Private keys are pre generated by the manufacturer. Very crazy IMO. I think it is a shitful wallet.

Yeah, I agree that pre-generated private keys is crazy...
I can see scammers using this in their advantage.
I do agree that we need some easy wallet for masses, but not like this.

Also, whats up with this beta testing?
I tried to apply few times and It is simply NOT working.

Most probably this is worst way to go for spending your coins or may be loosing them in this case! In the world where people drive crazy due to money, how one can trust pre-loaded cards like that.

If you seriously want to do cold storage then why not just make an one time investment over ledger's so that you can store multiple currencies in single wallet itself.

Using those metal cards would be so difficult. I mean each time I need to load it, I will have to buy newer card. What's the ease of use here ?

I got one of these for free after attending an event in Shanghai where Bobby spoke.

People mentioned at the time about security issues with pre-rendered private keys, which were valid complaints that I hope have since been addressed by the company. I will say that it is beautifully made and would make a very nice way to gift someone a modest amount Bitcoin if security fears have been negated.

Brilliant thought. In any case, how might they guarantee us that this item is sheltered? We are discussing a card that has its unique location. While this is often incredible as an idea , we do not have the foggiest idea that these keys weren't duplicated.

That's the only reason why I would consider to buy that card but won't use it for the original purpose to store any coins on it, because of the above mentioned things...
The card is pretty cool looking but that's all, you can't stop the greed, if this card becomes widespread among people, sometime an employee of the company will realize how much bitcoins are loaded to the cards and their system is developed by humans, and humans are greedy... They will find a way to take some bitcoins, not all bitcoins of course, but that's the way life is...
So it will remain a fancy collectible thing for bitcoin lovers Smiley
Using it as a collectible is the only thing we can think for now, since we can't still determine if this is safe or not.
We can't guarantee bout its safety, there are a lot of questions to be answered and considered before we can guarantee that this is safe. Since passphrases are not auto-generated, it is already been coded in the card before its user can use it. It is possible for them to have a copy and that is really disturbing. It is a nice idea, only if it is only connected online to generate passphrase and not coded before even being handed to its users.

If I were to buy this product, I will also use it as a collectible because of how cool the product is.

Are there really people on this forum that think Bobby Lee would create a faulty product? How spotless does your reputation have to be in this industry? Seems like many people get all excited about things like bitconnect but then chastise the authentic core players who offer the market place real value.

Hardware and open source software solutions.
Hey  Cheesy

It look like the Ballet wallet is more like a ColdStorage wallet rather than an hardware one.
So yes, it can be compared to the ColdKey card.

But the Satochip card (Satochip.io) is really a hardware wallet.
Keys are generated and stored into the secure chip and never leaves it.
You can create multiple address and it support all the Bitcoin, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash features.

All these projects aim the same goal : easy crypto adoption.
The card form factor is really cool and people like it because they use such cards everyday !

I think the Satochip Shop will be open this week Smiley Just for your information...

I have been going through the discussions from the start, but I believe this is more of a collectible card rather than using it as a wallet in larger masses. If it was to be a wallet, it could have been made without any number limitations like Ledger Nano. People not trusting on pre-funded coins should also have a read on crypto collectibles as well. There are 10-100 BTC pre-funded Casascius coins out there without being peeled and neither of these casascius coins have been a problem for any of the collectors AFAIK. The collectible market is little expensive at times with a 1 BTC first day funded Cas coin going for 6 BTC (approx) and a Kialara Moon suite going for over 3 BTC in auctions.

I am not against any of the tech experts bad thoughts on physical ballet cards and physical bitcoins as a whole but they are one of the section to be explored for sure if someone is present in the cryptocurrency space. Though if I order/buy one in future I would never use this as a wallet, but it would be very much better to have it as a collectible good. At times, my thought is that it's far better to invest in  crypto collectibles instead of highly volatile bitcoin. I never use bitcoin as a investment thingy but as a currency for global transactions. Cryptocurrency collectibles increase in prices over time and are not related to the bitcoin prices which will be very helpful during massive volatilities.  Wink

I don't trust wallet of this kind.
Its pure junk, its for someone who does not understand Bitcoin.
Never ever re-use same address, stay private.

+1
Usefull to have differents wallets for small amounts & pretty hot collectibles.

The holder of a Ballet REAL Wallet is the only one who has the private key.
-Don't you think that sophisticated counterfeiting is another large risk for these pre generated key wallets ?
The package and website have detailed instructions in bold lettering for what the user needs to do to verify the authenticity of the wallet.

~To be fair this isn't 100% terrible, I very foolishly bought something similar from Bitswiss, and put a few bitcoin on it, they stayed for years and never went anywhere. They were legit and they even switched their focus and stopped selling wallets. Now this company, I don't know and would I do it again like that? No. I'd want to generate my own Private key and have some sort of scratch off sticker included.

but it IS 100% terrible!
unless you are only using the card for its looks and not putting any coins in it, i don't recommend it to my worst enemy. you are putting all your trust into a company that you don't even know and is brand new with 0 history. if one company in the past hadn't scammed you it doesn't make the whole idea a good one. and it is not just about them scamming you, maybe they were shitty and generated a wrong key, encrypted it wrong,... and after you scratch things off you won't be able to claim back your money!
Good lord, i thought i was the only one who shared this thought. Damn, their wallet is pretty cute but has low level of security. So basically all that any thief has to do is to steal the card from you and he/she can have access to your funds because we have both the private key and its passphrase all on the wallet. OMG, this is terrible, i was thinking they would at least make users choose their own passphrase which in this case will serve like a pin to a normal crypto mobile wallet.

There is trust involved in ALL wallets unless you created your own with a set of dice, PERIOD.  Trezor and Ledger could have backdoors in the software.... no matter what, there is a trust factor.  Based on ZERO issues with BTCC (Bobby's original company in the space) being compromised, I would trust that the proper precautions were taken to keep your crypto safe with this new project.  Besides, this is targeted to new people to the space.  It gives them an EASY way to HODL their crypto.  I like that Bobby is trying to push the space forward.  Seeing the complaints about this comes from WELL VERSED crypto people and it's unfair.  To the complainers/haters...... I'd like to see a better idea for newbies based on no trust if you have one......

I see, there are cryptos allotted for each card, why not buy a real thing like ledger or trezor? Since it cost around $99 for the gold plated one, ledger is quite much cheaper and yet, you can store thousands of crypto, plus, you have your own private key? I think companies now are over-exaggerating things to create elegant designs but with limited functionality. Though, if you are rich enough and want to collect wallet cards, in your actual physical wallet, then there's no reason not to try it.

I am not saying that the CEO of the company is planning to rob its clients. But a dishonest employee, for example. There are too many possible leaks with a pre generated private key. There is no reason to PAY to be exposed to get risk.

Or, CEO (I don't know if he really wants to scam or not but why not... crypto is about you don't trust anyone...) will just help an employee to copy the keys and they will share the bitcoins in the end...

This Ballet card looks so slick, like a Black Card or something. The aesthetic is probably pretty attractive to mainstream folks, coming from the age of credit cards.

It's a damn shame because this is all going to end in tears.

I hate watching the industry move backwards. This "cold storage with third party generated keys" model reminds of me of Binance's "DEX" where you "hold your own private keys" to tokenized assets on a permissioned blockchain. Roll Eyes

Smiley Hi everyone,

Question:
"Bobbyclee just watched your BalletCrypto video (youtube.com/watch?v=jxP2KIdn_FQ), cool concept,
in the video you explained that the private key and BIP38 passphrase are never known by the same people,
if that is true how do you derive the public key?"That’s precisely the beauty of #BIP38!"

Bobby Lee:
"Using that well proven industry standard, we are able to generate the proper deposit address without ever digitally
combining the encrypted private key with the decryption passphrase. It’s elliptic curve cryptography in BIP38, it’s magical."

you need to be crypto swag and follow the trend lol.

Yes, the keys are pre-generated but hey, in the earlier days when we discovered Bitcoin, weren't we using a web wallet and alike, a place where we needed to trust a company with our keys? Coinbase for example.

The product is new, the site too, but it has to start somewhere, they can't earn their reputation in 1 month. Everyone deserves a chance. I doubt B. Lee is going to scam people

I wouldn't use it to store my vault but you know, we all have different wallets for different purposes. For example, you can create a wallet that you only use for your shopping online, another to pay the escort girls and so on. You usually keep a minimum on it, just enough to pay 1 or 2 shots.
It's the type of card I would use as an alternative wallet for this.

I don't remember who talked about the price but I think the price is decent. If you compare with a similar website, ColdKey is at $35 and Satochip $25

uhm , how can you trust a hardware wallet with pregenerated keys that you can't change?
maybe I'm missing something but if you do not control the keys- you do not control the money as simple as it gets
and maybe this topic should be in some other thread  as well
while the idea of a solid material wallet that you can carry like a credit card sounds like fun , I picture cold wallets more of a "keep it safely home"
I'm sure they will be selling it allright, but I'm not going to be one of the customers for sure

Hi everyone,

From Jessie tg Ballet Admin t.me/BalletCrypto:

Question:
"How is the seed phrase on the card is generated? How can I be sure that nobody saw it while manufacturing?"

"Jessie, [14.09.19 12:58]
Hi. The short answer is the wallet passphrase is generated in an offline computer in USA while the encrypted private key is generated in China. No single factory worker or employee can come into contact with both info.

Jessie, [14.09.19 13:00]
We adopt industry first practice called 2-factor key generation. It’s actually a very complicated process that involves international shipping and manufacturing. To learn more about it, please visit www.balletcrypto.com/2FKG."

When viewed from the perspective of simplicity Ballet wallet certainly has its advantages, and may help to a greater adaptation of cryptocurrency. But on the other hand, it is not good to steer people in the wrong direction, stating that this is secure way of storing crypto.

We can say that Bobby Lee is an honest man and that he has good intentions, but he ignores the basic rule "Not your private keys, not your coins", and he can not be sure that someone will not abuse their position in the process of generating private keys.

Simplicity of using cryptocurrency is key for mass adoption, but safety must come first.

I agree about the generation of keys, it does make it sound suspicious. Even if the company's CEO is not trying to scam people, it could lead to a potential security breach, I guess. And how is this wallet unique, why is it the first multi-currency wallet? Nano Ledger supports 25 cryptocurrencies, and it's also offline. Plus, it already has a good reputation, it's very famous and considered one of the best wallets out there. And there are Crypto debit cards (though not issued by Ledger). Why is this weird form of the wallet being a card good? It makes it very visible that it's a Bitcoin wallet (on the photo, at least) which may attract the thieves, for instance.

I doubt Bobby Lee is out to scam anyone -- doesn't mean I trust his company to generate my keys. Cheesy

It's such a silly model. What if the key generation process is compromised? It's a glorified paper wallet so best case scenario, you've got a $40 paper weight. Worst case scenario, your bitcoins are gone. Not to mention if it's ever physically compromised, it's incredibly easy for someone to recover your bitcoins.

Too much emphasis on ease of use at the cost of security is bad for the ecosystem.

So, is this like an metal plated paper wallet? Honestly, it isn't very clear on your website. I suggest that you put a clear step-by-step on how your product works in the first page.

Something like:

1. You buy the wallet.
2. You do X.
3. Your coins are stored in Y.
4. Then you can spend by doing Z.

Everything isn't very user friendly at the moment (IMO).

Private keys are pre generated by the manufacturer. Very crazy IMO. I think it is a shitful wallet. OP shouldn't have rush to buy it, before he reads what is it all about...
You will receive a wallet with a pre generated private key, trusting that the manufacturer don't have them.

To be fair this isn't 100% terrible, I very foolishly bought
something similar from Bitswiss, and put a few bitcoin on it, they stayed for years and never went anywhere. They were legit and they even switched their focus and stopped selling wallets. Now this company, I don't know and would I do it again like that? No. I'd want to generate my own Private key and have some sort of scratch off sticker included.

I like the idea but it's clearly not safe.
Perhaps safe preloaded papers could work a bit like multisignature wallet. Other part of the card keys could be generated within the buyers computers when they receive the card. I guess it can be done safely with only the owners having access to the real keys?

There is trouble abrewing
this method of creating a wallet only works for collectibles not an actual wallet. with a collectible the focus is mostly on uniqueness of the design and its looks so the security might not be the priority there.

for a wallet, to actually store funds and be secure the only way this could work is if they gave the option to the user to send them an encrypted key for them to print and then stick that scratchable on top of it. that simply eliminates any chance of them scamming anyone (unless user chooses 123 as their pass!)

Ia agree with you here also.

Sometimes we think a wallet as a place to keep our whole life savings, but we don't need only that kind of wallet.

Maybe this wallet can be good for small amounts of Bitcoin...

I only hope this doesn't get too popular and people start losing funds, like blockchain.info

The problem I see, is that Bitcoin brand is already related to so many scammers, low security wallets and exchanges and so on. This all is bad for adoption. But this may not be case, and this wallet may deserve a shot. Let see what they are up to.

This doesn't make using them a good idea. It's up for every individual to trust these type of services/web wallets (I personally wouldn't). I honestly think that there are better and more trusted products, but I understand what you are saying. After all, weren't Casascius coins generated by a third-party and aren't they still being traded today without any worrying about the coins being withdrawn?

The product is new, the site too, but it has to start somewhere, they can't earn their reputation in 1 month. Everyone deserves a chance. I doubt B. Lee is going to scam people
Maybe... but I'm not calling them a scam, just questioning how their wallet works. Their website weren't exactly very clear.

But it's only a card with a wallet printed on it. I questioned the price because if you are looking for a hardware wallet, there could be better options for a little bit more - with real security, no third parties and while being a reusable wallet. If you're looking for a collectible or a cool "paper wallet", then it's obviously fine to pay something like this for a good looking BTC card.

I'm not attacking the product, just asking for some clarification and sharing some thoughts.

There is nothing revolutionary about this card, if you like this type of "hardware wallets" then check KeyWallet Touch, it seems a little more advanced and secure then Ballet.

In addition, not to mention that from a collector's point of view, these cards are ultra sexy.

I can somewhat agree with this, collectors do not look so much at functionality (security in this case), but on some other things.

This will be a great wallet for those who do not know how important is to be only person who have access to your private keys.

people who think this way should use custodial wallets such as Coinbase that are at least from a well known and old company. note that i am not denying the risks and stupidity of this method but i am pointing out that if people want easiness then there are better options than a newly created company from a person with a bad history of scams!

ofcourse there is 100% risk of the company keeping a copy of the private keys. but do you know whats also a risk?
the private key being so easy to find on the same 'device' as the public key.

imagine a credit card which you marker pen your pin number to. see the stupidity of that action when someone pickpockets your credit card.

a good hardware wallet is not where the private key is stored with the public key. especially if all is required is a fingernail scratch to reveal it.

also the card seems expensive for something that only has one address
such a high price for something that means as soon as you want to spend just some of the funds it becomes useless.

and if i was to knit pick even more. im still laughing at the very old adoption of the word 'wallet'. when all the thing does is store keys(thus should be defined as a keyring).. and more specifically this card should be defined as a vault or something else that describes a single use item

This will be a great wallet for those who do not know how important is to be only person who have access to your private keys. We discuss security of Trezor&Ledger almost every day, and now someone is selling "hardware wallet" with pre-generated private keys and it is saying "Trust me, I will never make copy of your private keys".

There is almost no difference in keeping coins on some exchange or in this wallet, in both case user is share his coins with manufacturer / exchange owner. Besides of all the disadvantages even price is not something we can consider cheap, if compared with real hardware wallets.

Thanks. I missed that discussion.

Would be great if OP (which I'm not sure if it's related to the "Ballet" wallet) could answer some of these user's concerns - mainly stuff like this[1]. But this does look like just a cool "paper" wallet generated and made by a third-party. And considering that the cheapest one costs $35, I don't really see the advantages of using that over an true hardware wallet or just a real paper wallet.
