to me and i'm sure not everybody here will know about it. The partial list on that site is huge i can only imagine the actual size of the data that was leaked and "supposedly" sold? Does anyone believe it was actually sold? Looking into other wallets anyway to be on the safe side.  Undecided

that is what i thought.
as i said in my previous comment it is always a good idea to search it on google and find similar things about this. and another good thing about the link like this (i think it is wordpress) is that they have the date in the link like this .....uploads/2014/03/coinbase-email-leak.txt so you can easily see when it was posted.

and as for wallet, you should always turn into cold storage instead of an online (web or desktop) wallet.

Thank satoshi
Can anyone tell me how long this thing will take to fully install and sync? Bitcoin core? Its been at it for 3 hours now and only processed 211,000 blocks of the transaction history. still 3 and 1/2 years to go yet  Undecided any way to pause it?

Well, without syncing you can't send anything so you have to sync.  Closing core will stop the sync.  Also that 3 years will take around 50GB of your hardisk space and bandwidth.  If you change your mind about using bitcoin core, you use electrum or multibit HD instead as they're "light" clients that doesn't need to sync.

You should always be wary of exchanges/wallet providers' ability to safeguard your information. Use one email per service provider, use unique and strong passwords for each site and email, and avoid giving up your personal documents unless entirely necessary. If you need to give up your documents, thoroughly research who you are giving them to.

And don't use Coinbase for a wallet. Get Bitcoin Core: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcoin-core-version-0121-released-1437912

I advice you to avoid using the exchangers wallets like Coinbase, Xapo and so on. It not safe enough, better to use blockchain wallet or desktop wallet

Try blockchain.info and electrum like desktop/web wallets rather than coinbase as there are many complains of their users about coinbase banning their account as well as missing deposits. However safest place to hold bitcoin is paper wallet or hardware wallet.

where did you see this? you should include that link too.
with a quick search i can only find old articles and topics about coinbase leaking users email addresses and other personal information
like this from 2014: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/coinbase-users-real-names-and-email-addresses-leaked-553186
and coinbase response: http://blog.coinbase.com/post/81407694500/update-on-coinbase-data-security

and if the link you saw this today was on thebot[dot]net then if you look at the link or scroll down you see someone pointing out this is from 2014 .....uploads/2014/03/coinbase-email-leak.txt

nevertheless, stop using coinbase if you don't have to. try any of the desktop wallets.
